    Thank you for this! Sub'd & liked. I've been away from MSFS since they apparently upgraded the G3000 and I was sorta lost trying to get back up to speed with it and the TBM. I also immediately noticed the change you brought up of where hitting NAV on the AP from HDG doesn't automatically just push the plane onto the flight path until you intersect it. Great stuff! Will come back to watch you other vids.

    Great tutorial! I particularly appreciate the two areas you help me understand: 1) why sometimes there is a gap in the flight plan and how to fix it; and 2) why sometimes the plane does nothing after pressing the NAV button. Through trial and error, I kind of figured out that NAV would activate more often if I flew in a direction that was similar to the course in the flight plan. Your explanation, which is flying in a direction to intercept the course in the FP, makes engaging NAV fool proof!

    Great vid. There is a way to speed up the Altitude selection. Click and hold the knurled edge of the knob on the left to increase or the right to reduce. Then, still holding the mouse button down SLOWLY drag the pointer horizontally left to add height or right to reduce.
    Sounds complicated or even counter-intuitive because the slower you drag, the quicker the rate of change, but it soon feels natural.

    • @FlightSimSchool

      My suggestion would be to get used to flying the TBM visually first, then learn IFR with it. It's a fun plane, and with the upgraded G3000 now it's a winner for any instrument flying, and the extra speed means you can get places and fly procedures faster than a C172 can.

    • @FlightSimSchool

    Mark, do you use ATC during IFR flights? I tried following your guide from this video but for some reason the flight levels from my flight plan did not sync with ATC. When I enabled VNAV and commenced the descent at the TOD point, ATC instructed me that I was below my assigned altitude and needed to climb back up. Is there a way to sync the flight plan flight levels with ATC or is it best to fly without ATC?

    • @FlightSimSchool
      @FlightSimSchool  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Julian, I don't really use the built-in ATC, it's kinda useless and very basic. I'll fly some flights on VATSIM but for the most part I'll make the ATC callouts out loud to myself rather than use the clunky menus.

  • @tommaxwell429
    @tommaxwell429 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Good video! I have a couple of questions. 1) Is the TBM930 considered a Jet? I say no. The reason I ask is that SIMBRIEF will always give you commercial routes flown by airlines. When you look at the SIDS and STARS they frequently (more than not) are restricted to Turbofan aircraft. That is reinforced by speed restrictions of 280 Knots on some STARS that the TBM930 can never achieve in real life. So, if we want to be as realistic as possible, we need to choose our STARS and SIDS carefully. Most RNAV routes are for airliners and most nonrestricted STARS and SIDS are based on VOR waypoints. In real life I'm not sure how TBM930 pilots treat these issues. 2) If I set up a VOR to VOR route from point A to Point B and want to set VNAV altitudes for each waypoint on the route, I almost always get an X across my altitude. Or if I enter a SID and then want to add a cruise altitude to the next waypoint afterwards or perhaps amend the altitude to the last waypoint in the sid, I often get an X through the altitude as well. I thought it meant that it is not an achievable altitude, but I don't think that is case. I tried to enter below 2K, 3K, 4K progressively upon departure to to keep me under the class b shelf. Then as I clear the class B, I tried to set an altitudes of 10K and 10K at waypoints many miles out that should have been easily achievable but I got X through the altitudes I entered. Any suggestions as to why I can't enter altitudes without getting X'd out? Also, will the G3000 fly an ascending VNAV profile using a given Flight Level Change (FLC) airspeed? If so, how do you set that up?

    • @FlightSimSchool
      @FlightSimSchool  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For your first question, I can tell you that on VATSIM you won’t have any issues flying any SID or STAR that you file for, I’ve done it frequently. For your second question, my guess is that it won’t do an ascending profile, but I’m not certain. Sorry!

    • @tommaxwell429
      @tommaxwell429 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@FlightSimSchool I figured it out and you are correct, no VNAV on ascent. The only I can figure out to handle it is to put your cruise altitude in the first waypoint or "the" first waypoint that you want to put an altitude into. Then each subsequent altitude you enter, must be lower than that initial altitude or you will get an X through the value indicating it isn't possible. I don't know if that's how it works in real life or not, probably so, but for sure in the similator, you can never enter a higher altitude than the first alititude entered in the flight plan. I do think the airline FMS work with ascending VNAV but clearly the G3000 and G1000 do not.

    Thank you for your sharing this, but I am having a problem that you are not. Coupled VNAV is not functioning for me. All of my procedures for setting up the descent profile appear to be the same as yours (note: the only mods I have loaded are Navigraph and Bijan's Seasons).

    -- Enabled VNAV in the GTC
    -- Enabled VNAV in the AP

      - The other thing is check in your content manager to see if there is something else hiding in there that might be conflicting.

    I'm having an issue where if I enter a flight plan into the MFD, I cannot get IFR clearance from the ATC list. I am hitting load and I do see the flight plan on screen but then there's no option to request IFR and get taxi instructions to the runway. Can anyone help?
    Thank you for your time.

      @FlightSimSchool  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t use the default atc but my guess is it doesn’t know about your flight when you enter it directly from the cockpit and therefore can’t give you instructions. You can test it if you load a plan from the flight planning screen.

      @@FlightSimSchool ATC automatically contacts me and gives me IFR clearance if I do it from the world map. Is that just a bug then? I just want to make sure it's not a user error and I'm missing something. 😂

      @@hamsack981 Yeah, they would need to make it detect the flight plan entered in the cockpit, so it's either a bug or improvement depending on how they want to look at it.
