Time to fight off the Ruler of Darkness, Yami! This is it...the final battle! Copyrights to Okami belong to former Clover, ReadyatDawn Studios (for Wii port), and ultimately Capcom.
I actually really liked how you basically only really hear about Yami once, from Ninetails. It sort of makes him the opposite of Amaterasu - Ammy's the center of the pantheon of gods, and the most well known, whereas Yami, as the mastermind of darkness, is so good at manipulating others to do his work that only the highest ranking demons are even aware of him, let alone the rest of the world. well next up is the gathering of the stray beads. The reward is really cool, dont spoil it for yourself if you dont already know it. I played through okami about 5 times, 2 of which i have gathered the stray beads in. if you get the S-rank for the whole game (after the credits i think) then you can call yourself a good player
I have no idea why, but I've become obsessed with Yami. And I don't usually get obsessed with evil things. At least, I don't think I do. Maybe it's because he's really powerful.
The storyline was amazing!, One of the reasons I kept coming back to see what happened next!, I don't really think you needed to get to know Yami, you knew he was evil, the only thing that wasn't really explained was his backstory, either that or I can't remember it.
Because it was inscribed in LEGEND. The fact that he had been waiting on that ark for God-knows-how-long To Destroy Ammy makes him an even more Dark and intimidating enemy.
The Forms and Their Meaning of Humanity and Evil: Red Ball = Desire to Destroy Green Ball = Desire to Incinerate Blue Ball = Desire to Gamble and Take Risks Yellow Ball= Desire to Create Machines of Mass Destruction Final Form = Evil Comes From Human Hands Core (Fish) = Evil starts small
I feel like the final form isn't "Evil comes from human hands" as everyone says it is, but rather the fact that, in the end, it is not the evil that infected humanity, but humanity that created the evil, hence a hand, as hands are often times associated with creation rather than infection.
In that case, I think a lot of the enjoyment of the game passed you by unfortunately. I enjoyed Okami so thoroughly because of how deeply engaging its characters and story were, and it's sad that it didn't make the same impact on everyone, but oh well. Still though, I'm glad you enjoyed the parts of the game that you did.
I honestly don't know why people hate Yami, I mean, he was actually a worthy opponent and pretty fun to fight. I personally think he's my favorite(maybe because of the OC's I draw of them xP ). I haven't really seen him do much in the game, I just wish he had more to do with the whole story, like the story of Orochi terrorizing Kamiki Village.
Relating back to what Jhugh95 said, you don't even know who Akuro is until the second game comes out, much less figure out that he is the controller of Yami, while in Okamiden everyone you meet has at least heard of Amaterasu once. Amaterasu is known due to she herself going out and saving everyone, while Akuro uses other mediums to do his work, only known until the very end.
Underrated analogy, seeing as a Dandelion is a natural thing, spawned from nature itself. And the lawnmower is a creation of humans, as a way of shaping the world to suit our preferences, regardless of natures rules.
I think i get it. Their really was no build build up for yami. While it is established that he's the main villan it's all focused on late in the game. And the bits you do find out early aren't really focused on long enough to give you a feeling that he's the one responsible for everything else that happed to you.
I've been through quite a journey, haven't I? Every step.. Every action.. They all led to this moment. I.. I have to bring all light and hope back to the world we all love. Yami, as we all know, is a fish with similar markings to mine, but blue. He has engolfed himself into a machine and brought darkness to the world out of pure SADNESS and RAGE. He wasn't having a good life, so why should they? Thus begun the darkest times.. The darkest hours.. I.. am against Yami. I.. am Okami Amaterasu.
Unfortunately I can tell you that I didn't have any of those moments. The moment I cared about the most was when Susano revealed his skepticism, and when he wasn't a fool. I wasn't sure what to expect from the storyline. It was an immersive world, but not really an immersive story. Aside from the difficulty, the story is one of my negative points, but aside from that, the game was fun, enjoyable, and probably the most creative game I have ever seen, and I hope to play through it again soon.
The storyline was absolutely incredible, and I would argue one of, if not the, best gaming story lines of all time. The game managed to invest you so much into each and every character you met, which in turn allowed for them to do some incredible things with the plot while making people still care about it. Don't tell me you didn't at least get some hair standing on end when Oki's sword lit up, or when Amaterasu was revived by the people of Nippon's prayers.
@Ilovemariofan I wrote my comment after beating Okamiden. It is really a good sequel. Even if Clover dissapeared, Okami still lives and has a bright future...That is why I want too see more of Yami
"First Form: Humanity's desire to destroy. Second Form: Humanity's desire to burn (use wood and coal and damages nature). Third Form: Humanity's desire to gamble (aka risk their and others lives). Fourth Form: Humanity's desire to use energy for destructive ends. Final Form: Humanity's uses their hands for evil. True Organic Self: Something so small can be very dangerous and anything born is innocent but can become evil." -quote by 18bryflo11 He truly the embodiment of all that is evil.
@tehjonbro NO. He's not actually a seal in a hamster ball, thats his true form, but I can see why people think that since it does look similar. Also, his main body isn't really a bouncy ball, its a giant inorganic shell that seems to be able to morph. But he is epic.
@Danitushful Actually form one represents Man's desire to destroy, form 4 is Man's desire to use technology Form 5 can also be described as humanity uses its hands for evil. And don't forget the core which represents that great evil can come from something small. In a sense Yami is the representation of humanity's primal vices..
It makes sense with in the context of the game since much of the game is about casting out evil where ever it may be possible. I don't think the game is anti human at all but it does show case that evil can come from places we least expect.
@CaptainAnamaria He's a seel thing with no hands. Even in his 4th form it's difficult to hold a paintbrush with what appears to be... idk, energy whips? You'd have to be indiana jones to paint even just a circle with that.
There's an interesting dichotomy between Yami and Amaterasu that you may not realize - while Ammy is certainly more than she seems, while Yami is LESS than he seems. The true form of Yami - the thing that is in its core, is a small, probably helpless fish-like creature. Without that protective armor, and its dark power and its manipulations, Yami is nothing but a sad sack of evil meat.
Friendly reminder that we have NEVER been given any official context for what any part of Yami’s design means or has been derived from. This mystery has not been made any more clear even after a decade. It’s entirely possible that they literally just did it because they thought it was funny.
You know, what I never understood was why Waka's swords(one of which is essentially a lightsaber) couldn't do anything to Yami, but Amaterasu's teeth and claws could do damage.
You can surely afford it, pre-owned versions can be really cheap and yes, you MUST try it. It's very different from Okami but it's nonetheless one of the greatest PS2 experiences. It's funny, hard and just fucking badass all the way.
@colonel24567 They didn't go bankrupt, and they've come back as Platinum Games. They've released a few games including Bayonetta which has a bunch of references to Okami, Devil May Cry and Viewtiful Joe. Heck, the best weapon is Pillow Talk. Yes, that Pillow Talk. Also, Okamiden! You're wrong on both counts, and it must feel great.
@Doomed100 Also, it seems as if Yami is a machine-type of form, while no other technology exists across Nippon. If you add it together, then its possible the creators are suggesting that technology is the root of all evil.
Aw, I'm a little disappointed this doesn't have the original name for the song in-game; "The Emperor of Darkness" If that isn't the name of a final boss theme, I don't know what is.

@@anonymousalien7417 The true form of Yami is inside the sphere. See that little ball? Well that's him. He's like fish fetus inside a bowl. There you can see his cyan markings.
@@outofmyriver7346 Oh. I knew he was a Koi, but I never saw the cyan markings. I play on the Wii, so it's kind of hard to see detail in the smaller objects in the game.
@@outofmyriver7346 Okay, I just looked at a close up of him, and there is definitely cyan markings. You guys were right.
A theme fitting for the Ruler of Darkness that wishes to plunge the world into Eternal Darkness.
One word to describe this.... EPIC!!!!
+FefeTheWolfLover you are NOT wrong ^^
One of my two favourite Final Bosses together with Xemnas.
Xenmas and Yami should team up.
Yami and ZANZA!
Xenmas was FAR too difficult to be satisfying in any way.
@@maxrichards3881 I must disagree. I have plenty of fun replaying Data Xemnas (the super boss Version of that fight) again and again and Story Xemnas is not that hard.
I love these Data super boss fights.
I can't be the only one who find it amazing that I have played through Okami 3 times, and each time I beat this boss fight, I got an S rank, right? (S rank is where the trees for both Time and Damage are blooming.)
well next up is the gathering of the stray beads.
Yami is the embodiment of the dark desires of humanity, the creators of technology.
Me: HOLY SAIX!!! THAT THING IS HEE-YUUUUGE!
Yami: *shows true form*
Me: ...a goldfish? That's it? A GOLDFISH?!?!?
It's supposed to represent that all evil starts out small
It's gotta be Orca
Because it was inscribed in LEGEND. The fact that he had been waiting on that ark for God-knows-how-long To Destroy Ammy makes him an even more Dark and intimidating enemy.
This battle was really something! Such great music
when shit gets real.
The Forms and Their Meaning of Humanity and Evil:
Red Ball = Desire to Destroy
Green Ball = Desire to Incinerate
Blue Ball = Desire to Gamble and Take Risks
Yellow Ball= Desire to Create Machines of Mass Destruction
Final Form = Evil Comes From Human Hands
Core (Fish) = Evil starts small
I feel like the final form isn't "Evil comes from human hands" as everyone says it is, but rather the fact that, in the end, it is not the evil that infected humanity, but humanity that created the evil, hence a hand, as hands are often times associated with creation rather than infection.
Ronald Cooper and where’d you hear that from, Chuggaaconroy? That was merely his own interpretation, there’s no official source confirming it.
Amaterasu is known due to she herself going out and saving everyone, while Akuro uses other mediums to do his work, only known until the very end.
truly the most fun battle of the entire game. A really fitting end to the game
Light: a dandelion
Darkness: the lawnmower that cuts it down
But the dandelion always comes back, only to be struck down
Underrated analogy, seeing as a Dandelion is a natural thing, spawned from nature itself.
And the lawnmower is a creation of humans, as a way of shaping the world to suit our preferences, regardless of natures rules.
The greatest of evils really do come from the smallest of things. Even a little fish-foetus thing in an oversized Bakugan.
ah, yes, the final boss: orb
I simply LOVE this music. Especially this part: 1:37 to 2:00!! SIMPLY LOVE IT!!!!
"Really? As if those last five repeated bosses weren't enough?"
Damn, i love this game.
Clown piece A fetus, not a fish I think.
I love the beginning of the piece.
I have to approve of your choice, you seem to have good taste.
I still love this song! I'm so excited for the new game omg 🌸
@TheLilcatfishy ...that was beautiful. No idea what it meant, but it was definatly deep.
Yami nothing more than a tiny blob inside a big robot :3
+Latiran He's a fish.
Something seems a little FISHY about that....
Yami was a dark koi fish... the yin in "yin and yang"
@Ilovemariofan I wrote my comment after beating Okamiden. It is really a good sequel. Even if Clover dissapeared, Okami still lives and has a bright future...That is why I want too see more of Yami
And in one fell swoop, chuggaconroy took over the entire comment section
"First Form: Humanity's desire to destroy.
Second Form: Humanity's desire to burn (use wood and coal and damages nature).
Third Form: Humanity's desire to gamble (aka risk their and others lives).
Fourth Form: Humanity's desire to use energy for destructive ends.
Final Form: Humanity's uses their hands for evil.
True Organic Self: Something so small can be very dangerous and anything born is innocent but can become evil."
-quote by 18bryflo11
He truly the embodiment of all that is evil.
Sounds like something from final fantasy, but perfectly fits in this game!!
Akuro was probably not even invented before Okamiden.
@tehjonbro NO. He's not actually a seal in a hamster ball, thats his true form, but I can see why people think that since it does look similar. Also, his main body isn't really a bouncy ball, its a giant inorganic shell that seems to be able to morph. But he is epic.
Always interesting to me the shift around 1:40 and then again later
*Forgets all the brush techniques..*
FFFFUUUUUU-
@Danitushful Actually form one represents Man's desire to destroy, form 4 is Man's desire to use technology Form 5 can also be described as humanity uses its hands for evil.
There is nothing to tell. Yami was just an evil mass of dark energy that was bent on destroying and killing everything.
@CaptainAnamaria
He's a seel thing with no hands.
Even in his 4th form it's difficult to hold a paintbrush with what appears to be... idk, energy whips? You'd have to be indiana jones to paint even just a circle with that.
My first thought: It's a ball with a hand on it. How bad could this be?
[five hours later]
HOW HAVE I NOT DONE ANY DAMAGE TO HIM STILL?!?!
You know, what I never understood was why Waka's swords(one of which is essentially a lightsaber) couldn't do anything to Yami, but Amaterasu's teeth and claws could do damage.
can't remember during, but after(when the battle resumes), is called either Rising Sun, or The Sun Rises. People use both a lot =/
This song is so epic.
This song sounds so mystical, lugubrious and extramundane ! it's absolutely intriguing and passionating to hear
You can surely afford it, pre-owned versions can be really cheap and yes, you MUST try it. It's very different from Okami but it's nonetheless one of the greatest PS2 experiences. It's funny, hard and just fucking badass all the way.
1:32 - 1:38 anyone else get a pokemon diamond and pearl vibe?
Sealion Lover I think this part appeared in the capital, I don't remember where tho
It has a giratina esque vive
@colonel24567 They didn't go bankrupt, and they've come back as Platinum Games. They've released a few games including Bayonetta which has a bunch of references to Okami, Devil May Cry and Viewtiful Joe. Heck, the best weapon is Pillow Talk. Yes, that Pillow Talk.
Also, Okamiden! You're wrong on both counts, and it must feel great.
@TheSuperEricWarshot
1. He never speaks.
2. Ninetails mentions him before the bossfight.
3. Yes he is actually.
One of the best themes I have heard
@CloudGaara9 yeah, well, there are many theories about what its Yami... but one thing its sure, he is the darkness itself
@Doomed100 Also, it seems as if Yami is a machine-type of form, while no other technology exists across Nippon. If you add it together, then its possible the creators are suggesting that technology is the root of all evil.
Aw, I'm a little disappointed this doesn't have the original name for the song in-game; "The Emperor of Darkness"
If that isn't the name of a final boss theme, I don't know what is.
i know, but im pointing out that it also kida looks like Yami's final form. The moon had the same appearance when fighting ninetails.
final boss
I haven't played this game in a long time. I should.
Tatsunoko Vs Capcom U.A.S. announcer: Ready? Fight!
Dude, I am Shiranui. That's just the name that the people of Kamiki called me cause they didn't know who I really was.
@MrAuthor3DS The quote is by 18bryflo11 (I acknowledged him at the end of the comment). It was just such a great quote that I had to spread it.
the theroy is that its supposed to be symbolic that even the weekest/inoccent things can be capable of the biggest evil.
plus i bet it was a being of light before akura got his greedy eye on him
Yami....The most villianous fish you'll ever encounter.
Marco Diaz: Prince of Dragons vs. Robin: Ruler of Darkness.
(This music plays)
ever notice how the symol behind the word "Okami" kinda looks like a ball with a hand on it?
