My S1 was racing green and I am now specifying my 240 FE so good to here your thoughts. The ‘Final addition’ piece grabbed my attention as well. Am I being nostalgic - maybe, but I went to drive a 220 last week expecting to dispel it as nostalgic, but what struck me is that it feels ultra modern. It’s been said in reviews but if it had never existed and was launched tomorrow we would all think it was brilliant. Sure its simple, but from what I understand future Lotuses will continue to develop the Aluminium platform. If you dont go Carbon for a tub, aluminium is a much better and more advanced way of building a tub than steel. It’s funny how Porsche pass off the hysterically outdated design of the 911 as evolution and somehow its thought the Elise is old fashioned. What really struck me however is how developed the car now is, it is much better built, much quieter, gear change is brilliant and its now decently quick. There is nothing that drives this well for the money which is ironically why this will be the last of its kind as Lotus move permanently up the price range and for that reason alone I am in. Personally I will defiantly go Soundproofing and Carpet, it makes the car very useable for 300+ miles, whereas a stripped out car is a lot more boomy. When are you getting delivery?

How about a yellow "lipstick" round the front grille, like on a Jaguar Project 7?
Concorde: Went to catch the BA shuttle to Newcastle to find to my complete surprise that BA had substituted Concorde on for two days to publicise a new extended timetable. I think my ticket was around £80 in 1983 and for that we got Chris Orlebar as captain, a full reheat take off at Heathrow and a short field/high angle of attack landing at Newcastle. We didn't go supersonic because we were over land, but the light lunch served on a tablecloth with silver cutlery and free champagne was excellent! Arriving at Newcastle there were several thousand aviation enthusiasts waiting to see Concorde come in and cheering us in to the Terminal. Days like that don't come along too often!

As an S2 Exige owner I think you've got this pretty much right. The brakes, AC (a must in summer, they get really hot inside), exhaust etc options are good. For the interior I'd have gone for the seats with leather outers/alcantara inners and some softer covering of the sill where your elbow rests a lot. Can't wait to see it, it's going to look amazing.

Thanks for sharing-quick input. The entire sound insulation pack on my 2006 weighs less than 3kg, most of that for the firewall insulation foam piece between engine and passenger compartment. I believe it also includes floor pan anti-resonance sheets (though they all may come with this?). In any case, both of those help cut out “bad” noise (panel resonance, engine hum) while enabling you to hear more of the good (tires on road, exhaust note). In my estimation worth the weight. Also, the Lithium battery does save in the neighborhood of 20lbs-by far the easiest place to save that much weight. But good point about needing to be on a maintainer, and perhaps more of a pain in general (low temps, etc).... Also, I own both an Elise and V6 Exige. Elise is more delicate, Exige more of a brute. Sounds like you’re set with the Elise, but I’d heartily recommend you drive a V6 Exige too if you haven’t already. They feel like very different cars-more so than the engine specs might indicate. Could be good insurance for whatever you choose.

An excellent start. Adding the Chapman Signature is a lovely touch. Adding the yellow exterior accents as ppt stage is a brilliant idea. My only thought would be to stick with black callipers - or anthracite - and then go full Lotus with Yellow wheels. Yellow spokes and rims centres with the anthracite remaining at the rim edges. Body: graphics: Single yellow stripe coming from yellow lipstick around the grill like the 1967 Type 49. It will need due care and attention to be paid the the design - which is why most just opt for the stripe. Happy to help with some design sketches if you like.

    Two observations:
    1. You’ve got to go red leather if you’re opting for the type 49
/ type 25 green and yellow. Didn’t spot this as an option but I’m sure they’d sort you out.
    2. Check out the type 18, took the first Lotus F1 victory and was Sir Stirling’s car. Also seen with red interior. I guess the modern colours would be nightfall blue with old English white stripes and / or mouth.

Definitely keep the air con. Roof up and touring / on track it make the cabin bearable (being so small they heat up quickly). Also the later cars have somewhat more reliable aircon. Also I may have missed it - spec the AO52 tyres over the V105 tyres, great grip although they don't last long. If you are bothered about weight the carbon engine/hard top cover makes the most difference over the GRP items. Enjoy and don't listen to Jason's bullshit about if you chip the clam you have to bin it, they are repairable. Oh and Lotus do PPF for the front too.

I have had two Elise cars. The mark1 bought used, the mark 2 bought new along with the factory tour. The mark 2 was easier to get in and out of but I actually preferred with mark 1 probably because the mark 2 had an annoying habit of accelerating without me touching the pedal when slowing for a road junctions.
