Phil, you are a pure pleasure to listen to. You’re forthright and self effacing… very genuine and so incredibly knowledgeable and talented. Thank you so much for sharing all you are, and do, with all of us. 👍 and as usual, an absolutely gorgeous piece…wow that’s beautiful!
It does start out looking very cranky. But in the end I see a bear - with two big old wide set surprised looking eyes and a nose. I kind of like him. No matter how gnarly, impossible, cracked, and angry the chunky piece of wood is, you always find the beauty in it and create such interesting pieces. Thank you.😊
I think one of the things I like about your videos is the calm in your voice. You have what I'd call a "Bob Ross" voice. his voice made you want to pint and yours makes you want to turn wood into art. Thanks so much for the lessons.
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop Thanks for getting back to me Phil. I will be retiring on the 28th of May and intend to take up turning as hobby. I almost don't believe your vision of the peice at the beginning of the video. I watched it to the end just to see the wood change shape. Thank you for what you do, and for sharing it.
Love that olive wood, it's beautifull . I get the impression, watching your videos, that you don't like using carbide tools, why is that ? Thanks for the videos, I look forward to the next ones.
You are correct, Lee. It's just me, I know there are lots of turners that use carbide quite successfully. I feel like they don't allow me to feel the wood. I feel like they take the art out of turning, for me. I also feel, it's not as fun to watch. Besides, I started with carbide and fought long and hard to learn to use HSS tools and I'm going to celebrate that every chance I get! 😊 Thank you for watching and commenting!
Phil, you have the eye when deciding what and how you will turn something I wish I had just a small amount of the skill and talent you have, you never disappoint! Love the cracks and the finish, another beautiful turning! thank you for the kind words..........some of which are true. LOL. Regards
Wow, thank you, Dan, but, I've seen your work and you seem to be quite capable of turning out beauty, which admittedly is not difficult with this Olive wood. This piece was a bugger to turn but I'm happy with the results. Thank you, again, for bringing it up here! 😊
Good morning, good afternoon , good evening from a very hot Spain at the moment. I wanted to write to you and thank you for igniting a passion, like a volcano, that has been dormant inside me. I am so enjoying the videos especially when your turning 🫒 Olive. I live in a small village where all that can be seen is Olive trees. For winter our Woodburner uses Olive or Almond but now those lovely usual shapes of wood have a different destination. At any one time I have 3 tons of wood ready for the winter. I am a novice but with your enthusiasm I'm feeling confident. On behave of all thank you for ability to put across so clearly the beauty in our natural wood. Harvey from Jaen Spain.
All I know is, among woodturners, Olive wood is highly sought after, Harvey. You are fortunate to have a good supply at your fingertips. It is sooo beautiful! 😊
Phil, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. I like ruggedness in things and enjoy what God has created. I love your work, but I also love the way things look as I find them in nature. I really like that piece in its natural state. You did a great job on this piece.
The grumpy ones, they are the ones you remember, and often the ones that you keep. Normally this is where the wife joke would go, but she is such a sweetie pie, I just can't do it. I wish I had the patience to do the finishing half as well as you do, you really make them pretty.
Haha, good one, William! That finish is sooo important. Spend a little time and watch the reaction of people that pick the piece up. That will convince you it's worth the effort. 😊
Ever heard the phrase “no matter how good she looks, someone somewhere thinks she’s a b*tch”? That’s what your comment and Phil’s editing reminded me of. He cut out all his cursing to bring us a beautiful bowl! 😂👌🏼👍🏼😁
Oh Phil, this is a beauty and chunky bowl. Ice bucket, salad bowl, vegetable server, possibly pop a top on it and make it the spare change bank. Floating candle center piece. A great base to hold a fresh, live 3' or 4' Christmas tree 🎄 or potted house plant 🌵. If you pop a top on it with a smooth rounded 1" hole in it, anyone who knits or crotchets would love to put their ball of yarn in it so it's not tangling or rolling around the room and again, it's beautiful and heavy so it won't tip and roll over either. So many possibilities. Limited only by the imagination.
It looks so smooth and soft to touch. I love how you always put lots of effort with the finishes on your work! I love this bowl! It's beautiful! 😍 Brovo 👏 on this piece! 😊❤

Phil I’ve learned so much from your videos. I’m a beginner turner. You have taught me so much and I thank you sincerely for that. Your presentation is so genuine and thorough. One question I have is what do you do with all the beautiful pieces. Regards, an ardent student of yours.

Thank you very much, Jeanette! 😊
Beautiful absolutely beautiful. Years ago when I was a Navy Seabee, we were stationed in Rota Spain. We burned tons of olive wood in the fireplace. It is fantastic firewood, burns slowly and very hot. After seeing this bowl I’m sorry we did! Of course Spain was pretty much carpeted by Olive orchards soooooo….
Yeah, I know where it's common it makes great firewood. Just not so common around these parts, Sam!
Beautiful job Phil. Thanks for sharing. Stay Safe, Jules, Droitwich, England
