Something about the poetic irony of stone ruins and human ambitions. The way even stone wears away in the face of time. All the words made by people inhabiting these structures that have come and gone like the winds of time passing over ruins. The ruins seem a ghostly reminder. The moment moves onward. Time rolls forward. What stands the test of time? Onward, ever onward Gabriel!

Beautiful., it seems Antalya has some major ancient sites to see the Ottoman, Greek and Roman empire past history.

Last year I stayed in Side for about ten days. It is a great destination for a vacation. Manavgat waterfalls are worth visiting.

I can’t decide, from watching your Turkey videos, whether it’s come for the ancient ruins, stay for the food (and the Mediterranean) or come for the Turkish cuisine, stay for all the history (and the interesting topography). Turkey sure checks a lot of the boxes is what I’m taking away.

Hey Gabriel, very nice seeing going trough the Turkish rivera, especially Side. Me and my family have travelled over the Turkish rivera for many years and have many good memories of those vacations, especially the town of Side, to this day that is one of our favorite vacations (we went there way back in 2001).

Cool, Wiki says Side was once the home base of the Cicilian Pirates until defeated by Pompey, hence the connection with tourist pirate ships. 09:03 I think the "grand promenade" is the circus for chariot racing. Despite what modern movies show, chariot racing was far more popular in the Roman Empire than gladiatorial combat. Lot of money changing hands on betting on horses, just like today. 09:18 I often wonder if the decorative stone curls added to columns were actually a man made copy of ammonites they would have found in the limestone. 09:40 And the wall carvings show acorns from Oak trees that today don't grow that far south. Maybe it was wetter then. I think a wreath of oak leaves was given to the winner of the chariot race. Everything once again indicates earthquake damage, probably with reconstruction of the columns using the original stonework. 10:28 You can see how the earthquakes warped the street paving. The arches survived the earthquakes really well.

I prefer ancient sites more than Disney, I refused to go to any Disney. Imagine ancient sites like this walked by Alexander The Great, Cleopatra & Mark Anthony, where tourist only have to pay $6 to enter! My next Turkey adventure after the pandemic will begin from Antalya and east before I joint another Gulet/yacht cruise. I love the all the islands & colors of the Mediterranean! It was so lovely to see free roaming peacocks on the mountains of Rhodes last summer.
You should really try a Turkish massage! They also do 'soft' versions for westerners who aren't used to the intensity of the real thing.

Thank you for acknowledging Greek history in Turkey, they may have taken a lot from us Greeks but at least history can’t be rewritten. Some hate us but they don’t realize they are part of us. 💔 keep it up gabe!
@oguz b. Yeah right... Just look the recent example of Hagia Sophia and all other churches in Turkey that were destroyed. But for ancient Greek sites as it seems is good money used for tourism.
Because of its complexity, people in Anatolia were known as Ioniens and other tribes. They were called so by the hellenis, who were actually living in Ancient Greece. But the creator of epics such as homer, odyssey or ilias, these were actually the Ioniens who lived in anatolia. So the potential of creativity is both, hellenistic and Anatolian, but more likely Anatolian. Look at historical documents.

@@anatolienreisen Actually Ionians were Greek. Even today you Turks call Greeks Ionian. Yunan is a paraphrase of Ionian. Also one of the most important ancient Greek architecture style is the Ionian style (the Ionian rhythm).

There was only a brief reference in the ruins' sign at 6:00 but let me tell you an interesting fact about the Luwian, which was an ancient Anatolian language that was a member of the Indo-European family of languages. A dialect of Luwian was the last Anatolian language to go extinct, probably around 5th Cent AD. Anatolian languages were wiped out after Alexander the Great's Hellenization period.
Which inscriptions are you referring to? The inscriptions on the ancient ruins starting at 15:21 are in Greek.

Since you are very close, you should do rafting in köprülü canyon. You’ll travel to source of the river and its drinkable at the starting point. Its just behind Side through mountains. Next town Alanya is also worth a visit.
Amazing that they permit you to climb on the ruins. Turkey must not have lawyers or at least very draconian liability laws. In the USA that would be a lawsuit waiting to happen.
People should already know how to behave around ancient sites without any lawyer telling them what not to do but on the contrary they even write their names on the ruins unfortunately. Everytime I see those names I wish they become incompetent so we don't have to deal with the problematic children those attention seeking morons would probably fail to raise.
If you get hurt it's YOUR fault. You don't find someone else to blame.

However in the USA there is an over supply of lawyers who charge 40% of whatever they can extort out of those they say are guilty that a careless person, one looking at his phone or drunk should have no responsibility for his own reckless actions. Gabriel seems very fit and agile but it is easy to see someone else falling or tripping over the ruins.

Thanks for the video. It’s been years since I last went to Side. I don’t know what your plain is but you’re not so far away from the city of Denizli where Pamukkale (I guess you’ve been before) and the ancient city of Laodekiea (10km before Pamukkale) are located.

The eastern Roman empire (Byzantine) was a Greek speaking area and Christian worshipping area, that is a continuation of the Alexander the Great kingdom, which was a continuation of the Ancient Greek world. Amazing video! Amazing places!
I hope you managed to get to see the museum in the city just under the gates into the city accross from the amphitheatre, also hope you managed to see under the glass on the street aswel with the ancient city under neath. a truely beautiful city and people one of my favourite places on earth, the history, the culture, the warmth of the people is rare to find these days

You have probably mentioned this , but what is the situation in Turkey about wearing masks especially outside in the fresh air?
Depends where you are. When I was in Marmaris the police were enforcing that people wear masks outside, but that's the only place I've seen that so far.
