It seems among Vampires there are two kinds of “higher vampires.” The Novigrad serial killer claimed to be a higher, but once he is killed he doesn’t regenerate and fully die. So he isn’t biologically a true higher vampire, but he shows intelligence similar to a human like an actual higher. So I guess the two “higher vampires” are like 1. Those who shown human intelligence but can be killed normally. 2. Those who shown human intelligence but can regenerate from lethal wounds and only can be killed by another higher vampire
Dean Heng - Higher vampires can’t be “killed” by ordinary means, but the books established the following... That they can be rendered inert if sufficiently injured. Regis was “killed” by villagers thanks to his intoxication with human blood. He spent 50 years in the ground before he regenerated to the point that he could leave the grave. Regis was again “killed” in the final book when Vilgefortz collapsed a pile of rubble upon him and essentially used magic to melt it into slag. This would likely have kept Regis from ever regenerating had Dettlaff not arrived and did what he did to restore Regis. So, maybe Orianna and the coroner in Novigrad are higher vampires, and would eventually reappear once they’ve had enough time to regenerate. Likewise, if you damaged a higher vampire enough, while they would not truly be “dead,” they would be rendered harmless indefinitely.
Who needs to “read” a beastiary this play through?? Imma slide onto TH-cam and get George here to chat to me about how to slay my beasts! Like an Ebook, beastiary version Love all your videos mate, great work🙏🏼

After talking to her she disappeared and i went the treasure ... as soon as I was done with the treasure BOOM KILLED!! What a fun experience! Lmao!
I seem to remember randomly encountering Bruxae during the Blood and Wine DLC, either before or after Dettlaff's invasion. It's been a while... but I distinctly remember randomly talking to the women wearing hoods/cloaks only to hear a shrill giggle, the cloak falling to the ground and then a fight. It may be a rare encounter, but I distinctly remember it and being caught completely off guard. In fact, that makes me think it was before the invasion as I had no idea what it was at the time.
Yep it was before Night of The Fangs mission. Theres a few of those women that are constantly walking around the town (might only be during night) and you can encounter them in the wilds across the map. I think its only a chance of them revealing themselves when you talk to them cause it only happened to me a couple times out of all of the hooded when I spoke too. The one that surprised me the most was the woman that ambushed me at an old abandoned castle while I was looking for Witcher Diagrams. I figured she was going to give me a quest or something.
I think Orianna is a "sophisticated" Bruxa, in the same vein that the Coroner is a more sophisticated Katakan. Higher Vampires to someone hunting them (like a witcher) most likely means something akin to the vampire having at least human levels of intelligence, the ability to reason, and possibly even blend in with normal humans, whereas "lesser" vampires are essentially just beasts with vampiric features. It would make sense for witchers to classify them this way, as it makes a huge difference in fighting them. Fighting something that runs on animal instinct is very different from fighting something with the ability to ambush, reason, and make calculated attacks. True Higher Vampires being a distinct race might not even be widely known among non-vampires, as they are 1) exceedingly rare 2) extremely difficult to detect unless they reveal themselves voluntarily and 3) an all around secretive people. So it's possible the confusion stems from the fact that a lot of monster-hunters, witchers etc. can't really know the inherent differences between say a highly advanced Bruxa or Katakan because vampires themselves make a point of not revealing it. After all, a Bruxa taken for a (more powerful) True Higher Vampire is not gonna correct that mistake, since it likely means less people willing to hunt her, and True Higher Vampires have no reason to correct the confusion themselves - why give humans an advantage hunting their kin? I think vampires don't make as much of a "class distinction" among themselves, as long as the other vampire is able to reason and communicate. Dettlaff especially is said to prefer "lesser" vampire kin to the company of humans. And it would make sense for a people who have effectively been exiled from their homeworld to share more of a bond with others of their kind, even if they're not exactly the same species of vampire. In short, I don't think it's contradictory for Orianna to be a highly sophisticated Bruxa as opposed to a True Higher Vampire. Pretty sure personality matters more to someone like Regis than something as superficial as race or class anyway.

For all we know, they (Oriana and the doctor) could have been taking pity on Geralt for getting involved, using a “lesser” form instead of their higher.
The info I got regarding them being higher vampires in a classification sense is from the 'world of the witcher' book made by cdprojektred. Personally I believe they included that info in their own personal lore to make up for that mistake, but regardless it certainly adds more layers to vampires as a whole!
Nah, I'm pretty sure she's a Bruxa. You can see Geralt fighting her in the trailer for the expansion pack: we hear her sing and see her face before they get into a fight. Also, her hair is identical. That isn't to say that the ingame story didnt strongly insinuate that she was a Higher Vampire. It did.

Yo you should do a Fairytale comparisons and parallels within the Witcher. Like the Last Wish story with the Bruxa and Nivellen is basically Beauty and the Beast
I’ve always felt Orianna was a higher vampire. She seems too similar to Regis and Detlaff is to not be truly higher. She also leads you to the unseen elder, and I’ve always thought only a higher vampire could contact him.
That's why it's all so confusing aha, perhaps she's simply a lot older than them, we know vampires seem to work on an age based society similar to our own!
I remember the Bruxa fight for the first time. I was a purely melee only build (It was my first playthrough, before I learnt about the power of signs and the alchemy trees) and it was pure pain. First time I defeated it I abused AoE Aard (It knocked it out of invisibility and allowed me to get up close) and now I've played the game that much I find it one of the easier fights now I know its counters.
My exploding quen manual shield build with the knock back and reflect effect really gave these ladies a lot if trouble when fighting me lol. Just waited for them to attack and release on em then get several hits in.
Fun fact: when rodents chatter their teeth, that's called "bruxing" (it's cute) Unrelated fun fact: the above fun fact kinda kills the fear factor for the name of this species of vampire for me
So she makes you dream to feed from you, and if she is nice, she will leave you alive. They are basically higher vampires but less weaker, But with more age they become nearly as powerful as the higher Vamps. Very interesting intelegent creature and i loved seeing it in the Witcher season 2.
in the witcher every monster is it's own study wich really adds to the game preparing for your enemy while undertanding the lore behind them makes the game much more immersive and of course much more fun (the witcher 3 is a masterpiece) . . . . great video
Wait, wait... I thought "post-conjunction" creatures denoted the creatures that came into being after the conjunction mixed things up, but were not originally in the other world either? A mixed breed of some sort from the chaos of the conjunction.
I love fighting bruxa. Casting yrden and then knocking them into the circle with aard so that you can get the instant kill without them escaping is challenging and rewarding.
I really get confused with the whole "higher vampire/Higher Vampire." Perhaps the Higher Vampires such as Dettlaff and Regis begin as the generic "higher vampire" and evolve into true "Higher Vampires" with age. That might explain how it is mentioned in B&W that Higher Vampires don't all have identical powers. Some tend to gather covens, some have higher abilities to alter themselves into swarms of bats or birds...their attributes seem to vary. While Regis and Dettlaff have near equal strength, they don't react identically. The last fact regarding Orianna being a true "Higher Vampire" is that she knows of the existence and whereabouts of the Elder Vampire. While all vampires seem to know about him and defer to him, I doubt most would know his actual whereabouts. While Regis knows about the Elder, he tells Geralt that he must learn of his whereabouts from Orianna. Whether this infers that Regis doesn't know the Elder's exact whereabouts or that he is totally unwilling to share it is unclear. If Orianna is truly a Bruxa, she is beyond the normal Bruxae because she lives completely openly among the society of Toussaint. Indeed, she is a major figure in that society. The other Bruxae encountered in B&W are rather more hidden. They're out there as cloaked women...indeed walking the streets you run into them constantly. Hard to imagine the citizens of Toussaint seem quite ignorant of a group of creatures that literally infest their cities and the province as a whole, along with other forms of vampires. For a society steeped in fairy tale legends, it seems odd they know so little about the vampires.
Meanwhile, while George was thanking patrons and viewers i was wondering around the comment section when suddenly, that magical Orianna song finished this masterpiece off.... Well done buddy, you sure know how to win the audience... (Also Orianna is a Higher Vampire, her 'Aura' in the game is clearly saying 'dont f***k with me)
Thank you for this man. Fun fact I made and uploaded the entire video but then realised I committed the crime of not including lullaby of woe in a bruxa video, so I thought I'd make a special effort for there to be an eerie ending for those of you that stuck around!
The first time I battle a bruxa, which was in the 2, I was petrified just because something like that should not have claws that long a that sharp and also doing that much damage and moving that fast...I died many time.
I will give the Witcher a run before cyberpunk 2077, I was giving it a go but got so far as to Ciri's escape from novigrad, that was 6 months ago so I have to start over again.
To this day I don't understand the higher vampire in that quest with the morgue doctor. I mean he seemed more like an ordinary vamp, who can swap shapes. But still the bestiary shows him a hogher, whitch means he's not really dead, since now we know higher vampires can't be killed permanently by anyone except members of the same species.
I don't know about anybody else i consider vampire like Detlaff and Regus as Alpha or True High Vampires and Katakans/Bruxa as Beta or False High Vampires

The info I got regarding them being higher vampires in a classification sense is from the 'world of the witcher' book made by cdprojektred. Personally I believe they included that info in their own personal lore to make up for that mistake, but regardless it certainly adds more layers to vampires as a whole!
WitcherGeorge
At least they got vampires right, if not better than she who shall not be named
Nah, I'm pretty sure she's a Bruxa. You can see Geralt fighting her in the trailer for the expansion pack: we hear her sing and see her face before they get into a fight. Also, her hair is identical.
That isn't to say that the ingame story didnt strongly insinuate that she was a Higher Vampire. It did.
She is as much of a higher vampire as bloody baron is a baron.
One of the CDPR developer have already confirmed Oriana is an higher vampire
Screams loud, emaciated and super long fingers/claws. I'm getting Left 4 Dead nightmares again.
Great Vid! I'm a recent fan and am liking the vids! They're helping expand my understanding of the world in things I dont know much about, such as the school of the bear and things like that
Great video George! Would you consider making a "Witcher Vampires: Alp" soon? I am very interested in them as well, as they are considered to be even more dangerous than their cousins, Bruxas.
Can't wait for Cyberpunk lore. 😌
Booooo i want witcher online
Hoss Delgado gross that sounds like the worst idea for a game spin off I’ve probably ever heard:/
Hoss Delgado that sounds so dumb.
@@secredeath no please no
I dont wanna dissapoint you
You're doing something right because I got Gwent ad on this videoXD
Bruxa let me introduce you to The Morning Star a.k.a The Vampire Killer.
You would scar them for "life" if they saw the morning star in action 😂
@@hidan407 yeah just a tiny scratch or bruise from it. And the vampire and anythin allied related. To them gets turned into a live hand grenade.
@@ashwolf2006 honestly, if they had a secret weapon called the morning star in witcher 3, I swear I would do the entire story using that weapon only and playing bloody tears durimg every boss battle 😂
ok... good.. time to play my 28 walktrough
That woman at the front of the shack scared the shit out of me. I was searching the dead man and when I turned to her it immediately turned into bruxa. That's a real jumpscare. We had the same thoughts about Orianna, she's definitely not a true higher vampire but a very old bruxa.
I got spooked out from the Bruxa in some ruins on a hill when I was searching for Witcher diagrams. Absolutely nobody there, picked up the diagrams and turned around to go on my way and this hooded figure walks past me and went invisible ready to attack me. Gave me a jump scare because she appeared outta nowhere
My first encounter with a Bruxa was probably my favorite fight in Wild Hunt.
Damn, i hated that fight, that bitch was killing me in 2 hits and got invisible every Time i delivers a hit.
Olgierd and Detlaff were probably my favourite bosses along with Care taker.
I remember listening to the audio Book of the witcher series.
When the narrator says:
"She's a Bruxa!"
It gave my spine chills.
When you know about them, hearing that line is definitely a red flag aha
You should’ve included the differences between alps and bruxas since they’re so similar.
Bruxae is the plural term
Hey there, I don't know if you already made a video about it. But could you make a video about the pogrom that destroyed Kaer Morhen? I think that would make for an excellent video. Love you work, keep making it and I will keep watching it! :)
Hey there! Love your video’s
Keep up the good work
Could you one day make a video about Phillipe Eilhart, and how come sorceress became hated by the Redenians? I didn’t played W2 and I feel like I’m missing something in the story the first time I entered Novigrad
Also there are almost no lore videos about Phillipa on TH-cam!
Witcher 3 is part of my life
Even outside its genre, many agree that TW3 is the greatest video game to date.
@@HalfBreedMix yes
Yo you should do a Fairytale comparisons and parallels within the Witcher. Like the Last Wish story with the Bruxa and Nivellen is basically Beauty and the Beast
I’ve always felt Orianna was a higher vampire. She seems too similar to Regis and Detlaff is to not be truly higher. She also leads you to the unseen elder, and I’ve always thought only a higher vampire could contact him.
That's why it's all so confusing aha, perhaps she's simply a lot older than them, we know vampires seem to work on an age based society similar to our own!
The fight with the cintrian at the party also leads credence to this. No marks and defeats him nonchalantly
Geralt killing her in the trailer disproves this.
Also her body burned in the sun light, which doesn't happen to higher vampires
The_Drop Bear I feel that the trailer wasn’t cannon to the game as it shows Geralt killing her (which obviously doesn’t happen).
@@be9716 after finding out about the orphanage he says he will come back for her
Love the lore videos, keep em coming mate!
Been waiting for this 😭❤ Thanks bruh
Fun fact: when rodents chatter their teeth, that's called "bruxing" (it's cute)
Unrelated fun fact: the above fun fact kinda kills the fear factor for the name of this species of vampire for me
TY for your extra work.
So she makes you dream to feed from you, and if she is nice, she will leave you alive.
They are basically higher vampires but less weaker, But with more age they become nearly as powerful as the higher Vamps.
Very interesting intelegent creature and i loved seeing it in the Witcher season 2.
Thank you for your hard work in these videos
Like before watching then enjoy
Appreciate it mate
George the hero we didnt know we needed.
in the witcher every monster is it's own study wich really adds to the game preparing for your enemy while undertanding the lore behind them makes the game much more immersive and of course much more fun (the witcher 3 is a masterpiece)

Nice editing, dude. Well done.
Revisiting this after season 2
Twas a shame by the end of Blood and Wine you couldnt find and kill more Bruxa. I enjoyed finding, fighting and killing them.
Sure,,,,,,,,,,,,,, yup, that was the reason alright ;-)
The Bruxa where always a cool story my favorite next too the Ekimaras. As always you do great work congrats.
@@WitcherGeorge And eerie it was... Dude you made me scroll up again screaming inside me ''ORIANNA' like a kid who is about to get candy LOL
Awesome video man!! Keep them coming
I'd like to see a video on the Alps but I suspect there's not much difference between them and the Bruxas besides appearance.
They could just become an assassin for hire so they could kill and also feed on their pray without people knowing.
I love your series. Keep up the good work.
The first time I battle a bruxa, which was in the 2, I was petrified just because something like that should not have claws that long a that sharp and also doing that much damage and moving that fast...I died many time.
Orianna ❤️
Interesting, always thought vampires become higher the longer they live.
Yrden is the best sign to use against Bruxae and Alps because it slows them down and negates their invisibility.
Great video. Liked and subbed. Well done xx
Weren't there some Bruxae in the first Witcher game as well? I vaguely remember a brothel/vampire den that was led by one...
I really loved the video. But why did they more or less do away with the Bruxas? I find them fascinating!
I will give the Witcher a run before cyberpunk 2077, I was giving it a go but got so far as to Ciri's escape from novigrad, that was 6 months ago so I have to start over again.
Please make a video lore on trolls thank you from Norway
To this day I don't understand the higher vampire in that quest with the morgue doctor. I mean he seemed more like an ordinary vamp, who can swap shapes. But still the bestiary shows him a hogher, whitch means he's not really dead, since now we know higher vampires can't be killed permanently by anyone except members of the same species.
Not gonna lie, re living the moments with Netflix series.
At this pace you won't be able to complete witcher 3 goty before cyberpunk 2077 releases.
Please do regular uploads
Amazing as always !
The ones like Regis are called High Vampires that's the thing
IKR? It's not as hard as people seem to make it : Lesser
I'm only commenting because I feel like I'm around my ppl rite now!
not only speed and invisibility but also defence system like shield, attributes only higher vampire like Detlaff posses..
Very interesting and informative
Bruxa has the best Yelp rating in ln low class vamps
Has kinda the same vibe as beeing the smartest special ED xD
Brilliant video! And perfect timing ;) I just started a new Blood and Wine playthrough. ^_^
Grain if truth, my favourite story xD
"Hmmm, times past ... no amount of gold could persuade a Witcher to take this contract!"
Wouldn't it be Bruxae when talking about more than one
Yeah
Keep up the good work
I don't know about anybody else i consider vampire like Detlaff and Regus as Alpha or True High Vampires and Katakans/Bruxa as Beta or False High Vampires
Same, though i classify them as "greater" (regis and detlaff for example) or "lesser" (bruxae, katakans, etc) higher vampires
That scream made my irl ears ring. The volume was low.
That’s the last time I talk to lone strangers in castle ruins
Do a video on the School of the Snail!
The strongest school.
"Remember there's higher vampires, and there's HIGHER vampires..."
"Oh,...which one are you then?"
"Well I just finished the last of Snoop Dogg's blood so..."
Quick question. How come Regis didn't sense the incoming vampire attack on Beauclair?
Bruxa goes invisible? Don't panic! Aard sweep spam!
Can you make lore about who is the first witcher? And what is the motive behind witcher creation in their universe.
Steven Pram no one knows who the first Witcher was, and witchers were created to kill monsters
Dude most of the monsters in Witcher 3 kicks my ass I am Shure that monster will mess me up lol
Regis is the man!
