I feel special. My 2015 did develop a gas tank leak - just a drip, drip, drip, but not repairable, so had to replace. I'm only at 150k miles (maybe putting 40k to 50k miles per year on it) and I've done brakes once (125k), vehicle battery once (150k), gas tank once (80k), LED headlights (80k), 3 radiators (104k & 138k - 2 developed leaks, on my 3rd), transmission fluid leak (129k happened when service due, so no big deal), and I have a slow loss of coolant (maybe a cup or 2 added every 5k miles). So far no Tick & no oil cooler problem. Oh yeah, my marker lights have stopped working (150k happened once before and then they came back). On 3rd set of tires (62k & 150k), but got 88,500 miles on 2nd set, so got the same tire (Firestone Transforce HT2) for 3rd set. 100% agree that finding a local mechanic that will work on Promasters MUCH BETTER than the dealer. Or take it to Kip if you can get it there! Very happy with the durability. I get oil changed every 5k, but really feel like it has been a very low maintenance vehicle even though this list looks long - all pretty straightforward repairs.
Excellent. I'm not a fan of the Transforce. They are fine on the rear and last forever, but I found them noisy, slippy, and just not great on the front. If it's apples to apples, I prefer the Mastercraft Courser on the fronts.
Obviously, not much love or TLC has ever been given to your van, and remarkably it's still basically rust free and trucking along. Good to know. Wish you would have went into a little more detail into some of the more serious repairs, but thumbs up regardless.
Rear door “open” indicator - fairly new 2022, keeps saying the door is “open” unless right rear door is slammed shut HARD… any tips to avoid the open door indicator? Is the door really “open”? It seems shut even when it indicates so, but then again, if shut hard it knows it’s closed… ideas? Tips? Thanks you 🙏
Can't remember if the rear sensor is in the top latch, or in the passenger side door latch. But it's going to be an adjustment of one or the other. Should still be warranty, no?
That's a new one. We don't see many vans that new. Best guess is it's either the button itself, or more likely some issue with the key fob where it's not recognizing the key. But it should be relatively simple.
@@Think1st-m9r very very few head gasket issues. In fact, zero head gasket issues - any issue is CAUSED by overheat. My guess is the jeep cooling system is pushed harder than the van.
@@mythicalnomadadventure969 I found some on Amazon that didn’t require any adapter and direct mounting. That particular brand shows unavailable. I think the issue is none of these are DOT rated as headlamps but never had any one flashing as if my high beams were on and actually still not as bright as my wrangler stock LED lights. I highly recommend getting some if you can find them.
My friend is getting a tow of his 2019 premaster 2500 from Toledo. Bolt cant get it started and it sat for 1 year. If Conrads doesnt have time can you check it out please? Do you recommend that ALL fuel be emptied? I wanted to see if you can bring in the tow but i dont have a car or friend that can take me to Columbus. Thoughts?

If you only change the engine once then they are lasting over 400,000 miles. What routine maintenance do you do to help them last that long? I have a 19 that I have converted and it is now my home. Two of them are mine. They are teenagers now. We find engines seems to get to mid 500k range and then get a little weak. The engine in this went to around 617k and was still running ok, but it was convenient to replace it. There is shockingly little you need to do to get to high miles. Regular oil changes, address the Pentastar Tick if it comes up (yours may not, but expect it around 110k) and when the oil cooler leaks replace it with the Dorman aluminum one (not a chinese counterfiet, a real deal Dorman). Trans service every 60k or so. Other than that, fix stuff when it breaks but you shouldn't really expect any engine trouble.
Looking in the manual for the dildo fuse, not finding it. I think the real headline here is that a 62TE made it over 800K, that is amazing. How often do you change the trans fluid?
I'm in Akron Ohio, but I'm always burried in work. Your 2022 has the 9 speed transmission, which is lifetime fluid and filter and does not specifically need anything. If you go to a dealer, they will turn you away most likely. You can't change the filter, but you can drain and fill the fluid but it something that requires a scanner and not really a DIY thing. However, any shop that works on Chryslers can do it for you. If it were me, I'd dip the fluid and if it looks more or less okay, I'd leave it alone. High miles like you are driving is actually easier on transmissions and fluid than lots of shorts trips, and I'd be your fluid is in good condition.
My van, a 2014 159 3500 with just over 300k miles got the Penastar tick about a year and a half ago. I just recently got back from a 2 week, 6000 mile trip running from New Hampshire to California going over the Rockies on the way there, then along rt 66 back home through the desert heat. My tick was very loud. Going through a drive through the echo off the building always made me think the engine was going to go at any second it was so loud. When I got back from my trip though, the tick is gone. Is that normal for the tick to just stop after a year and a half? Was it a bent lifter that just decided to bend back after all this time or did something let loose and my engine is about to blow? Ever heard of such a thing?
@@deanhagstrom6667 Even slight wiping of the cam lobe by the rocker will first result in a misfire code, because you are right - 1 intake valve vs 2 or 1 exhaust valve vs 2 will affect compression/combustion. The noise is caused by that space where the cam lobe should be. But cam lobes aren't going to heal themselves, but a stuck lifter will result in the same noise but possibly unstick itself. Dude didn't mention a code, hence I think lifter.

Definitely a scruffy van. But still going strong. Not maintenance, free, lots of nickel and 5 dollar stuff. In short, routine shop visits for subsystems, consumable and routine stuff. But the wheels haven’t fallen off yet and the body is still solid. So it keeps on rolling. And rolling. And rolling. The beater of beater vans. Ol’ shabby just keeps going and going and going. Probably the only thing that will send this van to the bone yard is a hard crash.

What about the fuel pump. I guess since it has a sweet access door it will never fail.

Spec is every 60k. Gotta admit, I probably did it on this van maybe every 250k. Busy, lazy.

@@poetknowitt2 my guess is that there was a stuck lifter that unstuck itself. Take the win, sacrifice a goat, and move on.

Lifter wears camshaft lobe away and then valve is not actuated. You now have 3 valves on a few cylinders.
