Thank you so much! My doctor prescribed cholesteol med. I have been resistant to take it. However, I have all the 3 reasons that you mentioned. I've made my decision. Thanks!
Dr Ashley, thank you very much for this excellent podcast... The best! For the first time I understand cholesterol! I enjoy listening to your podcasts.. Very informative.
Thank you Dr. Ashley. Great information. I was told last year my cholesterol was 214 and my doctor wanted to put me on a statin. I said “No thank you. I’ll address it through my diet”. I am cutting back on carbs and slowly battling my sugar addiction. ☺️
Thank you! The difference between LDL and Very Low Density was so helpful to me. I’ve always had high triglycerides, until I started taking Bergamot a year ago, then joined PhDWeightLoss. It’s 96!
Thank you for this. I've lost almost 40 lbs. on PhD and since I last saw my doctor. She had ordered labs then and the video reminded me that she wanted me to have them re-done in what I thought was six months. But I just checked my records and she had said 2-3 months. Oops! My lab work six months ago was ok but not great. I'm hoping that my next results will be awesome!
Good information, Dr Ashley! All of my cholesterol levels have always been good... HDL could maybe be a little higher. But, my cardiologist put me on a statin, he said, as a preventative.... I guess because my EF is low and blood is circulating slower than normal. Still... taking good notes in with me for an upcoming app.
My doctor doesn’t wanna address any other problems I had until I was medicated for my ADHD,and after that now doesn’t wanna help with anything if I’m not going to take a satin for my high cholesterol. I’ve been refusing for three years, with him and I knowing we aren’t addressing the problem I have with that.
I'm the same. Doctor made it clear she didn't think I had ADHD and I had to insist she refer me for assessment. While i was there she took my bloods which got this next issue rolling. My bloods came back with v high cholesterol and she wanted to put me on statins. I was shocked. I'm not overweight, low bp, don't smoke, low triglycerides.............. now I'm asking for c-reactive protein tests and CAC tests and I can see her face '''ok, right, actually now I believe this PITA *does* have ADHD'' but as if I should let this go and take a drug I don't need. If she believes I need it then she can refer me for those tests. but she won't............. which makes me think I don't need statins
Will listen to this a few more times to glean the information. Good stuff (and I'm an RN--it does all make sense, but an area with which I'm not too familiar). Thank you for this.
Excellent content! I follow a high fat, low-carb diet and very active lifestyle, cardio and weightlifting 3-5 days a week. I feel great, but my total cholesterol is high, and my doctor says I need to get on a statin. About 5 years ago, my diet and lifestyle were different, and my company offered reduced health insurance co-pay if you voluntarily took an A1C test. I didn't properly fast for the blood glucose test, and he said I was borderline type 2 pre-diabetic and had high cholesterol. He wrote a prescription for a statin, and I never took it. I changed my lifestyle and diet immediately at that point. My question is, when I question my doctor, he gets defensive and says he's a professional and knows more than I do. Stop listening to you and other youtube doctors. How do I address his insecurities, or do I gljust get another doctor?
I'm sorry you're struggling with your healthcare provider. I would advise finding another doctor who is open to your curiosity and who is also curious themselves. "The Lies my Doctor Told Me, by Ken Berry is a great book you might enjoy. Cheers to you adopting a healthier lifestyle on your own! Love hearing this- appreciate you sharing.

At 68 my LDL is also 260. All other markers are within parameters. At ideal weight. Low carb diet and hopefully live into my 70s, 80s and beyond.

I'm sorry to hear about that. Maybe another doctor or second opinion would be helpful :)

What if you can’t get these tests? I asked Dr and even went to different lab and I still do not know if I have the small or large ones.
You may be able to get blood work at a local labcorp and have your results sent off to a practice that specializes in this.
Thank you for the info!! I never heard of LPa & APOB.

TYPE 1 diabetes isn't commonly mentioned, why?
Great question! Many of the suggestions we make can apply to type 1 diabetics in regards to nutrition.
