    In case anyone is confused, I didn't go to Cappadocia and then drive to the coast to visit Marmaris, Ephesus, etc. and then drive back to Cappadocia. The previous videos of Cappadocia were filmed a few days before this one. I decided to post a couple videos out of order to give people a taste of this incredible part of the world. So this video picks up right after the other Cappadocia vids. Here's the tour of the strange little town of Goreme: th-cam.com/video/Ij08GIzLSFM/w-d-xo.html

    Gabe, the INTREPID Traveler... It’s great to be able to vicariously travel via your great videos to places I’ve not seen, including lately many stunning places and fascinating monuments in Turkey? A QUESTION about how you manage travel safety? I keep being amazed by your ability to wander most anywhere with seeming nonchalance. Except for your earlier mention of snow leopards or bears in Nepal, I’ve noticed nary a word about risks for instance of scorpions, poisonous snakes, rabid dogs, disease or even robbers. Some countries and regions must just be a lot safer than others. Due diligence, travel advisories, insurance and earlier experience of course help. And then “on the road” lots of trekking, good food and mindfulness help to maintain good condition and balance, even while climbing and taking shots with a hand-held camera! Have you trained in martial arts?

Also You mentioned reinforced concrete, it's for someone whose about to make a home out of it. It's soft rock and if an earthquake hit, it's a little more protection at least that's what a Turkish guy told me.🤷‍♀️ I stayed at Emily's cave house in Gorme and they put extra plaster throughout the rooms for reinforcement. It would have been nice tho if they had a told me that sometimes the electric goes out and it's pitch black so have a flashlight nearby if you stay there lol, I found out the hard way and got a pretty bad bump on my head hitting the wall because it is pitch black!🤣 interesting experience to say the least. Not at all, I love dogs, as long as it doesn't seem like they want to kill me. Dogs are a regular part of the traveling experience and for the most part they are friendly and non-threatening. But I know from experience that some are aggressive and dangerous, so I try to deal with the situation in the moment as best as I can. The one I encountered in this video was super aggressive and it kind of appeared out of nowhere. I was walking along and suddenly it started barking ferociously when I was just a few feet away, and I didn't realize it was leashed yet.

    Okay those tower things, were there natural towers and they just shaped them a bit? Or did they completely carve those towers? Also, I don't think too many people lived there. I think it was more like just tombs.

    • @GabrielTravelerVideos
      @GabrielTravelerVideos  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The towers (fairy chimneys) are natural, but the caves were carved into them.

      The biggest danger is : he may sprain his ankle. I would wear outdoor shoes or boots. Surprisingly, he does not carry even a backpack. No water, no searchlight, no snacks, banana or sandwich. 😉

    I'm puzzled. The rock is a thick layer of tuff, a soft collection of volcanic ash. It's not much use for building fortifications since as Gabe discovered it can easily be broken. Doorway locks could be taken out wth a chisel and hammer, and an Ottoman cannon could blow a pillar to bits. They couldn't grow much food there due to poor soil so it would also be fairly easy to starve a population. And there doesn't seem to any natural water source for such a large area. It leads me to think that the population was more like a leper's colony or a persecuted group of people rather than a typical city. I think the shelves cut into the walls were for holding Christian iconography. There was a violent debate between Christians over iconography. The meal at the end looks tasty.

      They go on for miles, there are too many of them to be able to monitor them all, but there are much more impressive ones with amazing murals which are part of the Open Air Museum. I didn't go there this time because I visited it before. You can see them in this video: th-cam.com/video/Z-bCmBnzn6Y/w-d-xo.html
