Dr. Ashley Lucas comes to the field of nutrition for weight loss and wellness with a unique background.
Dr. Lucas spent the first 25 years of her life participating in the rigorous training of her professional classical ballet career; constantly devoted to this “passionate pursuit of perfection”. This deeply-rooted “pursuit” was, for her, continuously met with injury and a constant fight with the ballet-specific body type. As a result, she retired from her professional dancing career, understood the importance nutrition played in her own athletic performance, and started along her path to becoming an expert in the field of nutrition and wellness.
Dr. Lucas earned her Ph.D. in Sports Nutrition and Chronic Disease from Virginia Tech and is also a licensed Registered Dietitian.

    I eat it sometimes and sometimes a green juice. It helps me. But I try not to eat it often. I like mini wheats better haha

    If you are preparing your food to any degree it is processed. Processed food includes food you chop, can, boil, or even just freeze. While I agree ULTRA processed foods like candy and chips aren’t great for you, remember that having them once in a blue moon won’t kill your overall healthy diet. Also remember that processed foods aren’t always bad, and it is ok to buy stuff from the store besides Whole Foods. I promise frozen blueberries or deli meats or even the occasional Doritos won’t ruin your diet.

    I & others use the term "everything in moderation" as a healthy diet based on nutrition requirements vs the extreme diets as vegan. Tweaking what's important to one's nutrition like <50g of daily total sugar, that then dropped the carb's down to just below 33%. It doesn't mean eating any junk foods. I always wonder what's meant in many of the other TH-cam influencers. 🙆‍♂️ I wish they would all say the macro %'s & grams to be clear. EX: Studies says 40% is considered low carb but others go as low as 5%. ⚖ Better presentations are needed many times to be clear vs just saying low carb.

    Hi Dr. Ashley, 3 years ago, I went through some stressful times Ended up with anxiety and depression I had to quiet work as a hairstylist 20 years plus. I gradually noticed my weight gain Like you said, my experience in large amounts of stress happened. I'm on antidepressants and anxiety medication I took some blood work to check my insulin levels but have not seen the results This episode rang true to my situation. THANK YOU.

    I have a question. For those of us in our 70s with osteoporosis, are the bone former drugs necessary? Or with the good nutritional changes, adding the amount of protein and weight-training necessary for skeletal muscle support/building, is that sufficient? I'm getting ready to have a dexascan (requested by me) b/c my low back is so stiff upon arising--I'm suspicious that the osteoporosis is advancing. (Hip feels strong.)

    This is so good, and I appreciate your interviewing these wellness experts. A couple of days ago I hiked 3.7 miles -- for me a very arduous up and down hill trail to a waterfall (one of my favorite "feel-good" experiences--I love the beauty, the water spray, the sounds of nature such as the rippling water through the streams). I was talking about the change in my "want-to's" regarding foods (as you two say--a changed palette). This interview confirms everything I've experienced with PhD over the last 3 years. I now know how to adjust, where I can fudge a bit (still with nutritious foods, not with trash food). I am FOREVER grateful, Dr. Ashley, for your journey, research, desire to teach folks like me. Love it, love it!!

    Dr., most people need to cut all the carbs as we age some in their 30’s, some in their 40’s but most definitely after 50 WE should all be going low to 0 carb not just eating “healthy” what ever that means. I’m down to the weight i was when I did the Ironman triathlon 20 years ago without having to train 20 hrs a week just eating OMAD carnivore.

    Dr. Ashley, I am a new subscriber. I am excited to learn from you! My husband has borderline high blood sugar and we were wondering about your product to support glucose metabolism. Is there any chance at all that consuming a supplement like that may slowly cause his own body to work less at glucose control? What are your thoughts on that balance? Also, I am excited to learn from you for my own knowledge. All of my life I have been either slim (as a child and adolescent), or within a very healthy weight as I aged, even having 3 children. Since a couple of years prior to menopause and thereafter I am struggling with weight gain around my belly and lower half of my body. It is very frustrating. Your reminder on weight training is a great one! I have a corporate job that is largely sedentary and high pressure. While I exercise nearly daily, I do think if I evaluate my general routine activities, it has lessened in recent years with Amazon and home delivery for groceries to name a couple. Thanks for the tips on protein intake. I need to work on that, too! :)

    I am 42 years old. I eat pretty healthy (no sweets, no snacks because I just don't like them), never after 6 pm, but I'm gaining weight every month. Almost 30 pounds in a year. I am so sad.

    Should i continue this way of eating if my ldl is in the 400-500 range? Im also having an extremely hard time gaining weight. I can't get abive 160lbs no matter how much I eat, so im EXTREMELY curious about how that is even possible. Even at 6ft tall 4000 calories a day should keep me at a weight higher than 160, shouldn't it?

    I was disappointed in some of the suggestions as you age that peole should not follow. I'm sorry to say. My dad just missed 97 & he lived on his own till the end. He was strong & stayed active till the start of turning 96. He took care of his yard & garden. Walked 3 blocks to get gas ⛽ for the mower vs driving. No high impact work at all in his history, no man made body parts added but not a weed in his yard. Try doing that! At 92 he broke his femur because he was standing on one leg putting on his shoe to go to church. He recovered very well. He lived in a ranch for 50 years & I was thankful when issues came up with the ease of moving around for both my parents. Sorry but a 3 family home is just wrong! I watch these videos to see what I might be missing but the only influencer who has all the boxes checked ✅ off correctly was my dad. Please be careful on your suggestions. I agree that staying active is key but not at high stress levels is not needed. Good luck! 🍀

    hi dr ashley! im so happy you did this thorough video on your product. answers a lot of questions. is this a product that needs to be taken long term? what is the amount of time you would recommend if not long term?

      I’m glad it helped! Great question. A lot of the ingredients you will get benefit from taking it long term. But you could try taking it cyclically as well!
