When I first watched episode 8, I never knew how devastated I would be. The rest of the day just felt off. Like it's been 8 YEARS of loving that character.
The writing on Sasha's grave can be translated to
" Rest in eternal feast, Sasha Braus ".
The flowers that Mikasa gave represents true friendship.

Sasha and Mikasa’s friendship is so underrated I wish We got to see more of it. I loved how Mikasa Would mess with her and how’d they look out for each other during battles. They've been room mates since they were cadets in training. If you think about it after Ymir left and Historia became queen They were the only two girls left on the team. Mikasa sitting on her grave broke my heart.
The little moment this episode "No napping, Sasha" was so great.
Mikasa stayed there until the sunrise because they were roomates 😭 They are roomates till death.
+Their friendship is one of the prove that Mikasa doesn't only care to Eren, she cares for the all of them. Isayama showed it well in the manga, but, yeah.
Really annoying how their relationship was never shown, or even the fact that they were roomates was never even mentioned so people don't know their relationship

the thing about Sasha's death is that it wasn't supposed to be heroic. for that matter, nothing that happened there was heroic, it is supposed to be a tragedy. this feeling of "did she have to die that way?" applies to everyone that died there, it seems pointless and cruel
True...but I think that her death is greatly used later with the Wine thing and Sashas father etc.
So the death felt not cheap
War is war and she is a soldier. In aot world being in the main crew doesn't get you bullet proof. And what's about to happen makes a full circle about sahsa that's what really hit hard. Her death actually pushes the story moving forward.

So glad Shayne seems better after last episode. Every time he'd previously said he loved Sasha, I imagined how hard this would be on him, as it was on all of us who loved potato girl :(
Plus, I loved that both are not hating Gabi and comprehended her rage. She's exactly like Eren when Shiganshina fell so...

Sasha was the comedic relief of the show & probably the most positive character, she was always positive in dire situations, so I felt like her death symbolizes a dark turn for this series. Imo, it had to be one of the those 3 who got shot, if it were just a random, it wouldn't even be meaningful & we wouldn't care. This death broke a bit of each of our main scouts. This AOT is no longer the AOT we once knew, we're used to always seeing Armin, Mikasa, & Eren together, but at the end of this episode they're all off on their own. As far as wanting a "better" sendoff for Sasha, you'll see.

What special about Sasha is that she hasnt done things like Erwin died as a side character, she didnt died in a sort of dramatic way, but we all get sad of her death. She's a perfect side character that was not saved by plot armor, she died like how a normal soldier would die in a battlefield. But we all know, Sasha's death gave developments for some of our characters.

Not everyone gets a heroic death scene because that's how real life goes, and that's exactly what Isayama wants to portray with AoT. In war some of the most lovable, amazing soldiers die without any heroic death.
Edit: there were MULTIPLE lookouts. Jean and the others were among them. He was telling Lobov to ascend already but Lobov refused and wanted to check things out below more.
i honestly cant think of a single character that had a heroic death- maybe Hannes's? Ewin's? but even that's a stretch... no one can become a hero in this show
Yeah, they had lookouts but they were done and dude should’ve gone back inside so they could elevate out of range. No one should’ve celebrated until they were out of enemy territory. The combo of Lobov taking too long and his absence not being noticed right away, plus the distraction of the loud celebration was the perfect mix of things to allow gabi’s assassination. Basically, just how things get effed up in real life.

34:05 As a response to Shayne, Ymir DID get the jaw. It didn’t look as fancy as Galliard’s, but you can clearly see her teeth changed if you compare her pure titan form (when she ate Marcel) to her form afterwards.
Do we know why it didn't look as fancy?
Is it just their blood that the Jaw has a mask? For example, Eren, Grisha, and Zeke all have elf ears on their titans. Idk if it's spoilers don't tell.
@@boggless2771 You could say that. Both Porco and Marcel have the characteristic face as well.
Also remember that Marley probably have a lot of bottled Titan powers, similarly how Rod Reiss had a bottled power of "armor" probably Marley also can isolate and bottle up titan abilities to help their warriors get into their prime titan powers without having to go through years of training. Perhaps this was jaw juiced up with some other bottles and powers, and this is why it looked like it did.

Another possibility I thought of was that maybe, it had to do with the fact that Ymir was a mindless titan for 60 years before eating Marcel, whereas the Warriors eat their predecessor right after being turned? So maybe Ymir's mindless titan form sorta took hold in these 60 years?
EVERY PREVIOUS HINT OF ZEKE WORKING WITH EREN :
-Obviously the "I'll come and rescue you someday" at the beginning of 3x18
-Zeke's line "not in this room" at the end of 4x2 which was a bit fishy, and got noticed by Reiner and a Marley officer listening to the conversation
-The second time we see Eren and Falco talking, Eren has a baseball and a baseball glove (and we know how much Zeke likes to throw stuff)
-Willy and Magath's conversation, when Willy says "the house is full of rats", meaning Marley seems to be spied on from the inside by people working with the enemy
-When Yelena comes to get Galliard and Pieck away from the future battlefield, she asks Zeke to go at the gate, and Zeke casually obeys
-When he comes back as the Beast Titan, he says "Eren is not my enemy", which, now we know, is literally true, and also says "You're running out of time" to Levi, who just happened to be holding a watch in his hands, vewy weird...
Not to mention, When Falco comes pick Reiner up and take him to Eren, it is Zeke who says it's fine and they have enough time before the presentation.

also the fact that Zeke never said to the Marleyans authorities that he has royal blood: not clearly indicatin that he's working with Eren, but fishy enough to show he's not fully on Marley's side.
About the line "the house is full of rats" though: I've read in another comment that in Japanese, "rat" doesn't allude to a traitor but more to spy: Willy said that he knows they've been infitrated by the ennemy.
Zeke going long with the weird interruption from Yelena in disguise as the "War Chief" that all the other Warriors look up to is the only reason why it worked. It was masterfully executed by him. otherwise Pieck catches on way quicker, and probably Reiner too

Sasha’s death was actually supposed to happen in season 2 when she rescued the little girl in her hometown. She was supposed to die to the Titan in an effort to save the little girl, but Isayama’s editor read the chapter and was sad about her death and concinced Isayama to change it, giving us the AoT we know today.

For those who can't understand the timeline,
The success of the Wall Maria recapture operation was four years ago. And Marley started a war with the Mid-East Alliance from then on because they lost their Female and Colossal.
Since then, Scout have killed all the titans on the island for a year.
Three years ago, the time when all the titans were killed, Marley sent the first investigation ship to Paradise Island, where soldiers such as Yelena and Oniancopon were on board.
In other words, scouts and Zeke have never faced each other directly after the Battle of Wall Maria, and they communicated through Zeke's follower, Yelena.
something else happened in those 3 years that led to the raid of Liberio.

Erwin's death was perfect for the plot and character arc plus it adds layers to Levi and Armin's characters. Sasha's death was a catalyst for Gabi's character development, as well as the overall tonal shift of the show.

Mikasa was my favorite character. She's not the type of cliche strong anime character who's cold,edgy and controls/or afraid to shows emotions. Just how her character was written further on absolutely satisfy my likings. Mikasa is my superhero, and my comfort character. Whenever i have problems, i just deal it with how Mikasa deal with things.

The thing about Sasha is that her death wasn't indeed like erwin's which felt more acceptable. In fact the story chose to let her die but even worse as a mere "casualty". (of course that's not how we see and feel about Sacha but how the story made it seem)
it was did on purpose for those who still believe that there are sides in this story (it's true and understandable that we all love the scouts more than the marleyan side because we spent so much time with them but this show is trying to make us see the bigure picture by humaniing the other side. Did Eren really choose the best choice ? Wasn't there another outcome that would have avoided all this ? ( And Sasha dying in such an unfair and pitful way are hints to this)
Good comment, you said what I was thinking. War is hell for both sides and every single death will leave a feeling of incompleteness and a hole in somebody’s heart. It’s easy to empathize with someone you know dying like Sasha but every person who died in Marley had people who loved them. Sasha’s death gives us a tiny fraction of the pain the Marley people just went through.

Marleyians started the war on paradis and he only responded after they declared war on his people.

Eren attacked literally seconds after Marley's declaration of war, so no, there is no talking out of this. Armin was wrong. There was no misconception.

Because they were hoping for peace against all odds(even if they are allying against paradise, there’s still a possibility for understanding ), but Eren erased this possibility completely and forced them to reduce whatever time they had to think about peace ( I’m not blaming Eren’s action because like you said they were going to attack sooner or later I’m blaming him for taking the initiative for his people because even if he has no choice, he dragged them with him and reduced the future initiatives and time they disposed of to figure out how to make peace.) Finally I do think that it’s too great of a choice for one person to carry.
It only seem fair to know what everyone wants and to act in consequence.
When I say that I think of Erwin and his coup d’etat, he was the initiator of it but he give a choice to all the inhabitants of the wall the choice, to either believe in his coup d état or reject it. That’s one point that proves how great af a person Erwin is because his life was in stack but he still gave a choice even if he had to die for it.( obviously he knew that people will support it because he’s a fine strategist)
I’m not saying that Eren’s choice was logically bad but it’s the worse morally, ethically and don’t give this so called freedom,choice and free will to the people he’s fighting for (fighting for their sake to give them freedom in an ironical way)

Zeke working with Paradis was teased in episode 4. Who else would’ve given Eren a baseball? Can’t believe they shoved it right in our face and yet most people didn’t realize it.
1:55 i totally understand how you feel because i felt the same, we know aot doesn't hold back on killing characters but sasha's death felt so unnecessary at least at that point. Eren killed innocents, children and leaders from the entire world, there is basically no coming back from what he's done, it became impossible to use diplomacy but the creator decided to hit us where it hurts the most. Eren's actions also costed the life of a dear friend to the audience and the show even shows it at 20:25 how Eren "shot" sasha.

reiner, bertholdt, annie. ALL killed civilians, kids. They got it coming.
Eren didn't purposefully kill kids and civilians he actually after transforming only went for soldiers and warhammer titan.
It's war he can't tip toe in titan form to not hit civilians. So i disagree on eren being a "bad guy" or made bad plans. What is he supposed to do?

You're so right but I still think Eren's action is just but wrong. I still think Sasha's death was Eren's fault in a way but I think it would be more than Sasha who would die in this war if Eren hadn't done what he did.
Keep in mind that Marley's number of soldiers is around the same number if not greater than the entire population of Paradis.
Titans inside walls have same height as colossal titan but their foot are 10m in the ground. One of the mid episode note in season 1 confirms it.
I'm glad Shayne is still around and feeling better.
Also remember this is war, Jean said it in Season 1 that any of them could end up like Marco and not have a heroic death.

Sasha’s death was out of nowhere. Looking at it just for her character, it didn’t make sense. You couldn’t sense it was coming at all. That’s why it is the best and most realistic death in attack on titan. In war, it doesn’t matter what goals you had for the future. It only takes 1 bullet to put an end to your story. Even an innocent soul like Sasha.

The sasha s death has a meaning. She was one of the symbol of freedom, she was free being her self. That kind of freedom is dead now. Now the only kind of "freedom" is what Eren is seeking. Anyway, in war shit happen, people die without meaning...

If anything Sasha's death felt the most real because in war there are no "Main characters" there are just soldiers that don't have plot armor and can die just like that. Everyone is a red shirt in war.
U know the original death of Sasha was supposed to be in S2 when she saved that little girl & that Titan killed her. Think of King Kong ripping off the jaw in Skull Island.
