My goodness am I glad I came across this. Still going through all your videos. Great instructional video as usual. Please do an on the water “skipping” video if skipping is in your wheelhouse. Thanks so much.
This was great! I throw a football jig a lot, and catch many fish on it, so I've stayed away from other jigs. Will definitely look into some of these other ones.
Hey Matt, love the channel and this video was fantastic. One thing I noticed is you use alot of 'chunk' style trailers on you jigs. Is there a reason why or when you use a chunk over say a beaver style trailer? Maybe a follow up video on trailers may be good Thanks
@@MattStefanFishing did they tell you if they plan to make it? The guppy head has landed me some nice Lake Champlain Smallies. I would definitely be willing to give them a try. Keep up the great videos!
Do they make a brush or structure jig? I really like how the dirty jigs brush guard how they ride close to the hook, I hate a jig that the guard is sticking up away from the hook
@Matt Stefan Fishing ok thank enjoy your channel alot like and save all your videos great content always gonna try the finnesse jig with trd this weekend thanks again
And I'll be buying different swimbait heads with gamas let me know if any of your sponsors carry them gonna start using your tackle warehouse link and tell my friend to as well he spends like 20k a year there LOL
Is the “stroking” a jig more of a clear water technique or does it work in dirty water? If so, do you need more bulk and/or more trailer action in dirty water?
On that compact Luke clausen pitching jig, is that a zoom super chunk? And if so is it the jr or standard. Thanks in advance. Sorry just saw someone else asked the same thing.
@Matt Stefan Fishing Where I live we cannot use lead due to the loons potentially ingesting the lead. I can't find if Dirty Jigs use lead or an alloy. I want to order a bunch from TRS.
Matt, do you ever add or subtract skirt material on your jigs based on water clarity? For example, in muddy water? How as bout tannic/tea stained water? In fall of 2019, I was prefishing the Great Pee Dee river here in SC. I was fishing the Bitsy Bug jig and catching quality fish (especially for the river). I couldn’t get bit on a heavier/bigger jig. Water clarity had a nice green color which is as clear as you’ll find that river. 1 week later, had a tournament. Water was much higher, incoming tide and muddy. I couldn’t get bit on the small jig. Went to a full size jig and could only catch 10-11 inch fish. Blew my mind. Since then, I’ve wondered if I had bulked up my skirt, could I have enticed more quality bites since the water was higher and muddy?
Yes i do. I’ve got a video coming out shortly on how i prep my jigs and removing skirt material is part of my process. For clear water I’ll remove up to half a skirt
Are you talking about the Luke Clausen Casting jig? If so, I love that jig for offshore applications. Got a great O'shaugnessy hook, comes through cover well, and is the perfect jig for stroking!
@@MattStefanFishing No, It isn't Luke Clausen. I was wrong. It is Denny Brauer and It is specifically called a structure jig. It has what I would call the archi head shape with a line tie at roughly 180 out front. Looks like it would be good for skipping.
I use a custom MHX NMB-873 rod (7’4” 3 power rod) with an Abu Garcia Revo AL-F high speed reel and 15 lb 100% fluorocarbon. If it’s very clear water i drop down to 10 or 12 lb.
My absolute favorite jig head style is the Arkie ...
Buck tail jigs rock and almost no one you hear talking about anymore .Use many styles myself but buck tail is my favorite all around jigs
very cool! They have a following up here in the north country that's for sure!
Dirty jigs is by far my favorite jigs! They are quality and the colors are awesome! I use pretty much all of those and the swim jigs!
Awesome!
I've used a few of there jigs mainly a finesse jig an there finesse swim jig.
sounds good!
Thanks Matt 😁👍
No problem 👍
Talk about the finesse jig set up etc
yep
Thanks great information about jigs
You bet
I think i might be binge watching your channel to catch up love your information
That’s Matt
Awesome! Thanks for watching. No explosions or girls in bikinis but definitely solid information.
Great tips Matt. I love fishing jigs. Thanks again from Western Kentucky.
no problem
Love the video thanks for breaking it down

I did one not to long ago.
Yes you did. However if we could all study your actual skipping cast “technique”, I’m certain it would be most beneficial.
Andy Montgomery did an excellent one but I firmly believe that you could add much to it.
This was great! I throw a football jig a lot, and catch many fish on it, so I've stayed away from other jigs. Will definitely look into some of these other ones.
Thanks glad you liked it!
This is the info I was looking for! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
My favorite is the LC Finesse, but a close second is the War Eagle Heavy Finesse, 3/8 ! Good work man enjoying your videos 💪🏻🐟
Appreciate it!

I use both types of trailers. I can do a video on it.
Matt great vids! Have you ever talked Dirty Jigs to make your guppy head in an under spin? Love the 3/8 1/0 guppy!
Yes I have
@@MattStefanFishing did they tell you if they plan to make it?

yep. check out the luke clausen compact
Appreciate all the information. Glad you are sharing all your tips.
My pleasure!
Matt what is the difference between a football jig and a swimming jig.
football jig is meant to be dragged and the swim jig is meant to be swam higher in the water column
Great video. Do you have a better hook up ratio with a casting jig vs. football jig? Seems like I do.
casting jig is way better hook up for me
Love the video! The LC Finesse jig has became my go to bait. living up in Sodak. It really does good with all the smallmouth we have here.
It’s a killer smallmouth bait!
Just ordered some LC finesse! Thx for the breakdown!
Anytime!
Great overview! Love all of those you showed. Personally one you didn’t mention that is great in TX, TL Punchin 1oz -Go To.
That’s a good one!
Oil
Just subscribed...what are those trailers
Thankyou
They are the Berkley Meaty Chunk, Berkley Chigger Bug, Berkley Baby Chigger Craw, and berkley pit boss
Can you tell me the difference of a football head dragon in a window with no skirt
Did they change the hooks on your swimbait heads the selling point for me was they had gamas ?
Yes they changed them to VMC and I am no longer with Dirty Jigs so they took my name off of it. Happened back in October
@Matt Stefan Fishing ok thank enjoy your channel alot like and save all your videos great content always gonna try the finnesse jig with trd this weekend thanks again
Good luck with the rest of your tournaments

It’s more clear water. 3ft of visibility or more.
What knot do you use on jig ??
miller knot
On that compact Luke clausen pitching jig, is that a zoom super chunk? And if so is it the jr or standard. Thanks in advance. Sorry just saw someone else asked the same thing.
I use both sizes. For a true compact feel i go with the small size.
Thanks Matt
Matt, what type and size line do you use for the jigs? Secondly, what would you recommend for chatterbaits? Thank you sir.
I use 15 lb Berkley Trilene 100% Fluorocarbon for 90% of my jig and chatterbait fishing
Hey Matt, What is the chunk trailer you are using on those dirty jigs?
Berkley maxscent meaty chunk
@Matt Stefan Fishing Where I live we cannot use lead due to the loons potentially ingesting the lead. I can't find if Dirty Jigs use lead or an alloy. I want to order a bunch from TRS.
They are lead based
@@MattStefanFishing I appreciate the info! Its a bummer I can't use them around here. Push them to make tungsten versions and I'll buy a bunch!

Mat, what do you think of the Luke Clausen structure jigs, and do you think they have an application for catching more and bigger fish?

@@robertstone3417 unfortunately i haven’t tried it but if Denny Brauer designed it I would say it’s a good jig!
