Nice video, like all of yours! But, If you really want to save the environment you shouldnt travel at all. Stay at home, turn off the electric, heating, internet and walk around barefoot all day. I have been travelling all around the planet since 40 years and dont feel guilty, there are worse things in life going on! Happy travelling!

Great comment. Great mind at work. 40 years multiplied by all the other billions 'not feeling guilty'. Do you think there might have been a welcoming smiling mirage at work when you produced your foreign currency? You cannot travel without altering the very 'undiscovered' places you think you have found. By the way, see the intensive polluting fish farms in your 'wilderness' idyll shots. Can you spot them now?

Why do Americans feel compelled to judge any country they visit. I mean that America is such a great place (cynical) . Thailand has a national healthcare system. When was the last mass shooting in Thailand? There are more homeless in California than Bangkok. Your comments are mainly valid, but stop judging another country against you personal Merican standards.

Thanks for great feedback from American people for my country. I admit that my country is not perfect , still have a lot of problems for improvement.
As i have been visit many civilize country like USA , England , Japan Korea etc. i found out that Japan is the best for cleanness and pollution management but the dark side in Japan is, most of Japanness people are stress and missing of smiling
I also have been visit USA and found out that there were a huge pollution as well. Especially , big city like NY , CA . Also there was a lot of homeless, garbage, drugs and crime and racism as well.
I recommend both of you to visit new guinea or Amazon rainforest countries group. I think that both of you may so happiness over there.

So true. Thailand is not perfect but we are happy in our imperfect country and people are a lot happier than the Americans. They'd better try to clean up their own backyard! Wondering if they walked to Thailand. Flying caused a lot of pollution too. Good report should have a clear balance both good and bad not heavily focus on the negatives. Albeit they may be true, no one wants to hear that constantly. Needless to say, I was not too impressed!

Bangkok is my favorite place in the entire world. You can literally find everything there - cheap 5*hotels, affordable shopping the best street food amazing nightlife...well is super crowded but...look at London Paris NY or any other capital...Pollution in Bangkok is higt but not even comparable to any of Indian, or Chinese cities(Bangkok has 474 position in the list)🤷‍♀️ problem with plastic is unfortunately a global issue...not just there😣

Since 2019 all convenient store didn’t give you plastic back anymore. For pollution air in Bkk usually occurs during Jan-Feb of each year because during this the air was stilled ,not much wind. The government solve this problem by construction of more sky train and underground,so people or travelers can use these transportation instead of the car ,they knew that the problems of air pollution came from Diesel engines vehicle. The government has promoted peoples to use electric car,and for water pollution,it’s in the responsibilities of Bangkok metropolitan.I think the government knew all these problems and we were going to make everything to the western standards as we ever did it for a longtime. In the near future since we have a huge project to development eastern economic corridor ,this area is about 150 km east of bkk,so it will decrease the population and traffic in bkk.we will have a huge size of airport and seaports overthere, the airport could bear 120 million travelers each year. Hopefully this information will satisfying you and the rest.

I agree with some comments that they should not travel in the first place, travelling by air planes create huge pulltion to our world. I cannot imagine which country should satify as your ideal place!
You just wonder your reasons - plastic bag and bottles ? anywhere people dont use it? Best way to mention is how we live with. Flooding! common, it does not flood every day. Every part of the world suffers from global warming! Do the US cities not having such disasters from global warming? Income disparity, you can bring any economic issue to every country. If you did not visit Bangkok, it can improve the income distribution in Thailand? All in all, I found that your reasons are somewhat arbitrary! This video is a pretty messy and quite click-baity? Like, coming to a developing country, you should realize the living conditions isn’t going to be at the same level as a developed country. The important thing is to LEARN and see how the locals persevere in face of hardship. Some of these takes are just plain silly. You shouldn’t visit Bangkok because... they sell shark fins in Chinatown? There’s a lot of tourists and traffic jams? Just what?
Bangkok is the center of... quite literally everything in Thailand. It’s the face of modern Thailand and lifestyle, as well as the old traditions and culture. So much history of Thailand is concentrated in Bangkok. If your goal of coming to this country is to at least learn more about the culture, then skipping Bangkok is just absurd.
Chilling amongst nature may be nice, but you can do that anywhere. If you want to learn about the people and the history of the country, then skipping the largest and most culturally important city in the country is very silly.
And also, tap-water is drinkable, and it has been tested by a global organization. People just don’t like the taste of unfiltered water.

I agreed with some of your points, but over-fishing I'm not sure if that's true because the majority of marine species consumed as food in Bangkok are farm-raised or raised offshore in a net placed around an open water (of course except for sharks). Also, right now the government is working on lowering the fares on SkyTrains and MRTs for everyone; so you can expect lower fares next year. BTW, Thailand is a touristy country and a lot of local communities in Bangkok (and many other parts of Thailand) rely heavily on tourism industry for their incomes and survivals. Without you guys and tourists and expats, Thailand's economy will be in a huge trouble! (now it is bad enough as it is). So, I would say go to Thailand and of course Bangkok, but be more environmentally friendly with what you do!

Hi, I just discovered your channel, and you guys are fun.
I found your channel because of homesickness, and wanted to feel close to my hometown again. As a Bangkokian, studying abroad in California, I totally understand you viewpoint. I also concern for a lot of problems in Bangkok, since my entire family live there. But I have to mention something to you. First of all, while some comments here are aggressive, some of them have a legitimate point to it.
My first specific point is about tourism and economy in general. Tourism, especially in Bangkok, which is the largest city in Thailand, takes up a huge share of Thai economy. The possible result of you say 'to not visit Bangkok' is a negatively effect to Thai economy as a whole. Which actually the negative effect from decreasing tourism is now happening as COVID-19 prevent tourist to enter Thailand, so now we are in a serious economic crisis. And if the economy is weak, the environmental issues will be far less of a priority, meaning if the country as a whole is poor, the environment will also be poorly preserve. Most of the developed country can *afford* to focus their attention to environmental issues, simply because they are well-off with their economy (even then a lot of bad practices still exist in those country).
Also, who are the most likely to positively contribute to the economy in a progressive way? The answer is the middle-class. Thailand have an increasing body of middle-class workers and small business owners, as it is now considered a high-income economy. But compare to the States, for example, it still insignificant. If there are no tourism in Thailand, the domestic consumption and other industries will not drive the economy. forward, and that's will be equally bad for Thailand. Especially, when you say to visit countryside instead, those money is less likely to be circulate in the broader Thai economy, but will stay in that area instead, which is not well equipped to develop themselves. And this is also another point, Thailand economy and also political system is far more centralized than that of the US or other country. While the decentralization is now increasing important social topic, Thailand still cannot develop in the same way as the US with each states having a strong socio-political autonomy. So, as I said, the money spent in Bangkok (or other larger city like Chiang Mai or Phuket) is far more likely to help the country and its economy as a whole.
(Also the countryside or "under-radar" area that you guys visited, specifically Koh Pha-Ngan, are actually a very touristy spot. Koh Pha-Ngan is actually a huge frat party island. Every month the island will be full of mostly Western tourists coming to the "Full-Moon Party", which I bet involved a lot of drugs, prostitution, and illicit enterprise, that will also not contribute into the legitimate economy.)
About preservation, I have to say that if you research more closely, you will find that Thailand have done a lot better job in recent year about environment. For example, Maya beach in Krabi province, where the 2000 movie "The Beach" was filmed, was fully closed to all public and tourist following a government concern for the surrounding environment, and it is now revived and got a lot of press attention last year. The plastic bag is also got phased out from a lot of big store, but I think it still prevalent which I agree is also a real problem.
A lot of things you guys said here about the environment is a real concern and I also share this concern. But to say something like 'don't visit Bangkok' is also didn't solve the issue that much, it may even be damaging instead.
For me the problem with this kind of standpoint and opinion of the "new generation" (the equivalent of the word "millennials" in Thai, with the similar socio-cultural connotation) of younger people, westerner and Thai alike, is that, while it come from a very good and helpful side, it also come from a lack of understanding of the complexity of each topic. I understand that you wanted to travel and helping the environment along the way. But I think that you need to take into account of every details and information. But ultimately, as I hate to be negative, there will always be a dilemma - a dilemma of the global economic and political system as a whole. Can the world with a capitalist system, be environmental friendly? I'm not sure, but as the countries in the world 'develop' along the western/capitalist model, the problem solving in a micro-level like this, I think, will produced a very little help. The problem is the system as a whole, and as we all benefit and function within the system, I think it is very hard to see a real change if we not address the system as a whole.
Sorry for a long comment, hope you read it.

But what's with corruption and mafia at rule in Thailand? Especially concerning the island Koh Nok with so many mysterious deaths of tourists.. I think the biggest problem in Thailand is the system and politics of the country, which is stressed on mafia/aristocracy/traditional outlook, and without operational police and strict laws..

@@SamuraiSx19 that's not to say they are "Thai" mafias. Thailand doesn't attract just good tourists and good investors, but evil people as well. Keep in mind that just because a crime happened in Thailand, doesn't mean a Thai person did it. It could very well have been committed by foreigners. I am Thai and I was born and raised in Bangkok. It's important to note that our city is not perfect in every aspect. We recognize that Thailand is a developing country, and we will always remain at this level forever. Considering ourselves a developed country would hinder further development progress. If your reasons determine which cities are worth visiting, then many cities around the world that face those same issues are probably also restricted zones that you shouldn't visit.
When traveling, do it to learn, not to show off and prove it.

Good news! Thai Govt. just issued an official ban on "plastic microbeads", effective from January 1, 2020.
No more cosmetics which contain "plastic microbeads" can be produced in or imported commercially into Thailand. (although you can still bring yours from overseas in your backpacks).

Convenience stores don't give out plastic bags, so you have to buy them or bring your own cloth bags. In fact, even your own country has problems. What about the problem of your capital city? It might even be more than Bangkok. I accept those criticisms. But your opinion is not neutral. At least people in Bangkok Still friendly, helping each other even though they don't know each other. You mentioned that Bangkok has heavy traffic. Having tourists come and use taxis will increase the amount of toxic fumes.
*******Toxic air affects everyone on the planet. We therefore have the BCG policy to adhere to the principles of economic development. In the past three years, there has been an increasing number of electric vehicle (EV) buyers in Thailand, as the country aims to become a hub for EV production in the region. We are making progress each year as we transition to cleaner technologies. We not only encourage foreign investors to invest in clean energy but also manufacture electric vehicles and batteries ourselves, including electric bikes, boats, ferries, buses, taxis, and tuk-tuks. These services are already operational and will continue to expand. Our electric train locomotives are also leading the development process and are currently undergoing trial runs. You can access information from the Eastern Economic Corridor of Thailand (EEC) so that you can get to know the BCG model.

Bangkok is an amazing city so go and visit it. you have so much amazing food everywhere, parks, museums, temples, views, buildings, etc... Nevertheless I agree that is not reccomedable to spend most of your time there.
About the traffic. I'm not sure how Bangkok is planning to deal with its traffic problems in the future but I don't think that not using taxies and buses as a tourist will help. A city which is developing can do a lot to improve its roads and for that it needs its traffic.

I’m Thai and totally agreed with you but there may be some point that you need to know like
1.Thailand is now on its way to promote no use of plastic (plastic bag and bottle) and if it is necessary to use , it usually recycled.
2.The transportation is bad but it is improving. The public transport like the train are getting renew and more station are being build every year. The price is still very expensive compared to other though but it will save you a lot of time using it.
3.Eating shark fin is a part of chinese culture and many people in Thailand also don’t support it. You may not know but many years ago, Chinese people migrated to Thailand and a lot of Thais nowadays are half chinese.
4.Many part of Thailand is a lot more beautiful and Thai authorities are working hard to promote the tourism in rural area to distribute the wealth around.
I personally recommend you visit northern part of Thailand like Chiangrai, Pai. During winter it is a nice place to go!

Thailand is in the stage of improving and still has many things to do and see. If you don't like BKK, it's fine. But please let others people experience it by themselves. Don't make this kind of vdo to downgrade BKK or pursuade others to ban Thailand just because of your own experinece here.
Anyway, the problems you had mentioned in this vdo is not 100% true. You must live in Thailand for longer period of time to acknowledge the whole system, so people will all accept your opinions.

    1) Be careful with what you wish for. ;-) When you said you almost want to wear a mask, I had to pause the video and go check when this video was made, OK, it was uploaded in Dec 2019, that makes sense, now, you have to wear a mask in a lot of place in Bangkok.
    2) Most Bangkok restaurants already charge a mandatory 15% service charge on the bill, you don't have to add any additional tip in that case. Of course you can if you still want to.
    3) Shark fin soup sold in Chinatwon doesn't really have real Shark Fin in them, they are substitutes made from glass noodles, you can enjoy the soup to your heart's content without a guilty conscience.

I was enjoying your videos until I came across this click bait of a mishmash videos with a negative slant. True enough, many have watched this video but you have dug a deep hole for yourselves here.
Plastic bottles are waste products of tourism. Locals boil water and drink from cups. High cost of living for the locals isnt a concern for tourists. It is the job of their government to set their public transport, food prices and the works for their own citizens. Flaming the city of bangkok to netizens will not lower public transport costs.
I can go on and on to counter your rants. But i think you guys can seriously help the world by stopping one of the world’s worst culprit, who destroy jobs, threaten war, humililate women, divide families, encourage hatred racially and religiously, lies, break promises, destroy economies, and corrupt the very values of that country.

Hi! I am sure you you guys have had heaps of feedback on this video, and have looked into the issues raised since uploading. That said, I feel that I have a few things I an add. Sorry for the novel. Firstly, the authorities in Thailand include all transit passengers as visitors, and as you stated in your BKK video it is a very popular transit for a reason, including all those people who intend to visit any other part of the country. To visit Khao Sok NP you are very likely to be counted as a 'visitor' to BKK. The population pressures on BKK stem largely from rapid economic development & people seeking a better life offered in part at least by that concentration of visitors (%20 of GDP in 2019 from tourism), clawing at that income inequality. Incidentally, the US is ranked the 51st worst GINI indexed nation (world bank est), far worse than Thailand at 87. We were in Bangkok in December 2019, and the air quality was terrible. While the government can, and is working towards lowering particle emissions from vehicles & industry, new laws telling impoverished farmers to not burn off sugar cane is proving harder. There are many and complex problems across the board here. The public transport system is being massively expanded, and the fares are paying for it. We all know about the public transport network in L.A. for a point of comparison! Plastic recycling & use has been raised by other commenters but additional info; the WHO testing rates the water quality as equal to that of L.A., but the pipe quality varies across the city. Apart from upgrading the network (I understand around one third completed) the city has far more ready access to refilling stations & drinking fountains to combat water bottle usage. Great that single use shopping bags are banned, but take-away curries and soups are going to be in plastic bags for some time. Travelers might like to buy tiffins or reusable bowls. Bamboo/cardboard containers are becoming more popular, as are outlets not supplying straws or drink lids. There are problems, but they are being addressed if people visit BKK or not. Now, shark fins. They need to ban shark fins just like three or four of the states in the US have (Kudos to CA). Another reason to discourage visitors to the US? This video was pre-Covid, and Thailand & the Thai people have taken a disproportionately large hit to the hip pocket due to the high % of GDP from tourism. Despite all this, I can suggest a very good reason to not visit Thailand at all, even when we can; it isn't a democracy. So, love your work & hope you can get back to producing new content in South-East Asia as soon as possible. I also hope to be back in the region soon. Perhaps we will meet up in Bangkok over a meal & a beer... just no shark fin for me, thanks!

I agree that Bangkok still have a lot of problems like you guys just said, Thank you very much about the problems you guys noticed and let us know so we Bangkokian could solve them.
By the way, When you guys come back to your own hometown in the states Could you please show us how the people lived over there when people could earn a lot of incomes and show us what they normally eat and also show us how beautiful and developed of the city and the streets and shops and also the people on the streets of your great country?
That would be a nice video for Bangkokian people to follow the way.🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍
