    By the way, ITT stands for Interstage Turbine Temperature, not "inlet temperature". ITT is the measure of the exhaust gases temperature between the high pressure and the low pressure turbines.

    Overkill,
    Nice demo. Thankyou.
    Your G3000 is different from my standard one, but I learnt a lot.
    An approach and landing technique you might like to try: I descend at 40% power ~ 155 KIAS. When the glideslope is captured and the nose drops, I extend landing gear and first notch of flap. Power to 25% and I aim for 124 KIAS so if I fly a missed approach, I'm already at max climb speed. I hold this configuration until the inner marker ~ 1000 feet to run, than drop landing flap. Disengage autopilot which will have trimmed the flap extension, and close the throttle. Speed bleeds to 85 IAS at the 500 foot marker.
    Landing flap has a lot of drag, and you are flying on the back end of the drag curve and speed instability can bite. I have about 160 hours on the TBM 930, and my only crash has been on the landing challenge at Courcheval, when I let the speed decay to 70 KIAS and even max power would not recover. MSFS has since reduced the landing flap drag.
    This is a point of 'prettyness', but for people making impressive videos like yours, you can customize the Registration in the World Map planning - scroll down to Customisation. Being an Aussie, my rego is VH-CLM which appears on the cockpit dash and the skin of the aircraft. You can set a Callsign which is my case is CLM31. (The tail number of the RAAF Mirage IIIO I was assigned.) You need to add something to CLM as MSFS adds 1233.
    Thanks again. Off to try some of your tricks.

    So why not set your lowest altitude in the ALT box, press VNAV and voila, it'll start down and meet every alt. That's what we did in the airliners, less pilot work load in IMC conditions

    For the transponder, its really up to what kind of airspace that you’re in. If you’re within the mode c veil, then you’d have it on alt reporting for VFR flight as part of your startup checklist. For IFR I’m pretty sure you have it on completely to provide the most information to the controllers while under a squawk code. It’s only required within the mode c veil and in A, B, C airspace, or above 10,000ft MSL unless you’re above 10,000ft MSL but below 1,200ft AGL.

    Why calculate a VNAV profile and then come down in VS mode??? Just below the VS button is the VNV button. This activates the VNAV profile and the plane will follow it down on its own. Sorry, but that is absolutely incomprehensible. This is not how VNAV works.

    I have a question about real life VNAV. Does it works similar as in sim? System provides you ''advice'' when you start a decent and vertical speed. And you have to set up vertical speed manually. Doesn't it looks like that: you just activate vnav and watch the throttle, so you don't overspeed and autopilot descent to assigned altitude automatically...

    • @Nacecraft
      @Nacecraft 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      There are two kinds of VNAV, Coupled VNAV and Advisory VNAV, coupled means the VNAV takes control of the aircraft's pitch in order to maintain your desired descent speed/angle. Advisory VNAV simply shows a vertical speed target that you need to follow on your own in order to maintain your descent speed and angle

    When I activate VNAV and set the altitude to the final approach fix, the plane descends automatically according to the published sequence. I don't know if this feature was added after this video was made. I do not have to manually descend by setting the descent rate. The VNAV PATH takes care of the descent. During my flight training my instructors said not to have the Transponder on until cleared for take off or runway entry. Reason is that an aircraft on Approach would receive an collision alert and would go around not a good thing. We used the line of Lights Camera Action….Lights obviously all lights needed for departure….Camera is Transponder so you can be seen…..Action is Throttle up checking engine gauges.
    I see you are getting MixMugs Bugs too with High ITT upon take off not matching Torque climb out on Low Torque which should be 96 to 100. The standby Instrument High Speed Tape not matching the PFD High Speed which is the Correct one. If it weren’t for the opening doors I’d get rid of it LOL.
    Awesome content like the VNAV info. Though I’m surprised it’s not more automatic on calculating the altitudes for you. I’m really enjoying the CJ4 Mod it’s so good.

    • @MrJorvilla84

      It mostly depends on the airport if it is using ASDE-X which is requested to have it on. However; please search for ASFO 15006 where the FAA states: "all operators and pilots of the need to ensure that transponders are in the altitude reporting mode whenever their aircraft is on an airport movement area at all airports."

  • @ChrisCrosdale
    @ChrisCrosdale 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I think the VNAV button on the AP Controls will automatically capture and control the decent of the aircraft once the aircraft hits the TOD mark, you just have to make sure that the altitude selected with the ALT knob (in blue) remains below the set altitude minimums at each waypoint on the VNAV approach (in magenta). If not, as a safety feature I think, the aircraft will stop descending if the set altitude is higher than the VNAV number. I don't think this will take you all the way to the runway threshold for landing, but if the airport has a Localizer for the arrival runway (and you remember to set that in the NAV Radio settings), you can switch to LOC in the "Active NAV" on the PFD, hit APR on the Autopilot, and that will take you all the way down to the ground typically.

    So VNV doesn't actually capture the glide path during the descent. You have to manually adjust rate of descent through VS mode.
    I've also noticed that during RNAV approaches, approach mode doesn't capture the glide path.

    Turning the transponder on while on the ground has to do with if the airport uses an Airport Surface Detection Equipment (ASDE &ASDE-X). This is ground radar that uses both primary and secondary radar to paint the aircraft on the ground on the appropriate taxiways. SLC and other large (core 30 usually) in the US have this requirement. I’m sure it’s the same in other parts of the world just check the Airfield Diagram.

    To answer your question about the Transponder and whether to turn on prior to the runway. Most modern complex acft have the transponder tied in with the squat switch on the main gear. GCA may require your transponder on while at large airports, but the altitude encoding does not activate till your off the ground. Acft I flew in the Army required the transponder on once entering the runway (fixed) gear.

  • @skyybirds

    Will the ATC allow u to do that V profile from VNAV, I believe in the real world u can indicate VNAV profile in the flight plan and ATC will just allow u to do it in Normal conditions.

    I have a question, when I'm flying my beautiful TBM stock (no mods) the autopilot fly banking left or right, if I active the LVL button on top of the AP the TBM fly lvl but as soon I active the AP the same thing happens, when I put the mods nothing seems to change, any thoughts? thanks if anyone can help me.

    Hey Overkilll, really enjoy your videos - they are very well made and keenly focused on the good stuff. I may just have to subscribe to your Patreon to get to the really good stuff. That said, I thought I’d share a little discovery i made with you and whomever reads this. Did you know that you don’t have to use that very thin scroll bar on the FMS? That’s right, it’s designed for touch, so basically you can click/hold/swipe on any area of the screen that isn’t a button and scroll through the flight plan, etc. Pretty cool eh?

    Can you make a video on how you take off. I see that you set your speed bug, hit togga bring n1-2 up to 50 percent but when I try it, it's like the fmc dose not take over and the longitude just goes past my speed bug setting... could you help me out with understanding this better step by step please...

    Excellent video and very helpful. One question: At 30:03, you activate the SPD button without explanation, although you mention elsewhere in the video that this aircraft does not have auto throttle. What does the SPD button actually do in a plane without auto throttle? Thanks for your response.

    Anybody remember when Realair Simulations came up with their smooth gauge technology so all the gauges were silky smooth. Hope somebody comes up with similar for the MFD’s so they move like butter smooth.

    • @texnorthman

      Did they not move much smoother when MSFS launched? I could swear they did, but maybe that is just wishful thinking.

If the pilot “spotted the deck” and pulled the power back, instead of flying the meatball, his debrief abbreviation was DLATFATM. Dropped like a turd from a tall moose !
