Years ago, I got good service from Aria, but none of the 50AE I got from them performed out of a Desert Eagle. Unfortunate... this seems to be the case with many Boutique round makers. I knew something was off when Aria was offering 400gr and 500gr rounds in 50AE. I know what it took for Magnum Research to develop a 350Gr load for Desert Eagles.
I don’t know if it’s the same bullet but Cutting Edge bullets makes a bullet called Raptor bullets. Those bullets are made to segment and the base to continue through. It may be the same bullet.
I think it actually is after I got looking some more. They just completely put the wrong thing in the description, and then loaded it weak as could be.😆

I think I read awhile back they test through a "modest carry length 22" proof barrel". Thanks for sharing, I'll be sticking with my Hornady Critical Duty in my .40. Carried it for over 10 years no need to change now.
I’m an avid reloader I really enjoy it. Those lighter 150-155 grain 40sw pills are easy to load with a little spice to them. I swear I think I got some factory loaded 155 double tap that clears 1300fps with ease out of a g22 like 1325. It was loaded that way on purpose because if it was a malfunction or something they wouldn’t be so consistent. That or the velocity was out of a much longer barrel! Either way enjoyed the video!
Between this & the video with the defective 10mm rounds, my desire to try out Aria is gone. To keep it positive, I will recommend the all copper 40 & 10mm that Double Tap makes. Full power but shoots very smooth.
A .40 150gr advertised at 1225fps...but hardly pushing 1050fps...looks like someone is skimming gunpowder or deriberately missrepresenting their own product..
Below freezing! Those are interesting rounds, for sure. Not sure I'd run them though... So, how do you really feel about these rounds!? lol Keep up the good work!
I bought some 9 in tactical elite years ago. They shot pretty soft. The penetration and fragmentation would work. I think they tell people what they want to hear, and a lot of folks can't handle too much recoil.
Nothing wrong with fragmenting rounds but these fragments didn't penetrate very deep and the base over penetrated meaning a lot of the bullets energy will not go into the target and will go into whatever or whoever is behind it. I'd rather have a fragmenting round with more energy and one that delivers most of the energy to the target not behind it.
@ he said there was a 4 inch pattern out to 5 inches. Obviously more is better, but that seems adequate. As far as over penetration those words don’t exist in my vocabulary so I don’t even know what that part meant ☺️

Correct, and not just for 1 shot. What also (should) count(s)...is recoil (aka; speed and accuracy on follow-up shots). Defensive choices maybe shouldn't only include "POWER!!!"...but also whether or not a person can shoot 6 or 12 shots with any sort of effectiveness. It's too bad we don't get to see that sort of testing. Hunting? yeah - one shot & "give 'er all she's got!!" I really wish ammo companies would be transparent about their test barrels. If you're going to sell defensive ammo for concealed carry, using a 6"-8" barrel just to pump your numbers up is shady.
The Raptor is a segmenting bullet made by Cutting Edge. The bullet performed as Cutting Edge says they will but you're right about the weak velocity. Sometimes it's hard to get high velocity with monolithic bullets because of their pressure spike due to being a hard material.
Interesting. It doesn't perform like advertised but if it was labeled as frangible (maybe segmenting is a better description) it doesn't seem like horrible performance for that type. Never heard of that company before, but I think after watching this, I would pass on it.
I totally agree that their velocity is weak for the weight however the wound cavity doesn't look to shabby. It did some good permanent damage. It's still pretty weak so my money will be spent else where.
I know I'm late to the party, but when you mentioned that the round was called the "Raptor" I figured it used the Cutting Edge Bullets "Raptor" bullet, a segmenting round just like Lehigh's Controlled Fracturing bullets. Everyone seems to have forgotten that solid copper bullets are MUCH LONGER than equivalent weight lead bullets. That's why solid coppers are usually LIGHT for caliber. Guaranteed these bullets are as long as 180-200gr lead bullets, hence the slower speed. Therefore, they performed well if compared to 180gr .40 S&W rounds.
Simply not much room for powder in the short .40 case, with the long solid copper 150 bullet. These would do 1300 in the 10mm, but would just fragment/segment a little wider.
@@ToolsandTargetsit depends what a guy is looking for; yes, low energy, but it fragmented like a 125gr 357, with nice big fragments, and a 100gr base penetrating 20 inches! Sounds pretty good to me lol.

Respectfully, for what it's worth when you compare it to a G2 RIP round it is near the identical just not as much disbursement and the core on those does not go with deep as these
That is some bizarre yet interesting performance. Though it did seem weak. Plus, if this isn't what it was supposed to do, it makes you wonder if they put the wrong bullets in the box. Which makes their quality control look questionable. I'll be steering clear of Aria in any caliber.
Atomic brand ammo does the same - their .44 mag is listed at 1500fps on the box, and wound up at 1100 out of a 5.5 inch barrel...they must be using a rifle to get that. On the flip side, Grizzly ammo hits high box velocities out of regular, common handguns.
I ordered 2 boxes once it took forever so I call they sent me a free box then a week later I got another 3 box idk why mine was 460 Rowland it seemed fine.
Maybe not as advertised. Nonetheless, a good self defense round. Massive initial wound and a penetrating copper slug for vital organs i.e.. heart & lungs.
My guess is these Aria "Raptor" rounds are meant to segment. Copper doesn't consistently fracture at the same place without it being engineered to do so. Thanks again!
😎👊
Must have tested from a 16" barrel. Hi-Point carbine. Thx
💥😎👊💥
Aria must have used a generic brand projectile. I can’t imagine those being Barnes TAC-XP Projectiles. Or XPB.
I mean hell I would rather just stick with plus p 45 HST or gold dot. But I've never been a 40 fan one way or the other
Not the worst round out there.
I like the penetration but there’s many other.40s that stay together at much better velocity. Hard pass from me for sure. Looks like they’ll load with weak sauce regardless of the caliber. Greatest as always good sir 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
Definitely some junky stuff.

Bravo. Go ahead

"It's VEGETARIAN Raptor time". 😂🤣
150 grain .40 moving that slow is almost criminal. maybe they are using a carbine to get 1200fps. that being said I was surprised by the consistent fragmentation pattern and the penetration. If someone took two of those to the chest I think its fair to bet they wont be making it home in time for dinner.
I wish he would’ve pulled and measured the fragments but it looked like 3 of 4 frags
Four from each.
Nah....my .40S&W says "nope".
Big nope.
At first look i was reminded of the infamous "Flying Ashtray"... After the shooting it was confirmed!😂
So Aria has produced .40 S&W with the power and performance of a .38 special. Are they available for sale on Temu? 😂
