Gavin that Clod has morphed into a modern truck , it’s definitely a runner now it runs smooth and looks like it handles well . Damn now I’m going to have to get one . I think it’s contagious.
As a kid I always dreamed of owning a customized Clod. I finally got on in the late 90s but was basically out of the hobby at the time so I didnt do anything with it. These days Im into 10th and 8th scale racing which sucks up all of my time and money but I would love to start a project like this some day. Your Clod is perfect. Not over done or underwhelming. Keep the great content coming!
Soo glad to see someone build up a Clod with this chassis, I found it by accident whilst looking for Clod upgrades (I have the same one you started with) before I start building, I may just get the upgraded chassis now! Keep up the great work
Just a point of interest for those that dont know. The servo's torque rating is taken from a pick up point that is 10mm from the centre of the servo, so if your pick up point is at 20mm out from centre then your 25kg servo is now only giving 12.5kg "ish". Maybe thats an idea for a video gavin. Nail a servo to the bench to see what it really pulls, say every 5mm up to 30mm or so. The results may suprise us all. I built the tamiya cars for a couple of beatties shops back in the 90's which i was lucky enough to have built most of what tamiya had at the time but like you, the avante wasn't one of them. I'm gonna take the kick in the nuts and stump up for the black special ! Keep up the good work 👍
Yep I know about the servo horn position plays a big part in actual servo output power. On the Clod I was luck and able to connect the servo horn on the closest position to maximize the servos output. I'm really happy with the bargain 25kg Banggood servo specials. For £11.00 each I've not had one fail and I have about 15 of them now. Only thing I wouldn't use them for is racing buggies as you need a super fast servo and these are not fast enough for that application. Banggood servo Link in the video description if you want some as well as help out the channel.
I’ve been waiting for you to get the whole thing sorted out before I do any upgrades to mine. I wasn’t expecting it to require a 3s LiPo! The stock setup is doing wheelies on 6 cell NiMH. It just can’t steer properly. BTW, I use a FlySky GT5 radio. It’s got everything needed for 4WS plus there’s a gyro in the receiver which keeps them going straight and stable.
That Clod is starting to really come along and looks amazing, you may want to change those steering knuckles as were they attach onto the steering links can be a weak point.. I broke a few myself so have gone with aluminum parts now. yes 3s is all you need, I had 4s on 550 motors and to be honest it was just too fast.. as for the Vanquish I agree with you 100% but they should make a carbon chassis for people that would like one.. really loving the Video series and looking forward to the next one
Looks good my friend! Try making the lower links from the axles to the Chassis parallel with the ground. you’ll be surprised at how the handling of it will get tremendously better
Nice to come!! Love Tamiyas! Anyway kev I wouldn’t invest in hop ups for a tt01 (lambo) I would build a tt02 SRX chassis kit instead with high gearing (64t/29t) and a hobbywing just stock 13.5t combo, and I promise you it will rip!! Club races in my hometown are epic
You dont need a special radio/transmitter to get the 4 wheel steer. Just take apart the rear servo and swap the wiring around so its reversed. Then wire both servos to channel 1 with a splitter cable. It took me all of about 10 minutes after finding a TH-cam video via Google.
I told you about Jconncepts chassis. The main point of that chassis is behind the axle steering servo mount for better throw and well it’s not sticking out front.
I'd guess it's either replacing the weakest parts with a more modern softer plastic with a thicker piece just too get rid of a bit of that vulnerability & longer screws or a carbon fibre plate where its possible & fixing some smaller points of vulnerability with just a metal piece or two that works as an anchor point that bolts through too that carbon fibre. Carbon fibre is ridiculoulsly light & strong anyway so they could pretty much use left over junk pieces from when they cut pieces for their other cars in the trf onroad & f1 chassis cars.
Have to agree with 2x 540's on 3s, Clod is plenty of fun even with 8.4-9.6V NiMH. The 3S Lipo may spit out a motor brush every now and again, but at the cost of stock 540's....... If the 3S fries the motors too quickly you could always go to ~35 turn motors.
You can find them on amazon or hobby town usa tamiya usa horizon hobby and eBay etc. the harder to find ones will be on eBay for price gouging. Not sure what country your in, but just have to search.
Gav. I assume you want the 6 channel to allow swoping between steering types F,R,F+R,crab. But in the mean time if you fitted both servos to a single channel with a Y cable spliter plus a signal inverter to the rear (or fit the rear servo saver upside down) then you'd have perminent 4 wheel steering till your 6 channel arrives. I just wanna see it rockin! lol
@@RCKickschannel Hey Gavin, just wondered if you sorted the wiring out on this build? I am doing a restoration on 2 Clodbusters for a friend and he wants this mod done to both. Just wondering how to wire it using a Y splitter. Thanks
How did that 6 channel Remote go? is it any good? i'm getting back into Rc after 20 yrs and just got a Super Clod and i want to do the Dual servo steering like you did. great vid!
J concept have some lovely stuff but Unfortunately everything would have import charges and handling fees on top and parts get even more expensive. Shame
How come you don’t flash your Flysky radio with the custom firmware? You will have access to lots of mixes for the steering. I’ve done it with my GT2B to get tank steering for my Robbe/Reely rodeo 6x6.
its almost not even a clodbuster, im buying the frame only and ill get the metal axles for it and just get all the stuff that i need to make it move and i wont even have to buy a clodbuster
Gavin that Clod has morphed into a modern truck , it’s definitely a runner now it runs smooth and looks like it handles well . Damn now I’m going to have to get one . I think it’s contagious.
Go for it, these things are loads of fun. Only issue is finding a place to keep it. BIG!

Hi Trevor, thanks the Clod is great fun to drive and it handles scale so is a total blast.

This is a really exciting build, looking forward to the next video.
LOVE THIS... ❤
Nice clodbuster
Gorgeous mate well done.
Thank you so much 😀

That’s a beast 👍👍👍

Awesome RC truck 👍
I wish I could have one 👍

Thanks for the tip, will do.

Try putting thicker oil in the shocks also use stiffer springs to firm up the suspension

Hi, Just too expensive with shipping, import tax and handling fee unfortunately.
I've wanted a Clodbuster since they were first released. Couldn't afford one then, but now I'm worried that buying one will drain my bank account. 😂😂😂
It will (Loads!) but it's so worth it Vince. So much fun to drive.
@@RCKickschannel been a bit, but I just received my 1st gen in the mail. All original, and stock. Lots of upgrades to follow.
Very nice amigo 😀👍

Gorgeous! What type of blue is that???
Could you please do a video on timing motors?
hi ..can i ask you what the wheelbase measurement is please
So I have to have a 6 channel radio to run the Clod Buster the right way…?
I'd be interested to hear more about those little Tamiya cars displayed around your plant...what are they, and where can they be found?
You can get them off eBay 👍🏻
You can find them on amazon or hobby town usa tamiya usa horizon hobby and eBay etc. the harder to find ones will be on eBay for price gouging. Not sure what country your in, but just have to search.
Can you show how to program your remote? I did the same thing but cant figure out how to mix them.

Do you have any info on clod buster primadonna build?
J concepts has a steer behind system they just came out with
J concept have some lovely stuff but Unfortunately everything would have import charges and handling fees on top and parts get even more expensive. Shame
That’s lookin good m8 did u try rosmods in rawtinstall for the radio link as they sell them n normally have them in stock m8
Picked mine up off eBay. Thinking about it that would have been a quicker way to go.
RCKicks they r good shop n orders over £50 is free plus there in uk lol 😂 it’s a m8s shop m8
Gavin why can’t you just use a servo spliter lead or Y lead? Wouldn’t that save you having to get a 6ch radio system.. what am I missing here
You can’t dial in the end points or the servo speeds separately like you can with a six channel.
How come you don’t flash your Flysky radio with the custom firmware? You will have access to lots of mixes for the steering. I’ve done it with my GT2B to get tank steering for my Robbe/Reely rodeo 6x6.
Never looked into it Oscar.
what is your wheel base centre to centre please
wheelbase is 13.5"
What kind of steering servos are you using
Reef
I think it's possible to use a Y servo cable for both servos as a cheap alternative, but... I don't think you can adjust your servos individually
What does it cost to build it?
Nothing if you do it yourself Max.
Maybeeee, Ampro's Silverado grill n lights? The 4x4x4 is brass-balls yucky, imo.
its almost not even a clodbuster, im buying the frame only and ill get the metal axles for it and just get all the stuff that i need to make it move and i wont even have to buy a clodbuster
Don't matter that you never built an Avante from scratch. You've rebuilt them which is the same thing really.
You could have just hacked the gt3c of yours with psx custom firmware
I must try that at some point.
