I first heard this song in 1989 on Pirate Radio 100.3 based in Los Angeles. The station tended to play the obscure. Broadcasting ended in 1993. In those 4 short years I bought a lot of unheard of music that one only heard on Pirate.
Man I remember the first time I heard 'Voices Of Babylon'. I instantly set up my tape recorder and patiently waited to hear it on the radio again. Once I'd captured it I wore that tape deck out rewinding and playing it over and over. I wanted more! Then I heard, 'Your Love', and 'Closer To Me', so bought the 'Play Deep' album on vinyl. I've been a fan ever since.
They were the best,,,best song writing ever... didn’t realize how good we had it with these fellas.. well I did, but most didn’t. They’ve always been my top 3 fav bands
I have recently re-discovered this song and find it very captivating. It's amazing how the lyrics are even more relevant today than when the song was released many, many years ago. This is a classic with a powerful message!
Lead guitar / songwriter John Spink wrote this excellent and beautiful song that renders emotion and nostalgy at the same time.Tony Lewis'voice is the perfect complement. "The Outfield" Undoubtedly, they really made a difference in the 80's Rock music.May God holds both of them in paradise. Hi, from Panama.!
The cd longbox hype sticker advertised the song as a smash hit. I love this song and video. I couldn't stop playing it on the jukebox in a local pizza shop. Long live the Outfield. Tony's solo project is great too!
Voices of Babylon was always a song for me to fly low in my 89 Iroc convertible. 120 MPH with motor screaming and wind blowing through my hair. Living on the edge. I haven`t thought about these guys in years. I remember the faster I went the slower it seemed I was going. I will remember them as a part of my youth as I fade away into my own sunset. You will be missed. This was music.
I introduced my father to this song twenty years ago. He loved it the first time he heard it. I burned it onto a CD with a bunch of others, and he played it in his car very frequently. I lost him about six years ago, and get very depressed. Listening to this song helps me to cope.
i was in college when this album hit... its a brilliant effort . it hurts me that these guys are both dead... they were great in concert i saw them open for Starship

Used be in a cover band. We loved The outfield. We did a few of their songs. Most of the harmonies were tough but we mastered them before we put them out to the public...we were proud of our accomplishment,....😁
Another sad loss... recently, when I rediscovered this track, I cried "Get me this album!" within 30 seconds of hearing it! Lots of great Rock in their catalogue! Now a lifelong fan...
In my opinion, this is their best track out of The Outfield's entire music catalog! The guitars and keyboards are so brilliantly incorporated together. R.I.P., John Spinks... You will be missed.
I LOVED this song when it came out as the 80s were coming to an end.... it started to chart then just disappeared from airplay. I didn't think about it for YEARS except to think that "Your Love" was overplayed and wishing that the radio stations would play some of the other Outfield songs. I'd honestly forgotten the song's name (never had bought an album) and finally decided to search their discography to find what I'd mentally misplaced. So gratified to hear it again. And it sounds as good as ever. No, there will never be a decade like the 80s again. Some folks went on to like 90s and grunge and such. Me, not so much. I became an adult in the 80s and the music of the time brings back the memories like it hasn't been over a third of a century 😮
I just found out right now........God .........we're losing far too many stars just in the last 5 yrs. or so: Lord, Peart, Emerson, Lake, Wetton and now Tony and John. Unf.....ingbelievable.
His voice here sounds a bit different compared to the previous songs Say It Ain't So, Your Love, Since You've Been Gone and Everytime You Cry. Not sure if it's the music or his voice starting to deepen
I can't believe I forgot this gem... I discovered and loved so many of The Outfield's songs back in the very early 00's when I was in my late teens/early 20's and in the military... I downloaded several of their songs because I always liked "Your Love" which received a lot of radio airplay back in the day, but it's been the better part of 2 decades since I've heard this song... still love it.
The Outfield...one of my all-time favorite bands. Have all their music. Almost, every track sounds like it could be a single for radio. Great musicians, songwriters. Tony Lewis-unmistakable voice! And now he's gone...what a loss!

What an incredibly multilayered video. And they produced this in the days before digital workstations. I bet even with modern technology they couldnt recreate it and have the result be as smooth and seamless as this
Hab das Lied in den 80ern ein Mal gehört und dann nie wieder. Wusste den Titel aber nicht den Interpreten. Hab mindestens 20 Jahre gebraucht, bis ich über TH-cam fündig geworden bin. Toller Song.
You will be missed Tony! Singing with John now in heaven :) God rest your soul and thank you for all the awesome music you created with this amazing band.

Hit the message, I can hear you calling
No one's going anywhere tonight
We conceived a modern generation
It was free but now we pay the price
We're the victims of our own creation
Chasing rainbows that are painted black or white
Watch the struggle of our temptation
Instincts barely keeping us alive
Back to the rhythm that we all came from
Voices of Babylon, streets of London
Back to the people that we know so well
Space and time removed too soon to tell
Just a product of imagination
Patiently we wait for our turn to come
A small collection of the population
By the time our number's up, we could be gone
Back to the rhythm that we all came from
Voices of Babylon, streets of London
Back to the people that we know so well
Space and time removed too soon to tell
Back to the rhythm that we all came from
Voices of Babylon, streets of London
Back to the people that we know so well
Space and time removed too soon to tell
Back to the rhythm that we all came from
Voices of Babylon, streets of London-town

Funny what things you remember....
Paperwork never ends.....but I don't regret thoes days we'd spent together; the good and the bad; the learning curve and things you instinctively know without saying a word. You'll get through it but no lie, it's hard, gather friends around you and speak of him in kindness and let friends share their moments. Wishing you healing a and hard up, warmest regards for safe journey.
@@marneeklintworth9300 Hugs to you also Marnee, I do know just how you are feeling, I have lost all of my loved ones, the heartache never goes away.❤

Nostalgia at its best!!!! What a song. My all time favorite. 💪💪💪💪.
RIP Tony Lewis...another 80's icon gone too soon. Thanks for the music.
My heart still aches that he is gone 💔
This song goes straight through my skin and into my soul. 80s never die ❤
Me pasa lo mismo....
Same! Something special we’ll never see again ❤️
RIP John Spinks. God bless your soul.
And now Tony Lewis
May God receive and guard his soul. May God bless him. Love.
Which one was John Spinks, the singer??
@@leosaab240 the guitarist
And Tony Lewis
RIP Tony Lewis. May you and John be jamming in paradise.
You will be missed Tony! Singing with John now in heaven :) God rest your soul and thank you for all the awesome music you created with this amazing band.
Magnífico! Os ingleses e irlandeses têm um estilo clássico de compor e cantar.

My 24 yr old son loves ‘80’s music. This song started it all.
