Gosh, Phil, that was some commitment to the cause of a TH-cam video for our benefit! You always entertain and educate us, and produce pieces that no-one else would contemplate or envisage - you truly have a unique style ... and that is why we eagerly look forward to Thursday night in your company! Thank you so much.
Hi Phil Don't worry about the name, the first name is right 😂 I would have turned it the other side up but I think you made the right choice.😊 I love it.
I debated back and forth on this, Arland! I think my intention was to go bark side up when I first saw it, but after turning it over and over about 50 times, flat side won! 😊
Golly, Phil, that is a big Ole bowl. It turned out fabulous. Made me tired watching 😆. People don't realize how beautiful Pine can be. I love it!!! You did a fabulous job on that big piece.
Cool ponderosa. We have a lot of them around my neck of the woods along with pinion & juniper. You rose to the challenge of that flaky bark. Awesome tuning with soft wood. If you smell that bark in nature it smells like butterscotch!! Thanks for sharing. 🌲
Hi 👋, Phil from Phil. What a great looking 👀 Bowl, definitely a lot of fun to seeing you turning that peace, I don’t think a lot of people realise the time and effort that you have to put into a bowl turning like this, that is a amazing peace of Art, well done Phil. Stay safe.keep up the great work, we all look 👀 forward to seeing your next project, Phil from the moulin France.
This one is a humdinger, Phil. Just beautiful. This would make a great center of the table Fruit Bowl. A definite winner even if it took the juice outta you! Easy for me to say😂😂😂 Thanks Phil.
In this week's episode: Phil processes ponderous Ponderosa Pine piece - prepares phenomenal product! It was great that you were able to rescue some of the bark, that added to the overall amazingness of the bowl.
I have to be honest and say I didn't think this was going to work out, however Phil produced the magic and it turned out just fine, worth the time spent on it, good job Phil. 😁
Phil, you are just like my Mom! You struggled for a time, and created a big, bold, and beautiful thing. You saw it's potential and drew out it's inner and outer beauty. Now it is complete and has a purpose... It will live on beyond you, and you will live on through it. Congratulations Phil... On the birth of this bowl. Thanx for sharing and I'll keep watching. ✌️😎👍
Thank You Phil Anderson, Thank You Arland Sanborn... WOW This Is One Monumental Turning.... Quite a big one Phil... This turning was hard on you and I am sorry for that BUT you did quite an impressive job of it all and wonderful entertainment for all your viewers. That carbide seemed to help make life a bit easier? After all your efforts on this 5-day bowl you can now sit back with your ultimate M&M container 😆 Phil it was difficult BUT you are now a much better, stronger, more experienced/skilled wood turner than you were a week ago. ... Until next time Phil... I look forward to all you do... TM
Tuffy is right the bowl is perfect for a giant size bag of M&Ms. What a great way to celebrate a job beautifully done. Off to Costco for supplies and then just sit back and admire your work while you ponder, reach out to touch and pinch a chocolate reward. Gr-reat work.😮
Haha, yeah that ought to hold enough M&M's to get me through a whole movie! I know you appreciate the effort that goes into something like this, Tuffy. It was work but now I'm onto a fun piece and life is great again! 😊
@@tuffymartinez I like the peanut filled ones so I think the bowl would work well. If there was still room I could just add another package . . . the large bags sold at Costco. I’m a quilter so Phil’s filled bowl would keep me happy, especially when M&Ms melt in my mouth and not in my hands. It’s important to keep the fabric clean, no one wants a messy quilt.
Hi Phil Waaaou. Big turn. The bark on the edge, looks like an eagle in flight, with wings spread out. Pretty. Pretty. Pretty. She flew over the tops of the Shady Acre Trees Tops, and decided to metamorphose herself into a bowl. Despite that we can hear the fatigue in your voice at one point, it is a beautiful bowl. Forest fire smoke wise, I have been pretty lucky. Bought two air purifiers: one for the car; one for the house. Our air quality has been much better than it has been for some. Have a beautiful week. Going snorkeling.
Phil, that was a lot of work. I'm tired for you. It is absolutely beautiful. The shape, the bark and the colors are just wonderful. Thank you for all work you put in to making this bowl.
Hi Phil. The most important lesson I have learned from you is "Mask and Face Shield On". I reviewed all my tools and easily see the safety requirements to use a mask and shield for most all tools I have. I have a bald spot on the top of my head and decided to leave it be. Way to stick with it Phil! I think it came out beautifully. We used to have a trailer on a piece of property when the kids were little. It was on a lake in the middle of a pine forest. Not only did the forest smell amazing in the hot summer sun but the trees shed bits of their bark and they looked like a busted up jigsaw puzzle laying on the ground. The kids loved picking them up. I could see that exact puzzle shape in the bark you were sanding…..took me right back! Thank you for that 😊 . Cheers, Rick
Phil - I'm my...ahem...humble opinion... This is the best piece I've seen you create. I love everything about it. I am especially proud of you for leaving the wide margin on the top and then put the little lip on it. It's perfect. I know it was a ton of work, but you started with a good piece of wood. You should always be working with good pieces of wood Phil and this bowl is proof of it. Please don't devalue your talent. You're really good. >>>>>>>>This piece should be in a high end gallery, and priced accordingly. It's absolutely superb.
I love your love of the bark. I've seen many videos where someone attempted a live edge, lost some of the bark and then proceeded to chisel away the rest. Not you! You see the natural beauty and try your best to preserve it as best you can. That's why I love your channel. For all of its imperfections, that's what makes this piece naturally perfect. Beautiful, Mr Phil. Just beautiful.
Beautiful Phil, Lots of people dismiss Pine ( Insert Species) as a undesired medium to use for fine woodworking but Pine has always had a special place on my shelf. I think most woodwork's for beginners and accomplished woodworkers, can be made into awesome pieces. Love the live edge and grain of this useful bowl. Love it! Thank you for sharing.
Great point, Dan! As a young woodworker, I used a lot of pine in my projects, mostly due to it's reasonable price at the time. I loved the smell as I ran it through my tablesaw. Lots of decorative and useful pieces still floating around somewhere, I suppose. This piece smelled great too as I cut into it. Thanks, buddy! 😊
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop I could almost smell it as you where turning it. I used to bag pine shavings in zip lock bags as it reminded me of home. PNW!
That's a beautiful bowl. It looked shallower on lathe almost like a custom bird bath but the hole killed that thought great to see you doing your craft. Good night Great Job Phil I missed watching you make beautiful pieces of art
Morning Phil, That was a big lump of Pine. I really do love the end result as ever. I have a video in a couple of weeks that might interest you and bring back memories of this one. Great video as always. Take care my friend. Cheers, Huw
I turned some Pine years ago but this is my first time with Ponderosa. Other than nearly killing me, I'm very happy with the grain and color of this piece, Ken. 😊
Another beautiful piece again as always. Very impressive problem solving on this one. Two 👍👍 for this awesome bowl. Thanks for sharing your talent with us.
Phil, this has to be one if not the largest bowl you turned, at least during the time I've watched your video's. I love the vanilla smell of the Ponderosa Pine bark. You did a great job of saving the bark. As I've said before, the inclusions and cracks add to the uniqueness of the woodturning. Now we fans will let you rest after five days of hard work before you start another turning.
Well Phil, you know what? I think you might have made a sink! A lovely looking turning though I was worried you might have over done it regarding your own well being, you sounded absolutely knackered there at one point!😅 Smashing job...oh and by the way I kept reading your headline as a Ponderous Pine...which I suppose it was in many ways. 😂 Love that you managed to preserve that bark and get it tapered so beautifully. The colour is gorgeous. I'm taking bets your daughter has you water-seal it for a sink!😁👍
Wow! Looks like you could put about a half bushel of apples in that bowl. Big fan of bark exclusions, I think they really add to the look. Have not turned any pine with success so far. I always get tear out. Very nice! Thanks Phil take the rest of the day off, lol.😅 Dan
This piece is big and beautiful. I like the live edge. A lot of work Phil but it is sure worth it. Right at the start you said mask and face shield on and I thought glove but there was your bare hand but though the magic of movies you all the sudden had a glove on 😂. Thanks for the show! Joel
I watched someone else turn something the other day. I am delighted to see many people making beautiful things with lathes and deriving great satisfaction from doing so. You are such a calming presence and so good at your craft, though, that having come across your work early makes most others hard to watch. Part of it is that I like your taste; I don't like putting resin in and on everything, say, and it drives me up a tree to see how much of what's interesting about a piece of wood others take away. But I guess I really like that you seem to work with instead of against your medium, as so many other folks seem to. Thank you for thinking about how much you can keep and not just what you're going to take away.
Looks Awesome Phil! I believe it was definitely worth it! Glad you kept working with that bark that really adds super duper nice character to the piece, Enjoyed the video! 😎👍
Thank you Phil, absolute masterpiece, would be definitely talking subject in the middle of any table. Softer wood not easy to turn with lots of sanding but it's worth it. Keep well. Lukas, beginner woodturner NZ. Cheers.
A large beautiful pine burl and you glue the bark back on over that scrumptious wood. Gonna have to come over there and hide your glue bottle. At least a little of that bare patch still shows. Reminds me of leaving the fur coat on a swimsuit model (LOL!!!) That said, you did a beautiful job on bringing out the figure on the rest of the bowl. Tiring yes, but worth all the effort you put into it. Hope the turn (walnut?) goes easier!
I think Ben Cartwright himself would love having that in his house at the Ponderosa! I know I would!!
Thanks again, Phil!
Haha, I've been in that house, Kelly! Thank you! 😊
Great idea putting the bead on top to delineate the bowl from the wings.

It took me a long time to watch this video but man I’m glad I didn’t pass it up! That bowl is SO WORTH IT! Thanks for sharing! I love it.
Any time, Tina, thanks for watching and commenting! 😊
Absolutely a beautiful piece especially the bark, l ❤ the contrast in colors
😊
Another beautiful piece again as always. Very impressive problem solving on this one. Two 👍👍 for this awesome bowl. Thanks for sharing your talent with us.
Thank you, Carolyn! 😊
Hope you have a good, can't wait for your next amazing piece of art.
That bowl is definitely worth the five days of effort you put into the development of it. The reward now is to enjoy the beauty of your creation. 👍😊
Absolutely 😊
Well that sure is one for the books. Loved watching the transformation.
Thanks, Chris! 😊
Wow, Phil, you showed courage to even try to turn a blank with known challenges. Well done!
😊
Phil, this has to be one if not the largest bowl you turned, at least during the time I've watched your video's. I love the vanilla smell of the Ponderosa Pine bark. You did a great job of saving the bark. As I've said before, the inclusions and cracks add to the uniqueness of the woodturning. Now we fans will let you rest after five days of hard work before you start another turning.
I appreciate the rest, Russ, thanks! 😊
Well Phil, you know what? I think you might have made a sink!
A lovely looking turning though I was worried you might have over done it regarding your own well being, you sounded absolutely knackered there at one point!😅
Smashing job...oh and by the way I kept reading your headline as a Ponderous Pine...which I suppose it was in many ways. 😂
Love that you managed to preserve that bark and get it tapered so beautifully. The colour is gorgeous.
I'm taking bets your daughter has you water-seal it for a sink!😁👍
She can seal it when I'm not here anymore, Jude! 😊
That turned out better than I thought it would. very good. you are the GOAT (Greatest Of All Time.)
Wow, thank you, David! 😊
It looked like a turtle, but well worth all your hours! Fabloso! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏❤️🇬🇧
😊
I really like this bowl. I can see the bowl settin the on a kitchen island filled with fruits. Brautiful
Glad you like it! Thanks, Chris! 😀
I love the brown that's under the gray bark. Awesome work Phil!
Cool, me too! 😊
Oh my goodness, Phil! It’s beautiful!❤ I could hear the tiredness in your voice. It was a long haul, but definitely worth the five days!
Haha, it took three days just to edit it, MaryBeth! 😊
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop Thank you for your willingness to do all the work to be able to share the video!
Wow! Looks like you could put about a half bushel of apples in that bowl. Big fan of bark exclusions, I think they really add to the look. Have not turned any pine with success so far. I always get tear out. Very nice! Thanks Phil take the rest of the day off, lol.😅 Dan
Haha, thanks, Dan! 😊
Great outcome, Phil. Your patience was rewarded. Well done.
😊
Morning Phil, that is some sized bowl! The end result is just beautiful. All the best, Mike
Thank you, Mike! 😊
This piece is big and beautiful. I like the live edge. A lot of work Phil but it is sure worth it. Right at the start you said mask and face shield on and I thought glove but there was your bare hand but though the magic of movies you all the sudden had a glove on 😂.
Thanks for the show!
Joel
Haha, yup, forgot to mention the glove! 😊
This is so unique and worth the effort and time you put into it! Beautiful!!! 😮👏
Thank you so much!! 😊
Another beautiful turning. Glad to see you were able to glue the bark back on.
😊
I like the outcome too Phil. The texture of the bark is amazing😊
I like that bark too, David! 😊
You never cease to amaze me with your turning skills!! Such a beautiful piece!!!
Thank you very much! 😊
Wow 🤩 very beautiful Phil!!!!! Another on for the books, great job 👏
😊
Beautiful work and well worth the effort. I love the way you dealt with the bark, using a grinder to mellow the edges. Another masterpiece Phil.
Thank you very much, Alan! 😊
And thank you for understanding what I'm trying to do here! 😊
A beautiful and challenging piece worthy of a special place amongst all of your other pieces. Thanks
Thanks, Michael! 😊
Wow, way to go again Phil😊
😊
Looks Awesome Phil! I believe it was definitely worth it!
Glad you kept working with that bark that really adds super duper nice character to the piece, Enjoyed the video! 😎👍
Thanks, Kimsey! I do think the bark was necessary to bring out the best of this piece with that great contrast. Have a good one, my friend! 😊
Thank you Phil, absolute masterpiece, would be definitely talking subject in the middle of any table. Softer wood not easy to turn with lots of sanding but it's worth it. Keep well. Lukas, beginner woodturner NZ. Cheers.
Thanks, Lukas! 😊
It's gorgeous Phil. Can put a lot of stuff in it for snacks. hehe Love everything about it. 😍
Yes you can, Marge! But, I better not! 😊
So far so good on the Walnut, Valerie! Can't wait to get back to it as soon as I finish these comments! 😊
Wow and WOW - pine, when it cooperates, is super. Very nice!
Thank you! Cheers! 😊
Beautiful!! Very rarely think about turning pine, you’ve changed my mind.
Hard wood is generally easier to turn than this soft Pine but still, I'm glad I turned it, Debra. 😊
That's a Beautiful ❤️ piece of pine! Absolutely gorgeous!
Thank you very much! 😊
It’s amazingly beautiful ponderous pine bowl. Thank you for sharing ❤
Thanks, Maddie! 😊
A superb turn Phil and a beautiful piece. Cheers. Mike
Thanks for watching and commenting, Mike! 😊
I love it Phil I'm not crazy about pine but I love that you are the man
😊
Really nice bowl, Phil. I know it was a LOT of work but I'm glad you persevered because it was worth it. Time to take a long rest.
Bill
Gotta get back at it for the next one, Bill! 😊
Actually, I never thought I'd like pine wood turnings. At least until now. That is an incredible beauty! Very well turned!
And it smells good while turning it, Dave! 😊
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop Yeah, I don't doubt it! Although no pitch pockets kind of surprised me.
Love the combo of bark and finished wood. Good job
