Hello Vera, I am a new subscriber to your channel. I am a married 65 year old with no children who has always collected things. The "Way" that I follow is the way of my Savior, Jesus Christ. But at the same time, I keep finding aspects of Eastern thought very appealing and enriching to my life. The calming energy of Feng shui, the honor in Bushido, the discipline in karate. And this Wu Wei -- the water takes the path of least resistance, but also gradually erodes away everything that blocks it -- resonates with me also. Thanks for sharing and explaining it.

I’m with you on this. I follow Jesus as well, but I remember that Jesus is not “western” and is there for and loves all people around the globe. 💛

This is an important video and one I know I'll return to time and again. I think similar ideas to Wu Wei can be found in different traditions around the world which I think testifies to some fundamental truth contained in it.
I'm so glad to hear someone express the connection between this idea and Minimalism because I too have felt that connection but couldn't quite express it. Minimalism opened my eyes to how I used to use possessions as a way of controlling my world. Letting go of that control by living more intentionally with less has definitely given me a greater ability to flow with life more. And I've found that when my activities and decisions are not forced, but more naturally go with the grain of things, there's a real peace that comes with that and a genuine reduction in anxiety.
I love what you said about letting go of the result and focusing on the process. As a perfectionist this is an important thing for me to keep in mind. An interesting paradox that comes to mind for me however is in regards to Japanese craftmanship or arts such as Sado/Chado etc, in which focusing on the the details of the process is valued and taught and yet this often leads to quite perfect results!

    Thank you for the video.
Something that resonated with me is that forcing something isn't always a good idea.
I graduated from college with a degree in writing, so I was looking for copywriting jobs. I applied to one in Atlanta (or a suburb of it) at a higher education marketing place, and I received an in-person interview / skills test. They gave me three assignments of what I might be writing about and have me several hours to create the content.
I was doing what I thought I wanted to do professionally, but through that experience, I realized I did not want to do that as my full-time job.
Now, I work at a local university library, where I don't have to be going going going all the time. I sit at the circulation desk and attend to students as they come up, either to check a book out, buy a testing form, or ask questions. There are busy times (like finals week), but usually it is SO chill/quiet. It is exactly where I need to be at this point in my life.
I did a good job at the interview (didn't self-sabotage as far as I know), but I was so relieved when they didn't offer me the position.
Thank you for the moment of self-reflection Vera! Have a fantastic day. ❤️

Ive read lots about Taoism lately and yes it fits really well with minimalism. Be like water great video and you explained it very well. What you are describing is what they say about how we should live in the Yin (female side) that is associated with rest, mindfulness etc and only visit the Yang, being busy, working etc now and again. They say we spend way to much time in the Yang.

I think about go with the flow when you talk in this video. Sometimes you find flow in everything in life, and then it feels wonderful. I try to, even in small things. Like if I feel like going one way home, and not the other, I do... even if it is longer. And if I feel like I need to rest now, I need to do it and not force myself right then. I go more with the rytmn of the body during the day. If I feel more energy; then I do some tasks for some minutes. Thank you for your lovely channel!

This is one of your most beautiful videos! I had that book when it originally came out. Our modern hustle culture and constant striving is exhausting to the human spirit. In my "hippie" days, decades ago, we said "go with the flow." Our lives are made up of moments, and by being in the moment, we are not missing out by focusing only on the future and a result. Lovely!

Thank you, Vera, for covering this concept of Taoism. It was very informative and understandable. I am a big fan of Eastern Philosophy, and I loved how you explained the essence of the subject. Effortless action is easy to grasp intellectually but very difficult to practice in daily life I believe due to our western upbringing of hard work. I appreciate you bringing this subject to my attention again and I will definitely focus again on "Letting go with both hands ".

Dank weer!

I am so like you Vera, and I lean towards being a perfectionist, which leads to undue stress and anxiety. I often feel the need to make things happen. I need to learn to "go with the flow" and not force things. For those of us with anxiety issues, control goes hand in hand, because there is a sense of peace that comes with controlling and ensuring everything goes according to our expectations of how things should be! How lovely it would be to not bear that burden for our whole life span!!

    • @SimpleHappyZen

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts Tami :) For me, it's been very helpful to do some soul searching and think about where my fears and anxieties are coming from, why I feel the need to make sure everything goes 'right'. Wish mindful living, minimilism, alternative way of living came popular earlier. I think most of us don't feel free in our daily living and mist of us live on auto pilot. I have been living on autopilot si many years. It is very difficult to life mindful in this world. I really try to have thise mindful moments in between, but I really struggle to live a mindful life in this crazy and demamding world. Like you said, when you are a perfectionist it is especially difficult cause you have a certain level or standard of work and it is most not possible to tell yourself that good is also good enough.
Thank you for all your valuable lessons and all the research that goes into it!!

Great video Vera! I’d never heard of this, and I’m not sure I understand it completely. Probably because I have a tendency to push to make things happen quicker, which is not always a good idea. The herb garden image feels like me sometimes 😂. On the other hand, when a situation feels wrong I can easily walk away, so I guess I just need to be more aware when I push for northing.

I love this type of video! Wu wei is such a mysterious intangible concept to me. It is hard for me to find how to use this practically in everyday life as i am always trying to be busy and in control. To force things is to not trust that the universe is working with you. It is to think everything you do has to be forced. I think its possible that the dreams and visions we desire can come from us but the effort is a co-effort with you and the universe(for lack of a better word) helping you. It's important to have an open and trusting relationship, a knowing that things will always work out for your highest best.

So, there is this 'not finished' statue of Wilhelmina in that park between where you last stayed in Rotterdam and the shipping channel. I think about that statue often. I think you did a pretty good job of explaining Wu Wei. The concept is almost too simple to explain.😃

    • @SimpleHappyZen
      @SimpleHappyZen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Ah thanks Robert! 😄 Happy to hear it. The words are hard to find, they make it sound more complicated than it needs to be. Also, I've never really paid much attention to that statue to be honest, but I will next time I'm there

    • @Robert-qm1ld

Love this video! Sometimes I can feel that there is a rythm in my body that (often) is a bit slower than I am living. When I recognize this I try to let go and lean in to it because it is still moving. I sometimes see the picture in my mind (don't know if this will make any sense to anyone else) that the difference is like hoovering with your bum just some cm over the sofa - it is thought work- compare to let yourself relax down a few cm into the sofa. It doesn't need to be a big change in distance (pace) but the difference in energy the 2 different poses take is huge.
Would be interesting if you would expand a bit on the subject and how it affects your live in practical ways. 😊
