I bought 2pk of MAF and throttle body cleaner at sometime in past so BAM she's clean. I haven't done MAF on this truck since I've had it but I'll do it after I check out the upcoming vid.
I just picked up a 2017 TRD Sport and I subbed and I'm binge watching these videos to make sure I run over the basic maintenance stuff that could bite me from buying a used car. I've also started a list on Amazon for the various mods from your mod video that interested me. One thing I'm definitely getting are those Redline hood struts because that hood is heavy and I'm lazy.
I used to disconnect the electrical connector to the throttle body on my 98 ford ranger. Disconnecting the battery accomplishes the same thing only easier and I was always frightened I was going to break that connector every time I removed it. Nice video. Looking forward to the MAF sensor cleaning video and the addition of both events to the maintenance tracker map.
@@jamesmiller384 our reasoning here is we want the truck to forget the “closed position” as it will change on some very dirty butterfly valves. But I hear ya! Plugging battery back in then has the truck relearn the new and back to original closed position 😎
Did mine for the first time at 150k miles (15 years).... cleaned the mass airflow sensor as well. The truck was gassing it anytime i let my foot off the brake, few times got close to hitting a car in front of me at a stop cause it was nearly flooring it when I let off the brake pedal. After a week of driving it seems to have relearned the throttle positions.
Thank you for making such a clear and easy to understand video. I’m very new to these things so I’m wondering, why do you need to disconnect the battery?
That's what we're here for! In short, it protects the delicate throttle body butterfly valve motor, and won't bother the ECU when we manually open it. Also just a good practice anytime you're working on anything related to the electrical on the truck, prevents a lot of mistakes from happening when you have live vs dead conductors. -Austin
Brooooo, that thing was open about a quarter of an inch??? Idk lol before i cleaned it. Thank you soo much 🙌🏾 definitely feels smoother to the acceleration and when i would shut the truck off it would like vibrate kinda weird but its gone now completely
Glad you did the video. I guess if you wanted to go a step further you could take the throttle body off and clean the back side. You will, however, need to replace the gasket.
@@galahomes11 I've seen the job done both ways. As far as disconnecting the electric to begin with, I'm thinking the idea is you don't want electricity running to the throttle body since when you move the butterfly the movement turns the internal gears connected to the electric connection, and or the cleaning solution might be a conductor of electricity. I guess it's to be on the ultra safe side.
@@vario2664 Makes total sense. Thank you. I took the opportunity while the terminals were disconnected and cleaned the battery and box. Love this channel
Great video Team Oil Drop. By any chance, is it possible to remove the entire throttle assembly without removing the module that's attached on the side to thoroughly clean the throttle? By any chance, are you going to put up a video on how to install a catch can to reduce the oil build up? Thanks and have a great day.
@@Iamde4dinside the mechanism on the side is riveted on so not going anywhere. As for removing the entire TB… you could… but I would consider that unnecessary as these aren’t very common failure points. I know a catch can is in the not so distant future. Bro, just a tip - I wouldn't touch the plate to manually open throttle. Those gears inside are fragile and you run the risk of breaking them or misaligned them.
