If you understand Japanese you'll know that in this episode Eren is somewhow still respecting Hange by using keigo (polite language) when he's speaking to her despite his attitude. The subtitle doesn't really show it and it's kind of a shame 🤷🏻♀️
Yeah, the translations usually make Eren sound like an asshole to Hange when it makes more sense that he sounds desperate to find a better path than what he's got in mind.
Omg that's very juicy info. However I think this way is better as it makes erens intentions seem more ambiguous.

Reminders to prevent confusion
1. "Historia's pregnancy" is not strange
- Because this is the first time show has shown Historia's current state in season 4
2. Azmabito is not on Paradis Island now.
- They just stopped by two years ago to announce Zeke's plan and left the Island right away
3. 104th's railroad scene was a year ago.
- It was deleted from Anime, but Manga says it was a year ago.
- And it means Eren was the Eren we knew until at least a year ago.

You can see gradually all the doors of hope are closing in front of Eren. When he was talking to Hange he was desperately searching for an answer. But , nobody gave him a way to solve the problem. It's so sad man.
I love Hange's response to Eren being aggressive with her. She played it off like someone would in real life. This is a new side to Eren she's not familiar with, she understands his situation and therefore doesn't easily jump the gun and chastise him for going nuts towards her. She only reflected on the moment afterwards, when she let the self doubt creep in regarding Erwin's decision to promote her. All these characters are so well written.
Ironically, the fact that she didn't react to Eren's rage in that moment shows emotional maturity and the ability o see the bigger picture which is EXACTLY one of the qualities she possesses which is why Erwin promoted her.

In the event you're not, it's my opinion that whilst she wanted to react more harshly, she instead decides to make light of what just happened as she: A) still *hasn't* come to terms with what Eren has become and B) Doesn't want to escalate the situation any further by drawing attention to what just happened.

The scene in the wagon where they are just talking and blushing was the highlight of the episode for me. That was so wholesome yet so heartbreaking.
Followed up by the current situation.. Right after you hear they're all important to Eren.. We see the crew discussing him. Concluded by Armin suggesting they have the option to sacrifice Eren. Armin's words there were hurtful, because at this point they felt further than ever from the 3 musketeers I remember from the beginning.

The brilliance of Eren's character is that he seems so different in S4 than in S1 and yet is still the same character at his core. I love how Isayama twists Eren's call to fight in S1 and portrays it in an entirely different light when Eren says it again in S4. Amazing writing and amazing insight into how Eren has changed over the years while maintaining that same idea.

Yup, that’s the best thing about his character. His mannerisms may be completely different now, but he is still the same person, with the same worldview and motivations. It’s more that his environment changes and the situations he’s in.

He has plenty of experience being in tough situations and all the suffering makes a person stronger mentally. The change in Eren is justified,it would be impossible to go through:
- Seeing his mom killed -> Pointing rage towards titan. Realising his friends were the ones that were behind the wall attack and they were traitors so he changes the anger from titans to laina and bertorthld.
He starts thinking about his dad actions and realises he was never special because of his power,the whole historia arc made him more natural and mentally prepared to kill both of their friends while regretting and he thought that he was not that strong and he started training.
Goes to shiganshina learns the truth of the world and points his anger towards the rest of the world.
"The attack titan" will attack them and nothing can avoid that.
Now eren is fully prepared to get freedom. Eren has changed but in a physiological way of his ideals being different. And he uses the experience,calmness and intelligence to outsmart the military + marleyans.
8:48 "he smiled" the only time Eren smiled in this season was in a flashback scene from 2 years ago. Man that hit hard
Let me provide an additional explanation.
Mikasa's mom tells her how to make an embroidery on season 1 episode 6. But actually she got a tattoo from mom at that time in Manga.
They replaced it to the embroidery because they thought it is not good expression that parents give a tattoo to them own child.

This! I really wished Wit hadn't changed that scene because it was really important for Mikasa to have the tattoo.
I hope someone can tell Shane and Austin (spelling?) that Mikasa getting a tattoo from her mom was actually shown, and that her wrist was always covered with a bandage whenever her arm was exposed, in the manga. So Mikasa being a descendant of Azumabito royalty wasn't a random thing thrown in there.
I'm the type of person who involuntarily smiles in stressful situations, so when Eren did that I saw myself in him.

Laughing in desperation is also pretty consistent for Eren, remember Hannes'es death? Mikasa should know.

To me this is the episode that makes us understand that Eren and the Scouts might not be true allies anymore. And for some reason, it's so cool.
This entire episode adds so much more ambiguity, depth and mystery to this story. This episode and the ones before did a really good job at making us wondering "WTF is up with Eren ?"
the tattoo thing for me just seemed to come out of no where
but then i looked up every photo of mikasa w/out her sleeves- and in every instance in the manga she is wearing a bandage over it if her sleeves are up, and then i read the manga cause apparently the anime left a lot of interesting lil details they never thought would be used for foreshadowing, and the day mikasa's parents die, her mother gives her the brand, not teach her an embroidery-
i swear this story is too much just wow

@@TokyoKazama I feel two people is the perfect number for reactions, it's small enough that it feels personal and genuine but also allows for better discussions. When it comes to bigger groups like the Normies and RT TV, it can tend to feel like they're more concerned with being entertaining rather than genuinely enjoying the show. Nothing more awkward than watching reactors who you can tell are watching something for the clicks and view it as a job. Also I have a hard time enjoying a reaction if I feel like someone isn't into the show, which is easier to spot with bigger groups.

Yeah. She knows that Eren loves them somehow, she didnt know whats his intentions are, but she still thinks Eren is doing something for them to benefit.
mikasa is the only one who don't see eren as a monster. yet the line "the world is cruel yet so beautiful". that's why she asked later, "what did i see with eren". eren asked her "what am i to you" to mikasa because he didn't understand why someone could still love him even tho he considered himself as a monster.
Well Eren laughed after Hannes' death in "scream"
It was not really a laugh because he was happy to see him die, it was more like "why me, why know, why did this happen. I suck pls kill me. Im so sad i just want to die. Im sorry...." Same happened when Sasha died, he luaghed because thats just his way of showing sad emotion.

In my opinion he clearly cares, he just tries to make it look like he doesnt. For example when sasha died Eren eas literally broken inside. Eren ist still the Eren we know but im pretty sure Eren knows more then we and the rest of the people know. Something changed him dramatically in a short amount of time but i dont know what it is.

Great reaction guys! I'm always wanting for your intake on AoT, you're really invested in this show! There is one detail when Hange speaks with Eren and I think it has to do with the subs being slightly wrong. I think when Eren confronts Hange he should said something like "If there is another way, then tell what it is!" which gives a completely different meaning, like almost imploring for am alternative from what he's doing. And I think Hange should have said something like "I knew you would never sacrifice Historia"... I'm almost sure those were some mistranslations, so it's good to bear them in mind. Eren wasted 4 years which is like 50% of his life span since he had 8 years left at the end of s3, he tried everything and in part 2 u will see that they even went to meeting and failed miserably and Eren gave up all hope and attacked when Willy and the Marleyns declared the war.

People forget Eren's mind break when Hannes died. He laughed. In agony. What was clearly shown when Sasha died. That he coudl not change and protect anything. Also that Eren saw 1st than anyone the hatred for Eldians from marley and the rest of the world. That he confirmed it by living there himself. And that if they waited for ones that had no intention to even talk (call abck to the foreshadowing of how Marco died not coincidentally by Marley warriors Bertold, Annie and Reiner) they would hae indeed been killed and they had to initiate defence. And the biggest aspect: he was running out of life expectancy form the 13 years they get to live as titans.
It seems like they've missed a scene where the Warriors are discussing next steps...unless that comes in the next episode? I can't remember

The reason why Eren was laughing wasn't because he found it funny btw. Remember when Hannes died in the season 2 finale? He had a hysteria laugh. Only Mikasa was there when that happened, though so nobody knows that that's a thing he does
He actually laughed because he already saw sashas death and he realized that everything he saw in his head came true. So he knows what happens in the future...
I think in this situations corpses needs erwin more than armin. We're seeing now to how bad choice to choose armin over erwin
If they chose Erwin, it’s very possible they wouldn’t have thought to blow up the fleet with colossal. The corps would already be wiped out
@@_Xenux Eren’s the one who made Armin blow up the port. Jean even said that this episode. That’s half of why Eren came to Marley-to damage their military forces (especially the navy). Plus, I bet most characters already realized the navy was a threat and would’ve all brought it up anyways.
Too many people try to spin the Armin-Erwin debate into “Armin has more potential” which is blatantly untrue. The show itself has already told us that Erwin was always the better strategic choice, and that Armin was only chosen to be injected because Levi wanted Erwin to rest. That was pretty much the main message of Midnight Sun, so I don’t know why people keep coping by trying to justify Armin as the better strategic choice.
For some reason im pretty sure Erwin would understand Eren and both would make good plan where not many have to die

I think the reason why this topic is so split is because of the importance of each character. The positive outcomes that we've achieved are only possible because we had both Erwin and Armin. They both played an absolutely vital role
Now, we only have Armin. Was it the right choice? We don't know. We won't know. Its like Levi says. We don't know how the AOT world would currently be if Erwin was still alive and Armin wasn't

This episode literally showed that Eren and the rest did try every possible way to end it all peacefully but nothing worked since Marleyns and the rest won't even look at the island "devils"🙄. It's easy for the world to just have a single enemy and blame it all on him and u cannot change the whole worlds mind.
My thoughts during this episode has always been, Eren must know something we don’t. If not he wouldn’t have changed like this. I could be wrong but I really get a feeling that Eren has a plan that he isn’t sharing for some reason.
