My dude, you have basically created an imperial guard army for Fantasy... Seriously though, great list and I love state troops, they just look so solid and have such brilliant thematic resonance. If you wanted a theme, you could say this was an army of mercenaries or freelancers from Nuln employed by the Elector Count of Averland, hence all the engineers, artillery, steam tank and yellow colouring
I was gonna say to drop the mortar since I used two and the pair only managed to bonk 5 lizards the whole game with the direct hit str. But I just realized I was using the 3" template instead . Large blast might actually not be bad since I was struggling with the partial hit rolls, but depends on the matchup meta after hearing ppl might take more elite or msu units. I think the key (and imho essential) strat for mortars is you have to take a wizard that can hex the target at -1 T. At S6 and getting the -1T hex makes it the most flexible gun also being able to threaten large monsters. I will have to give them another shot. 95pts for a large blast could be interesting to make essentially howitzer batteries that you can aim to attrite the opponent. ADDITIONALLY I double checked and you have to fire directly with the mortar. The 'bombardment' keyword does not give the mortar indirect which you mentioned briefly.
I really need to get my old world stuff put together. I got a load of spears and handguners, and milita/swordsmen, with some artillery. Bought it 8 years ago and have only put together about 500 points worth. Been living in storage ever since. Never played a single game.
I love this kind of videos! Need more!! As always, thanks for the vid. I would have changed the mortar for another unit that can move or shoot. Maybe some gunners or outriders
I like how ypu are really putting the generic Empire army to the test. Loads of state troops and tons of warmachines for fire power. Obviously there are other iconic units not included but in the end this is how the empire gets the job done.
That's very similar to my army, even the same warmachine models from Highlands/lastsword miniatures, they are awesome! Good luck! I use 30 spearmen veterans with a 15 spearmen detachment and 10 crossbows detachment. I think you should look at Sigmar priests, they are very good in infantry bricks. I personally prefer archlector or priest over a general. except for the steamtank I am missing hammer units in your list, it's basically just anvils. Inner circle knights, demigryphons, greatswords, something like that.
I am currently undefeated with my Empire army. I’ve only played three games with them but so far the games haven’t even been close. Three absolute crushing victories in a row. I think the people that believe Empire are trash are just too used to playing stronger infantry armies and don’t understand how gunpowder works.

Strange women lying in ponds is no basis for a system of government! Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony. You can’t expect to wield supreme executive power just ’cause some watery tart threw a sword at you! I mean, if I went around saying I was an emperor just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they’d put me away!
Brother. Slap a Grenade Launching Bluderbuss on the engineers. BS4 is decent, playing a gun line they will come to you. STR 4 AP-2 (base) then can literally kill 2 knights in one shot. Its mandatory on my engineers. Insanely high EV on 10pts. Keep HOLDING THE LINE my G 👊
Very brave. Although I like at least some Cav. Also missing skirmishers. I do understand your anvil-ideas, but where are the hammers ? Cannons can't shoot into combat. But you have surely more experience with your troops. I look forward to the battlereports...esp. against Cavalry, Monsters and Magic as these seem currently to determine the "meta" .
I suggest you to take fly carpet on lv 4 wizard, it’s cheap and very useful. You fly, move faster and still 360 los. Maybe you can drop mortar and take some halberds as detachment ( I play 6 of them) each big block. They are good for combat resolution ( flank charge and if you are lucky you got some kills)! 😀 keep going I love your videos:)
Empire has been my faction since 5th edition, it does feel like the Empire has been neutered. I cant quite put my finger on what exactly what's wrong. Except one thing the knights lost there Full Plate.
Empire suffer alot from no step up in combat. Their infantry have always been lacklustre, but now they can't even attack because they are dead, or they are fighting dwarves which are really hard to kill. In 8th ed a horde with halberdiers and a warrior priesr was actually bothersome for the opponent
think it will be fine at this stage, until people start going for meta lists involving things like. Unkillable points denial units. All cavalry Dragons Lower points it's not such an issue, but....noone tell Mord it takes an average of 12 cannon shots to kill a tooled up dragon (which for some reason isnt oit of LOS ornin combat) 😢
I'm prefer outriders instead of mortar. Yes, large template, but only S2! It's ridiculous. Instead outriders bring S4 ap1, armorbane1, 3 shots by model, skirmish and marksman with option of grenade-launcher
Still making life hard for yourself by avoiding Outriders and Knights I see. Even a unit of Flagellants or Great Swords would give you more flexibility. State troops are just... meh, they're not awful but I don't see how they could hope to carry a battle on their own. Artillery is a mixed bag, the great cannon is good and 1 or 2 paired with an engineer can be a great tool for taking down tough enemies, but the hell blaster is just not as good as a unit of outriders doing basically the same job but with mobility and at least some ability to fight hand to hand. Mortars I find just a bit unreliable and hellstorm I haven't actually tried yet.
Are these 3d prints or all eBay finds? Im still trying to start empire army. Army looks great Mordian
Thank you for the super comment :D
The infantry are 3d printed, most of the other stuff is original :)
Your great cannons look like "wasp" and "hornet". And the mortar might be a "bumblebee"
Darn you, sir. That army is gorgeous and tempts me to consider the Old World. Splendid job.

According to the rules you don't have to even pivot the warmachines because they are skirmishers ;)

I love to see you doubling down on the state troops. Can’t wait to see the after action report!

For the Heldenhammer! wish GW made "at rest" poses for the state troops...yes i know there are 3d prints which ill probably use lol
Loving your Old World coverage!
I want to do an empire army like this

Impressive army and I agree, state troops are amazing and they are the identity of the Empire anyway! Corehammer ftw

Probably just not playing competetive games with tuned lists

stank and hellblaster confuse and frighten the bretonian. Fortunately the lady protects both.

Nice Paint job. I am always suprised how shity small even cheap mass armies look in TOW compared to a Kings of War army.
I thought the BSB does not allow you to carry two-handed weapons...

The war machines look good

People that say the empire are bad aren’t running very effective lists.
OK is that a Split Second refrence with the " we need lots of guns" ?? - I hope so
Where can you buy empire of man miniatures?
Hey man! Been browsing stl’s but haven’t come across your ones, which company makes these? Cheers! 🤙
He Mordian, do you want the bit missing for that cannon of yours?
But where are the lasguns?
That’s 2000 points? Huh I thought you used to get more models in a 2000 points army, especially for a non-elite army like Empire
Who on earth says that empire warmachines are terrible? Never leave the house without cannons.
room temp iq redditors, (and a minority of them), same people say grail knights are bad
Time to try it on WH3 boys? x'D
