    I’m an avid reloader I really enjoy it. Those lighter 150-155 grain 40sw pills are easy to load with a little spice to them. I swear I think I got some factory loaded 155 double tap that clears 1300fps with ease out of a g22 like 1325. It was loaded that way on purpose because if it was a malfunction or something they wouldn’t be so consistent. That or the velocity was out of a much longer barrel! Either way enjoyed the video!

    Good one, Brian! All this work to show us what not to get... sometimes the outcomes are downers, that's all there is to it. I can kind of understand watering down the 10mm (of course, I do *not* approve of it!) But watering down a 40 Short & Weak? Now that makes no sense at all! It's like watering down a .380, you might as well carry a .22 rimfire!
    I am, however, always grateful to you for taking the time to do these tests as I believe it does provide useful info to those of us who can actually make use of the information!

    The Raptor is a segmenting bullet made by Cutting Edge. The bullet performed as Cutting Edge says they will but you're right about the weak velocity. Sometimes it's hard to get high velocity with monolithic bullets because of their pressure spike due to being a hard material.

      Correct, and not just for 1 shot.
      What also (should) count(s)...is recoil (aka; speed and accuracy on follow-up shots).
      Defensive choices maybe shouldn't only include "POWER!!!"...but also whether or not a person can shoot 6 or 12 shots with any sort of effectiveness.
      It's too bad we don't get to see that sort of testing.
      Hunting? yeah - one shot & "give 'er all she's got!!"
      Being attacked by a passel of hogs or a squadron of javelinas, or 3 or 4 "uninvited visitors" shoving their way through the front door? Might want to be able to actually hit something and anticipate more than 1 trigger-pull.

    It seems "Copper Expanders" should all be considered Frag Rounds, copper will not expand to mushroom like Lead does
    With exception in the Extreme Penetrators that have no expansion designed into the effect on fluid mass

  • @johngerich8785
    @johngerich8785 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Everyone seems to have forgotten that solid copper bullets are MUCH LONGER than equivalent weight lead bullets. That's why solid coppers are usually LIGHT for caliber. Guaranteed these bullets are as long as 180-200gr lead bullets, hence the slower speed.
    Therefore, they performed well if compared to 180gr .40 S&W rounds.

    • @johngerich8785

      Simply not much room for powder in the short .40 case, with the long solid copper 150 bullet. These would do 1300 in the 10mm, but would just fragment/segment a little wider.

    My guess is these Aria "Raptor" rounds are meant to segment. Copper doesn't consistently fracture at the same place without it being engineered to do so. If it is not designed to fracture, then Aria has a quality control issue. I'll place my bet on, the rounds are designed or engineered to fragment. Whether Aria knew it or not, is a different question.

    They need to re-label that as low recoil copper fragmenting with deep penetrating core lol! 100 more fps would be nice! 💥💥

    Atomic brand ammo does the same - their .44 mag is listed at 1500fps on the box, and wound up at 1100 out of a 5.5 inch barrel...they must be using a rifle to get that.
    On the flip side, Grizzly ammo hits high box velocities out of regular, common handguns.

    I have a question what is you honest opinion on the glock 48 I have one I actually like it easy to carry and concealment but mine shots about 1 1/2 low and about a 1" to the right I've tried different ammo I would like your thoughts on it and how to solve the sight in anything can change it now this is at 15yd. And 7 yards and help would be appreciated love the videos

    Could this be a case of bad QC?
    Like wrong labeling of the box or something similar?
    Both rounds had the same clean cut on the petals like a segmented round should have.
    Anyways, great video again.

    Maybe not as advertised. Nonetheless, a good self defense round. Massive initial wound and a penetrating copper slug for vital organs i.e.. heart & lungs.

    With a solid copper hollow point bullet that heavy for the diameter, I'm actually surprised that it surpassed 1000fps. The Winchester 155gr Silvertip is rated at 1205fps for an even 500 ft lbs, and that's with a cup and core bullet. A solid copper bullet almost as heavy and at 1225fps? Nope.

    Just an idea. Maybe a series of special penetration tests for things like bear defense. Thick layer of leather jacket (local thrift store variety), piece of hard board over the jelly. Pick a caliber and shoot hardball, hard cast, extreme penetrator, etc. Keep Yogi from having you for lunch jelly time!🐻

    Unless you Must or insist on carrying a Micro or subcompact.

    .40 is dying cuz the industry is killing it. It’s like when the auto industries killed off popular cars like Pontiacs and shrunk models like the Bronco and the Blazer. It’s about telling the market what it wants to maximize profits, not listening to owners. Sucks.

    So to get the advertised muzzle velocity, based on what you tested, they would have had to use a 10” barrel. Isnt that a carbine? Craptastic performance. If someone even gave me a box of this, I’d pull the copper out and recycle it.

  • @gsmith4295
    @gsmith4295 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

    150 grain .40 moving that slow is almost criminal. maybe they are using a carbine to get 1200fps. that being said I was surprised by the consistent fragmentation pattern and the penetration. If someone took two of those to the chest I think its fair to bet they wont be making it home in time for dinner.

    Can someone please explain why these solid core fragmenting type of projectiles are "pathetic" or "perform awful" and why they get a bad reputation? They look like they would do devastating damage to me.. They have massive initial cavitation and expansion, plus the benefit of a solid core for penetration. Seems like a nice combo 🤷🏼‍♂️ I would love to see how they perform on an actual carcass of some sort instead of typical gel..
