Hi there Dirk, a great looking Clod Buster. You’ve really painted the body well, looks really good. Bearings are a must for sure, I really don’t understand why Tamiya don’t put them in the kits as standard, especially as the competition widely do, for the same money. I hope you’re able to source you intended upgrades easily, it would be nice to see again, when you’ve completed them. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and the family. 🎄🎅😊😉
Hi John. I fear it's some kind of tradition. In the 80s the sealed Tamiyas were very expensive, and still are. So they sold it as upgrade parts. First turn-around came as their company daughter Carson came up with cheap (non-sealed) ones. They somehow never learned, that ball bearings are mandatory. On the other hand there are many out there in the RC family who say, I'm fine with bushings, because of dirt, water, etc. Shorter running times are accepted, because batteries are cheap. No matter what they do, they'll always do it wrong😁. Thanks for watching and best wishes for the holidays.
Looks nice I like the color!! for motors I use the cheap RC4WD 20T crawler motors in mine they are perfect faster than stock but not so fast that you always end up breaking your truck.
Hi Dirk and thanks for sharing your tips for the Clod! You did a great job with the build and paint, it really looks fantastic! I hope your weekend is going well, my friend! Cheers! :))
Hi fella! Just found your channel after seeing your comment on one of our videos at Green hawks rc! Awesome video mate, LOVE the clod since the eighties! Got a super clod myself still new in box..... have been reluctant to build her as she is so HUGE! (running out of space!) That paint job is stunning, and those shocks look delightful.... certainly seems less bouncy as well! Interesting regarding the timing on the motors, something I need to look into when I finally build mine as I rarely use the stock silver cans. Looks like you have some interesting content on here, will be checking out your back catalogue of uploads for sure. Just subbed! 😊 👍 👍 👍 👍
Thanks a lot for watching and your kind comment my friend. This car's really huge and heavy. It has an own spot in the shelf and doesn't fit to my storage system of the other cars. But I love it. You can uae the standard motors. Steve drom Shen RC testet motors with lower turns and got only one mph more top speed. So for me I'm not sure if the effort is worth the work, but it's hobby. So why not?😁. The dampers are cool and give a better adjustment of the car as the pogos of the kit. Unfortunately these are out of stock. But searching for 110 mm shocks for Traxxas EMAXX or SMAXX might help😉 There're more upgrade possibilities for this car if you life in the US. Great you like my content and thanks you your sub. Stay safe and have a nice weekend.
@@RCBirds Lol.... Yes, that's exactly the problem I have, and the main reason I havent built it yet mate! Most interesting what you mentioned regarding only 1mph increase in speed when using lesser turn motors, cheers for the knowledge.... will try the silver cans first then and see how we get on! But hey, let's face it.... the clods not about speed really anyway is it?! 😂 I'm based in the UK, but in these modern Internet times access to parts and upgrades is pretty open really. When I restored my 959 and celica grb I sourced parts from all over the world - USA, France, China, Japan etc! The clods upgrade potential is truly mind blowing for sure, I've seen some where the only original parts are the gearbox's! 🤣 Very impressive, but going to keep mine fairly stock..... although I have managed to source some original decals from the first release which I think will look nice over the super clod blue paint! Just for old times sake! 😉 👍 👍 👍
Sorry, I have to correct myself, it's two mph. It's a long time ago when I saw the video: th-cam.com/video/kJNF62adIGs/w-d-xo.html And you're right it's more about fun. For raxing the steering should be the first thing to be upgraded. All in all you have a cool car. Maybe not preciese or fast but so much fun.
Gorgeous truck! I love its a driver even with hard to get parts. I have a thrown away in the garbage rusted grimmey Smshing Pumpkin im bring back from the Grave this summer. I really like your videos. Its easy to listen to you and you explain very well. Cheers bro 👌 youre the best
Very interesting. This is one of those kits I would like to do one day but it does seem that you do need a fair few upgrades to make it run well. Yours looks really nice with that paint job. Thanks for sharing your top tips 😁
Thanks Pete. I know many out there are complaining about the steering, but it's a Tamiya. Out of the box it works. Maybe not great, but it works. If you break down the upgrades to the nessecarriy ones, only the ball bearings should be made. If you can get your hands on JConcept parts, you can make a competition car out of it.
Ersthaft?
ball bearings 8 shocks ultra light oil 4 springs and dual brushless , metal bumpers (holds servo, better : 2-4,4-4 and 4-2 steering and lower center of gravety) dual servo 25kg and its a beast XD to bad it got expensive really fast lol
The stock ones. Everything else in the Tamiya program is timed and won't work. Both motors have to run in opposite direction at the same time in the Clod. It think RC4WD has some none-timed 17T motors.
@@RCBirds one helpful tip, the B series have straight frame rails, and C series frame rails drop down, otherwise they are same size all parts interchange

What Motor Did You Get For The Clodbuster
The stock ones. Everything else in the Tamiya program is timed and won't work. Both motors have to run in opposite direction at the same time in the Clod. It think RC4WD has some none-timed 17T motors.
I request you get a WPL now
I'll keep that in mind. I'm a fan of the D-series kei cars or an FJ. So many projects and the next three are planed and on budget.😉
