14 years later, playing this on the Switch, the game hasn't aged a day. That art style can't age poorly, which is part of its beauty. A fantastic story that tells many Japanese folk tales to the uninitiated, with bits for those who already know, this game is perfect.

I always thought this boss fight was awesome, alongside this music, beacuse it's one of the few times a game lets you feel like you have the upper hand against the boss, with Ammy's sudden power boost, and the triumphant music, instead of some ominous latin chanting making the boss out to be some insurmountable wall. You are the goddess of the sun, all of humanity is behind you, and nothing is going stand in your way.
I played Okami when it first released back in 2006. It took me 7 days of nonstop playing to complete it. That week has always stuck in my heart, and Okami is one of the very few true 10/10 games I've played
I really love this song. It's so serene and calm compared to other final boss music, yet it captures perfectly the feeling of this fight. The sun has risen, your powers are back, and you're filled with a calm yet intense sense of determination. Basically you've already won, because you're *frickin' Amaterasu*
This song is just so amazing. The fight with Yami is pretty darn intense. While not particularly difficult, the fight still has a very bleak, almost hopeless feeling. You start with basically no powers, and have to struggle against him for the majority of the fight, as you slowly gain your abilities back...but at the same time, Yami only continues to grow more powerful as well. Then, he strikes you down. The moment you let your guard down, you are left wounded, powerless, and at the mercy of Yami...but then...the entire world calls out to you. Everyone you've met, everyone you've helped...they all come to your aid, they share their power with you...and with their prayers, wishes, and hopes, you gain all your power back and then some, as THIS music starts. The entire world is on your side, lending you their strength...and with that power, you can now burn away the darkness, and CRUSH the dark lord like the bug he is! That is why this song is so great...while it is an amazing song by itself, the way it is used in the game is just incredible. After the power struggle the boss fight was until this point, this music screams "You have the upper hand(or paw)! Yami is nothing before you now!" It's so empowering, and just makes you feel like you CANNOT lose!

I remember picking up this game after randomly hearing Chuggaaconroy mention it (long before the LP), and I've never regretted it. In a matter of days, the game went from a blip on my radar to being among my top 5 favorite games of all time. This game is beautiful, not just visually, but also artistically. It is easily one of the most compelling games I've ever played, and it is so wonderfully deep in symbolism and meaning that I still learn new things to this day, over 5 years later. And this song! This song! Simply breathtaking! *I love this game.*
I just learned about Okami recently and I have to say my first thought was "HOW DID I NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS?" I could of had such a better childhood. The Okami franchise is definitely one of the best, least capitalized series I've ever seen, from what I've read. If Zelda can make a thousand remakes why can't I have Okami 2 (Okamiden doesn't count, even though I liked that one too)? :(
Personally I couldn't stand the gameplay. I know "I'm bad" or something but I got lost in one of the first big areas and stuck at the beginning of the game and I can't stand games that I have to use a walkthrough to enjoy. But the story, art style, and music are great imo...
This is the best battle music I've ever heard! At this point, I knew that this game was something special. I cried like a little baby right before this started playing. To hear this come on, I didn't know what to do with myself anymore. I didn't know which emotion was appropriate. Never has anything ever done something like this to me. Felt great playing Okami again after 2 years. The art style is just amazing for me and I love the mechanics. I nearly teared because of this song. I was also lucky that I knew where all the stray beads were at the time too haha. I would seriously recommend this game to anybody that haven't even played it yet and give it a chance. If they seem to enjoy it, they should get Okamiden for the Nintendo DS.

Okami is an amazing game. It really is unforgettable. It has beautiful art, a riveting story, and very smooth but unique gameplay. It's not one of those games that boasts fast-paced, action-filled gameplay. It really lets you slow down for a bit and just focus on what's really important, appreciate nature more. It's such a cultural game, the culture which stems from an appreciation of nature. It really opens your eyes to the beauty of the world and the delicate balance between life and death

Then they could have shared in the beauty first hand like us who were able to experience this game as it was meant to be experienced.
TheLastVoodooMan Still has things cut out. Only the original has everything it's supposed to have, as after that they had to remove anything that referenced Clover Studio. That included the ending credits, which were beautiful all on their own.
I cannot believe I missed out years ago on this gem. This is a work of art. Playing the HD version was wonderful. It truly deserves the respect and honor it has earned for its accomplishments. Much like Issun and the people mirroring our own, we must be the envoys who write the tales of Okami to the gaming masses. As long as we keep writing and telling them, that goddess wolf will never die in our hearts and minds.
As soon as I watched this final battle on Chugga's LP while the music played, I had emotions that hardly any other final boss theme gave me. The intense yet beautiful feel of this theme is a sign that even things look bleak, you'll never be alone to face your troubles for the people that believe in you. Rei Kondoh is a genius for making final boss themes intense and uplifting at the same time. This, Id ~ Purpose from Fire Emblem Awakening, and Jergingah (Planet Destruction Form) from The Wonderful 101 are some of the best final boss themes I ever heard in video game history.
You sound like someone who would enjoy the _Pokémon Mystery Dungeon_ series. I really, REALLY recommend you to give 'em a try (the second one, _Explorers of Sky_, has kind of an unequaled story). Had _Blue Rescue Team_ (the first one) and Explorers of Sky for YEARS until I decided to play them. I wouln't be exagerating by saying it's one of the best decisions I ever made.

Imagine it like this: You're watching the reveal trailer for the final Smash Bros Ultimate fighter for DLC Pass 2. It's a scene showing all the fighters, including every DLC fighter up until now, fighting against Dharkon. Our heroes are running out of strength, their opponent proving to be too powerful, even with their combined might. Even Palutena is despairing over the battle. Palutena: It's no use, even my light cannot pierce it's darkness! Pit: We can't give up now! If we lose, the world will be done for! Zelda: I'm so sorry everyone... Palutena: If only we had the power of the Sun on our side... Dharkon extends all of his tendrils once last time to finish off the army of fighters... before the screen freezes on a side view of the battle, and all the color turns to a brownish sepia tone. A black dot forms above Dharkon's tendrils, then cascades down to trace a straight line, resulting in the tendrils being chopped in half. The fighters are all in shock and confusion over what had just happened. Dharkon attempts to attack again, but a series of black ink dots form on the ground and transform into trees, blocking Dharkon's assault. Palutena: What in heaven's name is happening?! No... could it really be? Everyone looks upwards towards the sky to see a black circle being drawn onto the dark clouds above, causing the blanket of darkness to be pierced the by the rays of the sun. The light from the Sun severely weakens and debilitates Dharkon, causing it to recoil in pain. Upon hearing the distant howl of a wolf, Palutena turns to face a cliff behind the army of fighters, and catches sight of a lupine silhouette perched upon the bluff. Palutena: By the gods it is true! A fellow goddess has come to our aid! The figure then jumps into the air and descends downward to reveal itself as a white wolf covered in red markings: AMATERASU ILLUMINATES THE DARKNESS! ... then this song plays.
It's the game that got me interested in Japanese culture and the first one I ever completed at 100%. There is a second one though, it's called Okamidēn and it's on NDS. It even has an English localisation !
Just finished this game today. The highlights, to me: Almost every single technique you learn through the course of the game ends up being used during the final boss encounter, and that's a lot of techniques. (Even the "Restoration" spell!) Not to mention the sappy, but inspirational, cutscene with Issun towards the end - and a great way of using the Sun technique, Okami's signature, to drive in the impact.

Now that Capcom has been on a roll for quite a few years, I think it'd be a great opportunity to bring Okami back for new audiences, be it with a full remake with better controls, bigger seamless world and stuff, or another sequel or maybe prequel
This, FE:A's "Id (Purpose)" and "Diva" from Guilty Gear: Overture are probably the most unique themes that give you motivation to utterly annihilate the final boss

Final battle musics I hear these days sound so evil. It's like the bad guys have the upper hand. But when Okami comes in, it uses a heroic song as a final battle music showing that the hero (Or Goddess) completely has the upper hand and will slay the superior evil with her power.
Even better is that the first several phases of the fight used the traditional way and had the boss's theme as the battle music...and then your own characters theme completely fucking overrides it.
Through out this game it is sometimes easy to forget that Ammy is literally the Goddess of the Sun and the Mother of All, but damn this song, and the moment that it kicks in during the fight against Yami after you power up, really makes you feel like an unstoppable force of nature.

I remember when i got this game back when i was 10 years old. I got it as a Christmas gift. I had no idea what it was and was a bit bummed out about the gift. But holy fuck, when i played it i couldn't stop. The art style, the story and characters, and oh my god the music, they were all so amazing. I'm so glad i was able to experience this game when I was younger and it will always hold a special place in my heart.

I reached to the last boss of Tatsunoko vs Capcom. When suddenly a boss with the name of Yami appeared out of nowhere, i was wondering where i have heard that name... Then in the last fase, this music played....I immediately remembered that it was from Okami..Even i was happy lol. Though, it would have been wonderful if Amaterasu would have been playable... I mean, Yami is there for God sake!..How wonderful is this music, that even made it to a fighting game?.
I bought this game because it was $20 on Ebay and I'm glad I did bought it because its such a great game. Hopefully Capcom can make an another Okami game.
MrMerchiodos Thats never gonna happen for a big stupid fficial reason. Capcom are arrogant and only cares about money and they officially keep stating cocky comments like "any game that doesn't get 2 million isn't getting a sequel!" and "If this game has no DLC potential, its not being made" - I read the official CEO plan and it was really long and boring to read and I only read 40% of it. So basically, because megaman, breath of fire, strider and okami (and more) don't have dlc potential and doesn't make more than 2 million, thats never gonna happen. And okami has sold 0.6 million as the most according to VGchartz. Capcom is almost bankrupt so someone else will continue it. Before they go bankrupt, they'll be keeping okami and the other games hostage.
To think I watched my family play this so many years ago when I was very young and I finally got the chance to play it last year for Christmas.. I never ended up beating it but hands down. Felt great playing Okami again after 2 years. The art style is just amazing for me and I love the mechanics. I nearly teared because of this song. I was also lucky that I knew where all the stray beads were at the time too haha. I would seriously recommend this game to anybody that haven't even played it yet and give it a chance. If they seem to enjoy it, they should get Okamiden for the Nintendo DS.

Okami is an amazing game. It really is unforgettable. It has beautiful art, a riveting story, and very smooth but unique gameplay. It's not one of those games that boasts fast-paced, action-filled gameplay. It really lets you slow down for a bit and just focus on what's really important, appreciate nature more. It's such a cultural game, the culture which stems from an appreciation of nature. It really opens your eyes to the beauty of the world and the delicate balance between life and death

TheLastVoodooMan Still has things cut out. Only the original has everything it's supposed to have, as after that they had to remove anything that referenced Clover Studio. That included the ending credits, which were beautiful all on their own.

I cannot believe I missed out years ago on this gem. This is a work of art. Playing the HD version was wonderful. It truly deserves the respect and honor it has earned for its accomplishments. Much like Issun and the people mirroring our own, we must be the envoys who write the tales of Okami to the gaming masses. As soon as I watched this final battle on Chugga's LP while the music played, I had emotions that hardly any other final boss theme gave me. The intense yet beautiful feel of this theme is a sign that even things look bleak, you'll never be alone to face your troubles for the people that believe in you.
Rei Kondoh is a genius for making final boss themes intense and uplifting at the same time. This, Id ~ Purpose from Fire Emblem Awakening, and Jergingah (Planet Destruction Form) from The Wonderful 101 are some of the best final boss themes I ever heard in video game history.

I really, REALLY recommend you to give 'em a try (the second one, _Explorers of Sky_, has kind of an unequaled story).
Had _Blue Rescue Team_ (the first one) and Explorers of Sky for YEARS until I decided to play them.

I've never been touched by a game like I was at the ending of this one. I nearly cry every time I see it. Seeing Issun telling others about you and all their prayers going to you really does it for me. Just thinking about it now makes my eyes well up in tears. Most beautiful game that I've played.
Imagine it like this:
You're watching the reveal trailer for the final Smash Bros Ultimate fighter for DLC Pass 2. It's a scene showing all the fighters, including every DLC fighter up until now, fighting against Dharkon. Our heroes are running out of strength, their opponent proving to be too powerful, even with their combined might. Even Palutena is despairing over the battle.
Palutena: It's no use, even my light cannot pierce it's darkness!
Pit: We can't give up now! If we lose, the world will be done for!
Zelda: I'm so sorry everyone...
Palutena: If only we had the power of the Sun on our side...
Dharkon extends all of his tendrils once last time to finish off the army of fighters... before the screen freezes on a side view of the battle, and all the color turns to a brownish sepia tone. A black dot forms above Dharkon's tendrils, then cascades down to trace a straight line, resulting in the tendrils being chopped in half.
The fighters are all in shock and confusion over what had just happened. Dharkon attempts to attack again, but a series of black ink dots form on the ground and transform into trees, blocking Dharkon's assault.
Palutena: What in heaven's name is happening?! No... could it really be?
Everyone looks upwards towards the sky to see a black circle being drawn onto the dark clouds above, causing the blanket of darkness to be pierced the by the rays of the sun. The light from the Sun severely weakens and debilitates Dharkon, causing it to recoil in pain. Upon hearing the distant howl of a wolf, Palutena turns to face a cliff behind the army of fighters, and catches sight of a lupine silhouette perched upon the bluff.
Palutena: By the gods it is true! A fellow goddess has come to our aid!
The figure then jumps into the air and descends downward to reveal itself as a white wolf covered in red markings:
AMATERASU
ILLUMINATES THE DARKNESS!
... then this song plays.

I just finished okami for the 1000th time and it never gets old! I really hope they make a second one :)
It's the game that got me interested in Japanese culture and the first one I ever completed at 100%.
There is a second one though, it's called Okamidēn and it's on NDS. It even has an English localisation !
This theme always reminds me that I annually play Ōkami just to enjoy it all over again.
Just finished this game today. The highlights, to me: Almost every single technique you learn through the course of the game ends up being used during the final boss encounter, and that's a lot of techniques. (Even the "Restoration" spell!) Not to mention the sappy, but inspirational, cutscene with Issun towards the end - and a great way of using the Sun technique, Okami's signature, to drive in the impact.

Playing the Okami collab quest in Monster Hunter Rise recently, just hearing the theme song brings back all the good memories. Okami is one of those things in life that most people can only have good memories of
Imagine my excitement when I saw them put this game onto the switch. And looking back this game has not lost its splendor. And the final fight against the ruler of darkness Yami is still the stuff of legends.

it's been about 8 years since ive played this game, and I have played many since. I'm 21 now. And to this day, this is still one of the most badass hero music I've ever heard in my life...one of the reasons why it's still my favorite video game:) such POWER man! never gets old!

Final battle musics I hear these days sound so evil. It's like the bad guys have the upper hand. But when Okami comes in, it uses a heroic song as a final battle music showing that the hero (Or Goddess) completely has the upper hand and will slay the superior evil with her power.
Even better is that the first several phases of the fight used the traditional way and had the boss's theme as the battle music...and then your own characters theme completely fucking overrides it.
I am I literal tears, people dont even get how amazing this game was. This might sound cheesy but... it made me who I am today!

Man, whenever I hear this song I remember the emotional build up towards the last boss fight. Such good memories.
Through out this game it is sometimes easy to forget that Ammy is literally the Goddess of the Sun and the Mother of All, but damn this song, and the moment that it kicks in during the fight against Yami after you power up, really makes you feel like an unstoppable force of nature.
When this song begins, Yami knows he's screwed.

I remember when i got this game back when i was 10 years old. I got it as a Christmas gift. I had no idea what it was and was a bit bummed out about the gift. But holy fuck, when i played it i couldn't stop. The art style, the story and characters, and oh my god the music, they were all so amazing. I'm so glad i was able to experience this game when I was younger and it will always hold a special place in my heart.

I reached to the last boss of Tatsunoko vs Capcom. When suddenly a boss with the name of Yami appeared out of nowhere, i was wondering where i have heard that name...
Then in the last fase, this music played....I immediately remembered that it was from Okami..Even i was happy lol.
Though, it would have been wonderful if Amaterasu would have been playable... I mean, Yami is there for God sake!..How wonderful is this music, that even made it to a fighting game?.

Best game i've ever played
I bought this game because it was $20 on Ebay and I'm glad I did bought it because its such a great game. Hopefully Capcom can make an another Okami game.
MrMerchiodos Thats never gonna happen for a big stupid fficial reason. Capcom are arrogant and only cares about money and they officially keep stating cocky comments like "any game that doesn't get 2 million isn't getting a sequel!" and "If this game has no DLC potential, its not being made" - I read the official CEO plan and it was really long and boring to read and I only read 40% of it.
So basically, because megaman, breath of fire, strider and okami (and more) don't have dlc potential and doesn't make more than 2 million, thats never gonna happen. And okami has sold 0.6 million as the most according to VGchartz.
Capcom is almost bankrupt so someone else will continue it. Before they go bankrupt, they'll be keeping okami and the other games hostage.
Okamiden is the sequel. Pick it up, just as great as Okami.

To think I watched my family play this so many years ago when I was very young and I finally got the chance to play it last year for Christmas.. I never ended up beating it but hands down. Okami will always and forever be one of my most favorite games of all time, and it really didn't deserve to be dropped down like it did way back when.
