One of my favorite bosses in the whole game, and totally beasted it on my first try! ;D Sorry that the audio is a bit effed up I don't know what happened there. 3: I think my recorder had some weird audio settings or something.
Easiest way to go about this fight? Inferno. Damages all enemies and kills them rather fast. Watch out for the purple beams, they actually got me once when I miscalculated my landing. ;P I also recommend using the Glaive as your default weapon, but Reflector works too. Don't bother with the Rosary as your default until Ninetails' final form.
Always cherry bomb Ninetails in the beginning and after you kill off her first four tails, it cancels out all her other moves and makes her pull out her sword, making the fight much faster and easier.
I would have killed her quicker if I had remembered to pull out the Rosary faster than I did. Sue me. :L
This was probably one of my favorite bosses in the game. I loved its flamboyant appearance, its fast attacks, the fact that it can use its own brush against yours, and the way you strip away its opulent disguise to reveal its ugly nature, both of the boss and the arena.
Not to mention the music. Okami has one of the best OSTs I have ever seen.
Oh definitely. In terms of mechanics and gameplay, Yami is my favourite Ōkami bossfight, but Ninetails is easily the best villain in terms of characterization and story implementation.

I loved Lechku and Nechku, seriously, mechanical owls wearing hats, mustaches and monocles that stop time ?
They look down on the gods and yet they imitate the gods by hiding inside a constellation and using the celestial brush technique.
I think its meant to be a mockery of the Celestial brush gods considering Ninetails' mask is also meant to be a mockery of Amaterasu's divine appearance, as well as the Nine Strike(Ninetails' sword) being a mockery of the Seven Strike. Issue himself comments how a constellation could shine in such an evil place before amaterasu completes the constellation and realizes that its ninetails.

Realize that quality art is timeless regardless of how advanced technology gets. Higher pixel density and more cpu power doesn't meant past creativity becomes inferior.

Ninetails in this game is honestly the most badass of boss fights. You can feel his evil nature and his rageful pride. He's got that intimidating stature and energy and when the mask comes off, you are almost expecting to get slashed in one shot with the angered glare he gives
As soon as I put the final dot in the constellation I knew something was wrong, it was honestly terrifying
riiiight? Thats how it was on my first playthrough considering I wanted no spoilers ahead of time XD The team behind the game knew what they were doing when they put that sound in on the constellation reveal :O
For me the most terrifying part of the boss was when I saw the red brush stroke. I'm like holy shit. Gotta draw faster.

Same here with the brush stroke. In a lot of battles prior to this one, I used the brush menu to gather my thoughts and strategize on how fight the enemy. Not being allowed that time due to Ninetails coming in to cancel my strokes only heightened that fear and anxiety I felt. Truly an amazing fight.
And I thought I was good at this game. You are so quick on the brush that even she can't cross out your strokes.

yeohthomas Same, except I'll be doing that on my pc. This was one of my favorite games, so much I played it multiple times even with the abundance of spiders.
It's so awesome that u get to play Okami HD on PC. That way u can improve your drawing techniques in computer.

Ninetails is one of my favorite Okami Characters he's so fun to fight and I like Foxes especially Kitsune Foxes.
This should’ve been the final boss imo. The setup was perfect, the design is amazing, the fight itself is fast and kinda hard.
I'm glad it wasn't because it would have left the story unfinished since Yami's still out there.
Though I have never played this game, I froze in horror when I seen the constellation LOL
honestly on my first playthrough, that moment was just, like OH....NO.
It is so cool because the other constellations were deitys that were part of Amaterasu, but this was a fake one and even emulated her brush techniques and appearance.
Ninetails walk is fucking hilarious I wish we could see it from another angle lol
Ninetails is my favorite boss in video game history. It's so powerful it could destroy Nippon if it wanted to but instead would rather watch it suffer either it's possessing the Water Dragon or creating a disease killing everyone slowly and painfully.
Great job on what is probably the coolest (and hardest?) boss-fight in Okami.
hardest is the kusa 5, but this is sure the coolest.
As someone who has played this game a lot, there are not many fights that scare me, but Ninetails is always one of the few that makes me brace myself.
If only you also got all the Demon Fangs from the split tails...
You can get treasure from them if u have the theifs glove equipped, so I guess that counts

@@ChaosContrl i understood what you meant but treasure aka money is better than getting nothing from them. I do wish we could've gotten demon fangs from them but you can't get them from bosses anyway lol

I do consider Tamamo no Mae/ Ninetails to be the most dangerous yokai in Japanese mythology because it could manipulate anyone and also has magic powers to create illness and all that jazz. She’s more terrifying than Yamata no Orochi

@@empty-voiid The official Okami artworks book does refer to Ninetails as male "The demon leader residing on Oni Island. By manipulating both light and dark forces, *he* throws all who oppose him into a put of despair."
The artworks also refer to the likes of Yami, Blight, Lechku & Nechku as male also.
You're really good with the Fiery Inferno Brush Technique. That is one that I tend to struggle with.
Also, kudos on the shield: usually I just slow down time and get out of the way. 🦊
What if...Ninetales was not actually a pure demon kitsune with a god complex mockingly imitating Ammy and the celestials...she was formally one of them for real (She still has her own constellation) and was cast out/fell from grace ala Lucifer/Satan
That would be an interesting backstory if it turned out she was a former celestial god. I wonder what heinous thing she did to get kicked out of there.
I always thought that the first time I played through Okami too, was surprised most people seem to think Ninetails just copy the other celestial brush gods.
Also doesn't Ninetails randomly use a brush pattern which Ammy never gets ingame ? (It's been long since I last played aa)

Ah recently played the switch version and got to this boss, and not really ^^’ ninetails uses the same brush skills you use, so it’s more of a race every time you go into brush mode
I though he reached the power of it by his own and he figured how to overwrite reality
In some versions of mythology Tamamo no Mae/Nine Tails is essentially Amaterasu's evil side made manifest.
I'd been wondering what would happen if you didn't hit their sword with lightning, but I never tried it for myself.
On that note, it's pretty cool to see a duel against the final form without zapping them, even though seeing the final body slowly dragging itself along is amusing.
WOAH i didn't know that you can use the bomb trick in ninetails to make show his/her sword!
Watching you fill the whole screen with instant fire to beat one minion of the actual boss is hilarious.
Geez trying to use the brush quickly before she could counter brush was tough haha!

My favorite thing about Ninetails is how they control space by sidestepping to cut you off from getting around them, especially when you’re against the side of the arena. I wish more of the fight was actually going toe to toe with them instead of waiting for the sword to go up.
I take it that they increased the money rewards for the bosses in the HD version? I just did Ninetails today on my PS2 version and got 81.000 yen with a “perfect score”. Otherwise I loved how you humiliated this boss, revenge for Himiko.

I wonder why the mask flies off after u defeat his minions.
I think of it like this: The true Ninetails is actually just the one tailed fox, and it needed the fox rods to give it all of those tails. The fox rods manifest as the 'minions', and once they're all defeated, Ninetails returns to being the tired old fox it was before because it doesn't have the fox rods backing it up anymore.
Well, I just hope whoever wore that mask does not get manipulated by the darkness. Thanks for the theory. But I really like the design of the mask.

im-so-2460-done I mean the current mask that Ninetails (Kyuubi) is wearing. Not the other 8 clones. Except the inside of his mask was dark.
In my opinion, I don't think whoever wore that mask can be easily brainwashed. Afterall, the mask that Nintetails was wearing was just a mockery over Ammy's divine appearance.

You can power slash the divided forms, uses less ink than inferno.

@@thethe2645 this was recorded before the PC version was a twinkle in Capcom's eyes. Assuming people have a hard time aiming and assuming they are using controller, Inferno is the most efficient.

... Why didn't you used the real mechanics against this boss ? In the last phase: Thunder on the Sword before he hits with it, and stop time when he dashes on you x')

What's wrong with using items ?
The Holy Slips items are surprisely over power and broken in this game.
It's deal almighty damage in big radius and give no invisible frame on the boss. So you can speedrun and spam like 3-4 that items and the boss battle is over. (My fist re-run with spider queen only cost me 2 and it end the instant she show her eyes weekness)
Not to mention the infinity ink item alow you spam brush tech like crazy.
So, have a boss fight doesn't rely on the item and no-damage is quite a feast, at least.

@@HyperFerret93 Tbh it's really hard to loose damage in this game x) You have the divinity levels, then a lot of solar orbs that you can easily get back with very cheap bones. And even if you die, with all the food you've gathered in the game, you can still revive. I had to look for the death scene to know it existed xD
