  • Wondering if you can install a Strutmasters conversion kit yourself? Watch veteran mechanic and television host Lou Santiago swap this Lincoln Mark 8 factory suspension for a Strutmasters conversion kit using floor jacks and minimal tools.
Like Lou says in the video, FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS that come with the Strutmasters kit. They will have the very latest information and the best recommended installation procedure.
With more than four decades of experience working on vehicles, Lou Santiago knows a few things about factory air suspension systems. He knows all of those systems have a 100% failure rate due to age and mileage. These systems rely on a series of electronic components to work properly and many of these parts are hard to find or no longer available.
Like thousands of mechanics across the country, Lou recommends converting the leaking rubber air springs (also called air bags) to the exclusive premium steel coil springs in the Strutmasters conversion kit.
As you will see in the video, our products are designed to be simple to install, provide a great ride quality and save customers thousands of dollars versus OE replacement parts. We work on customer vehicles every day to design new products and to stay on top of the latest suspension challenges.
Strutmasters founder Chip Lofton was the first to offer a fully assembled suspension conversion kit when the air suspension failed on his personal Lincoln in 1999. The company is still headquartered in North Carolina, where Lofton leads a team that strives to provide the best products and customer service in the industry. They use premium steel coil springs that are made exclusively for them in America. All of their conversion kits are assembled in small batches by experienced employees to ensure the highest quality.
These electronically-controlled factory suspension systems are very complicated and expensive! A common failure happens when rubber in the system cracks and leaks air -- causing the onboard compressor to eventually fail. This results in an immediate loss of ride height and renders many vehicles undriveable.
Older, high-mileage vehicles will generally require multiple repairs to keep the system working. Lou says don't learn the hard way! Avoid multiple repairs that come with fixing the existing system (especially with cheap, imitation parts).
Take it from veteran mechanic Lou Santiago: Fix It Once, Fix It Right with the original -- Strutmasters!

I appreciate this video very much. I just got my new strut Masters conversion kit for my Lincoln Mark 8 today. directions are good but this video really helps. I am so tired of playing the air suspension game and when it failed on me completely while driving.. the bottom of the car was scraping every irregularity in the road.... You weren't exaggerating by much when you said you would feel every knat in the road. Before I made it home, car finally got hung up on a slight slope on the road where I was stranded for 2 and a half hours while the tow truck could not even figure how to lift the car off the ground . It looked like it melted into the pavement. so thanks for your good product!

I am a huge fan of Lou, but he seems to be calmer than he was on Musclecar. Part of his whole persona is his constant laughter and funny sayings. Notwithstanding I would love to meet the guy. Big hero of mine.

Everything was just as advertised. The naysayers have neglected something. I replaced wheel bearings and all wear that needed to be able to have alignment and be able to consider it a scratch start. The car has 165k and people look and sweat its mint.

removing that lower shock bolt is NOT that easy. i couldn’t get mine to budge. *edit* i ended up removing the upper bolts for the shock in the trunk to drop the rear suspension. i took the rear seat bottom
and back out for earlier access to the bolts, made it pretty simple. so nice to finally have a car that isn’t scraping its ass end on the ground!!

No, Lou does have a lift, per example his own TH-cam channel - th-cam.com/users/Louis1967santiago To this video thought it's a point that you can do such a conversion without a lift. Thank you for your comment.
