    I was just told about slugging by a young co-worker (my daughter's age) last week. I had never heard of it. I've been doing it every night now and is my skin ever soft! I thought for sure the first morning I'd wake up with pimples. Nope. I've used Vaseline overnight on my lips before and I'd wake up with them nice and plump.

    Hi Doctor Dan -
    I hope you’re having a great day ! Your skin looks amazing as always :)
    So happy to hear your review / kudos to Kiehls… my former boyfriend used the men’s line and when we lived together I used his products one day when I was out of my skin care and I fell in love instantly with the way they all felt on my skin so I used them intermittently but I saw such great results I just kept using his almost exclusively- we’re no longer together and I don’t have the luxury of skincare product sharing- however, when I was visiting my daughter and son-in-law in Palm Springs last year, I stopped in the Kiehls boutique in downtown PS and just fell in love with the line all over again I bought the moisturizer that you reviewed in this video or used in this video as well as the Midnight recovery moisturizer and the Crème de Corps nourishing body oil in the travel size spray is amazing ! I also discovered and love their hair care line - the shampoo and conditioner are wonderful and nourishing and smell amazing- also the eye balm for puffiness is instantly cooling / soothing and amazing. I truly love Kiehls and I love that when you visit particularly the boutiques they are so generous with samples. Anyway I know this video is about slugging but I so 💙 Khiel’s.

    This method, specifically with Aquaphor or Vaseline has been AMAZING for my very dry, sensitive skin. My skin is easily irritated, tends to be flaky/dry on the brow, forehead and nose area. This extra step of occlusive ointment is the only thing that makes my face feel normal. No flakes...no irritation...it's great. Just have to endure the initial greasiness. Also I've found that avoiding harsh cleansers and sticking to something moisturizing like Vanicream or Cerave hydrating cleanser has also helped a LOT.

    Great information. I guess if this is called ‘slugging’, I have been doing this off and on for years. I use it all over my face, neck, on dry feet with socks, on hands with socks, on eyelashes, and specifically on lips come winter. As a child, my mom would slather a thin layer on our faces before we went out in the cold, each winter. Vaseline is pretty wonderful and decently cheap to buy.

    enjoy the video - i grew up with the tub of vaseline and used it on my boys as a barrier cream. still use it. i like aquaphor too - a little pricier in canada and i dont think ive ever seen the cerave healing ointment here in Vancouver.

    • @meaganmackenzie5068
      @meaganmackenzie5068 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fellow Canadian here! Unfortunately, Cerave healing ointment isn't offered in Cerave's Canadian product line. I agree, Aquaphor can be pricier, but I always snag some when they're on sale. Larger quantities are cheaper per unit as well (although I prefer to get the small 50g squeeze tubes as each one lasts me a long time).

    Thank you for this level of detail, Dr. Sugai!! One thing I have seen some sites say is that slugging can cause oily skin to become even oilier -- not just trap the oil in, but cause even more sebum production. Is this true? (I have a very oily t-zone that nothing seems to be able to reduce, although just very occasional acne)

    Slugging was a huge trend on r/skincare addiction like 5-6 years ago. As a tret 0.1% user I’m super prone to wind burn when skiing so slugging gets me back to normal in 1-2 days after a cold ski day.

    • @meaganmackenzie5068

    The thing about slugging, is I really believe this WASN’T started by Korean skin care. Many African Americans have used this technique for many, many decades, way before Korean skincare trends and popularity.

    Haven't had active ezcema for decades. Am very careful what is applied on my skin; also laundry detergent. NOT CLEAR what you were saying about eczema?? I use bakuchiol sometimes. I LOVE a glow within look if I can get it to my dull skin, especially going out wearing BBcream or foundation. So, "slugging" very much interests me. TYVM

    I've started to worry now. I've been using tretinoin 0.05% every second night for 15 years and it's amazing. I always put it straight onto damp skin, followed by Avene Hydrance Riche. In the past couple of years, with hitting 50, I discovered Cerave and it's now tretinoin on damp skin, Cerave Moisturizing cream for dry to very dry, and a pretty thick layer of Cerave Healing Ointment. But you said the ointment could leave the tretinoin absorbing too much. If my skin feels good, do I need to worry?

    Why does tretinoin make skin of some patients oily? Not just glowy, but greasy. I couldn’t have enough blotting papers to get rid of that oil. Seems quite a common problem because many people report it on Reddit. I haven’t found any plausible explanation for this.

      @@apurplevelveteen what is bag balm, if you don’t mind my asking? I have never heard of it before. Thank you so much.

      @@jackiefox7224 I'm copy and pasting an answer to this. :) "While Bag Balm does contain Vaseline, it also contains lanolin, which is a wax produced by the sebaceous glands of sheep. Additionally, it contains petrolatum, which is a type of paraffin and is used to protect the skin." Bag Balm was originally developed in the late 1890s so farmers had something to use to soothe cow udders that would get raw and chapped from giving milk to their baby calves.

      If you have sensitive skin, I would not advise but it can be done with the thinnest layer of petrolatum if your skin is not sensitive 👍
