As a lifelong Empire player, I can relate to so much in this video! I've still got that metal behemoth steam tank waiting to be painted one day!

Correct, I also have them, moved them to the UK recently. I bought them back in the day in 2005 in Spain. I have lived 17 years abroad and settled in Scotland 12 years ago. Note getting back in the hobby through my kids.

This made me dig up my old Cathay "counts as Empire" army from 20 years ago and set it up... And now I've spent the entire evening making characters for it from the left over models I apparantly never finished. What a blast from the past...
As an old Warhammer player, I am pleased to see such a beautiful Imperial army, and at the same time an interesting concept. An infantry regiment with artillery support along with a tank and no cavalry!
Canadian here, if you're liking the red and white, could do some royal Canadian mounted 'police'

Awesome army, been seeing a lot of great painting work on your live streams getting these lads finished up. Always a great feeling to have a fully painted 2k army on the game board.
For flags on units, Swiss flag for Halberdiers, and the Flag of the Knights of St John (Maltese Cross) for knights. Both red and white!
For a guard player I expected more cannons. I kid, the army looks great can't wait to see what you ad to your collection.

I find the weight of the old steam tank particularly interesting as it's approximately the same as Mad Larkin's giant, blue, left testicle. Or so I've heard.

I think some good things to add would be some elites such as hippogryph cavalry or empire knights or reichsguard knights and even a blob of great swords
Cool looking army. I am also printing/painting my own following your steps. One white and red banner that could fit in your schema is the Cross of Burgundy Flag.
i want to see those lads with the big wavy swords.

30 Spearmen are really good, agree on that, although I run 10 or 15 man Spearmen detachments and 10 man crossbow detachments instead and the archers separately since they are 5+ anyway. Since the prayers from the priests can no longer be dispelled, I would highly recommend you go ham on that and replace the 2 generals with a Lectors and a Priest, they are not much worse in fighting but also have the prayers, especially the rerolls 1 to hit and to wound helps the spearmen so much.

For more flag ideas, I heard that Switzerland's flag is a big plus...
More seriously the fact that your only mobile unit is the steam tank is a good indicator of where to expand next. That said it would be a fun army to fight as or against.

Red and white is perfect for the Canadian flag! Probably a knight unit would be great. As we are so chivalrous as a nation!

Greatswords would look good with the Austrian flag, the Caribbean is a happy hunting ground for knightly flags.
Red and white flag colour ideas.
Flag of Malta. The flag for their navy has the Templar cross. Would be cool for empire/inner circle knights.
Flag of Imperial Spain: Maybe for halberds? Spain's tercio formation was devastating on the battlefield during the era of pike and shotte.

The idea behind the Empire General stat line is that they owe their position to politics and are not warriors as such (as opposed to, say, a Brettonian Duke or equivalent). My only recommendation in regard to the army as it stands is the potential inclusion of a Warrior Priest to buff one of those big spearmen blocks.

handgunners should have the Texas Flag. Its easier to paint as well.

I had the same issue with one of my cold cannons the other day, luckily I found the parts on cults3d, "missing cannon carriage bits" ;)
Now my new/old Ostlanders have a working cannon battery soon.
As for the banners, a unit of knights of the white wolf would look good with a Swedish flag, just sayin.

Got to get some demigryphs in there at some point. Army looks good but I do still enjoy battle reports at around 1250-1500 points. They just move so much quicker. I want to paint some empire up but I don't want to paint 100 crotch pieces.

I think you at least need a couple more units, probably of cav, maybe some outriders or demigryphs and knights
Just some other units you can slot in before you move on to something else, do that the empire isn't identical in every battle

i'd suggest adding a tactical rock under the general so you know wich one is a proppa character! other than that, fantastic job!
Oh mighty Glory of Mordia! How did you base these lads? Im trying to use sand/PVA glue to base my empire but there's no tutorials out there to help :(
