    Great video. So many scammers out there. So nice to see them get exposed. If they took all that energy they use to try and scam people, and put it into a legit business, they would probably do pretty well. Jim Myers was my football coach in High School. One of the reasons this video really got my attention. Class of 1985. Madison High School.

    Sold a pair of headlights on craigslist from my son's car. Buyer immediately offered $100 (half my listed price) and I think he was shocked when I agreed. Next he said "Hey, I can only come up with $80" I told him I'd wait until he could get the other $20, and he was mad that I wouldn't agree to $80 since "we are only $20 apart". I reminded him we were actually $120 apart LOL. He went silent. Three weeks later I get a "new" buyer (different email) making the same $100 offer and I accept. After declining his request to meet "somewhere" else, I meet him at my local police department parking lot, and he calls me when he arrives. When I go to the number to text him where I'm located, the entire conversation pops up from the "other" buyer from 3 weeks prior. I suspected it was the same buyer because of his similar questioning, etc. He then asks if I would mind waiting while he installed them to see if they work?! I don't have a great poker face, and just repeated the request back to him (incredulously). He paid me and I left and never heard from him again.

    Nothing rare about this guy, common scammer. I needed a good laugh and when he said he was going to report you that did the trick. Last fall I was at a yard sale that had eBay listings printed out on everything. I was interested in an African musical instrument but the guy refused to negotiate because, I kid you not, he said it was a rare item. I showed him a few Sold prices on eBay which had a much lower price, suddenly he was able to come down on the price so I bought it. Knowledge is power, great video.

    I was waiting for that....the I'll post it online myself. Resellers have to be careful on craigslist, Facebook, and those smaller apps like Nextdoor. You are going to run into people who will take offense even if you try to explain what you do as a reseller. I had a recent convo with a person selling 50 pop figures. They told me they wanted to get rid of them. After researching them I sent him an offer, a little lower than 1/3 of what I could get online through research to give myself some negotiating room. He sent back a firm counter that they all would sell for $650 (that is msrp btw) and he would take $250, nothing less. Basically the amount I figured I could get myself on the secondary market. He didn't have anything really special to begin with but they were all bnib. I politely passed as I saw where the negotiation was headed. He shot back a message that he could just as easily post to eBay too. Some people.

    Good gravy. I haven't done enough reselling/sourcing to run into this particular problem, but I always wonder about the motivations of people who post insanely overpriced items on eBay. I figure that some of them are truly ignorant or misinformed, some expect to negotiate, and some are hoping to sell at the listed price to a buyer who's ignorant and/or in a hurry. And, I must confess, I've overpaid on a few items I bought on eBay as Christmas gifts because I was in a rush, saw something appealing and went ahead and bought it without checking completed items or checking for similar on-sale items.
    Just for the sake of asking, Dom, are you aware of any sort of benefit that a seller might accrue from having unsold, overpriced items listed on eBay?
    Like, could a less-than-honest seller list a bunch of hugely overpriced items that don't sell, then pull them off eBay at the end of the year and claim the "cost of goods" for acquiring those items was quite high, then assert that the seller's revenues for the year were pretty low once all those "cost of goods" figures for the unsold items are subtracted from the year's revenues? This is undoubtedly illegal (and would probably be rooted out by an audit), but I wonder if people try to do this.

    • @PrimeTimeTreasureHunter
      @PrimeTimeTreasureHunter  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the reasons would be as you stated but for cost of good you can only subtract what you paid for it, not what you are trying to pay for it. Some ppl also like to have some eye candy in the store. Others will price high with best offer hoping for someone to make an offer and then sell it at a reduced price that is more realistic but makes the buyer feel like they got a big discount.

    So satisfying! I being bored recently engaged in something similar only I was the seller. I've a £140 pair of boots for sale in pristine condition, not even wear to the heels and upper like new and I get the message what would you offer seeing as these have been reduced new price to £190,? So as they have been up a while I send an offer 10% reduced lowering it by £14 and he asks for pictures close up of every angle lol and leaves comments about the soles that there is a bit of wear left to them (they have hardly been worn), then on the close up on the rest he says they need a bit of work! lol what is he buying a car?? So I really don't want him to accept my offer, I say ignore my earlier offer and I will have a think about it. He agrees giving me time to think of a more suitable offer and I never heard from him again and that was over two weeks ago. Pity because I really wanted to see what else he would come up with, you can tell lockdown boredom has really set in here!

      Sure I did. He deceptively quoted false prices on eBay knowing darn well that the figure was not worth what he said it was, quoted a fake $350 price from another figure, likely was the person who sold one of the figures in Syracuse for much less, had a very sketch sticker that he claimed was a COA, and was being deceptive in his use of the term super rare in another undoubted attempt to try and jack the price up by creating the false impression of artificial low supply. That all screams scammer to me and his reaction at the end just proved it to me.
