What I like about your work is giving Nature the credit for the beauty inherent in a piece of wood and your job is to curate the reveal of that beauty. Thanks again Phil.
I'm inclined to agree with the other people who commented on your ability to see the outcome of a piece before you start it. You are amazing Phil. Thank you for another great video.
How you see the potential of what was, to be honest, just an ugly lump of wood truly amazes me mr Anderson, you are indeed a gifted individual to be able to produce such a gorgeous bowl.
I'm so glad, Josh! Most of us start as spindle turners. Making the leap to bowls is kind of a big deal but once you have a couple under your belt, it opens up a whole new world. Enjoy! 😊
Wonderful. I enjoy your creations very much. You are a humble man who sees beauty that others might never know if you hadn't show cased it. Thanks. Don Miller
Hi Phil. I am watching from Aotearoa/New Zealand. I don't usually comment on You Tube, but in your case I just wanted to thank you for the easy going method you use in making your videos. I am an older man, almost seventy, and have recently started wood turning. I find you videos both educational and inspiring. Thank You.
Thank You Phil, Thank You Dan, Thank You Jason (nice pen Jason, don't slow down)...Phil I do not think I would ever tire of Olive wood with its swirly grain, it is worth Olive the effort you put into that very hard wood. TM
Howdy Phil! When you said olive I knew it was going to be something really nice. As always you chose a way to mount it and turn it that really showcases the beauty of that wood! 👍👍
There's just something about Olive Wood I absolutely love it!! You really did it justice, nice job!! I especially appreciate you not getting too paranoid about cracks. I respect the danger they can pose but so many big name wood turners see the smallest crack and practically 'abandon ship', Only ever working on pristine wood. I do not have the luxuary of being picky in my wood. So glad to see you follow through and end up with a beautiful piece!!!
Thank you! 😀 Careful inspection of cracks can tell you if it's safe to work it or not. As long as they don't go all the way through a piece from one side to the other, I'm good with them.
It just amazes me that you could look at that impossible to (to me) piece of wood and see what you were going to create out of it. For some reason the bowl made me think Retro. Like 1920 or 30s art. Very beautiful
It's a whole different set of muscles, Dutch, both in your hands and in your head. I was a woodworker for 50 years before I decided to become a turner. 😊
Mr. Phil, that, is a beautiful piece of art. You sir have a great 👍 eye. Woodturning to me 🪵 is always a mystery with pleasant and satisfying surprise at the end. Thanks for sharing.
Why is it that the best looking pieces tend to beat the turner up?! That hurt my shoulders watching you turn that beautiful work of art! Mother Nature at her finest. See you in the next one Phil
That is one beautiful piece of wood Phil. And you sure got it all dressed up in it's best Sunday attire. The bark for sure is the show here. The way it is on the top edge in one place and the inside elsewhere is really cool. And the grain is spectacular. Just an amazing job of hanging in there and revealing the shape you did. Might be about time I got into another one of my pieces; Take care my friend, Gary
Yeah, it's just hard to go wrong with Olive, Gary! It just makes the turner look good! LOL! I'll be checking out your new video as soon as I finish up the comments on this one. Always a pleasure to watch you work! 😊
It held true... the more trouble the piece of wood gives you the more beautiful it turns out... this is absolutely gorgeous Phil 🥰 thanks for the privilege of watching you bring out the beauty in this wood...
Hi Phil, As accidents go that has to be the best accident I have ever seen. The grain in the Olive wood is just astonishing. As always my friend fantastic work. Take care Phil. Cheers, Huw. PS That is a beautiful looking pen.
I’m surprised how different the grain looks on the different types of wood. Some of it comes out so bold which is absolutely built beautiful. But as usual beautiful work thanks again.
It is wonderful, Phil. Marvelous in fact! Olive wood has so much going for it. When it comes to you in its rustic state, and you turn it out into something I could look at for hours.
Good golly miss Moly.....not only can that piece go to the prom it can go to the ball!!! I love the grain character in this piece. Thanks for putting out such great videos, it is truly inspiring.
Looking good.
Thanks, Jimmy! 😊
What I like about your work is giving Nature the credit for the beauty inherent in a piece of wood and your job is to curate the reveal of that beauty. Thanks again Phil.
I appreciate that, Jonny, thanks! 😊
Your work does honor you, Phil!!!
Thank you, Dick! 😊
I'm inclined to agree with the other people who commented on your ability to see the outcome of a piece before you start it. You are amazing Phil. Thank you for another great video.
