I am 84 years old, and have been playing golf for about 28 years. About 5 years ago, I suddenly began having trouble with my fairway woods. Even when I wasn't topping the ball, I was getting very little loft. About 4 months ago I began watching every TH-cam instructional video available. Most assured me that I needed to hit down on the ball, with the low point of my swing being about 3 inches in front of the ball. There was a bit of an improvement. I was getting some loft, and hit the occasional nice shot, but there was no consistency, and I still often topped it. It was very "hit and miss". Your video (especially the comment that the low point of the swing should only be a millimeter in front of the ball, if anything) was such a huge help that I was a little stunned. Of course, I am now a loyal subscriber. Thank you so much.
Thank you 🙏 for this video, trail knee to lead knee, helped me to fixing my slice not only on this shot but all my other shots as well, trail knee to lead will always be a part of my game now.
wtf are these comments lmaooo. This is brilliant, most videos don’t talk about differences with swing paths etc. I’m too inside on my swing path. So every time I look on TH-cam everyone tells me to move the ball up my stance. This is perfect since you told me the complete opposite. I’m also a sweeper of the ball. Can’t wait to try
Great explanation of the difference between teeing up a 3 wood versus off the deck. It's an important lesson for both the experienced golfer and the beginner. Like a lot of golfers, I had a love - hate relationship with my driver (I couldn't hit it if my life depended on it) so I switched to hitting my 3 wood off the tee. I didn't realize it at the time, but I was following Andy's lesson for hitting a teed up 3 wood. My golfing buddies didn't appreciate the fact that I was hitting it almost as far as they were hitting their drivers. Thanks for sharing!
Man did i need this one. Great video. Have always had a hard time hitting the 3wood of the deck. I need that little extra distance on the par fives. Thanks so much for this one
What I really like about your tips is they're not one size fits all. In this case, you consider swing path and demonstrate how that determines how to play the shot. Nice! I hope you get to 100K subs and beyond very soon! Cheers!
Excellent job Andy in explaining hitting the 3 wood off the ground and the tee! I also have a "love/hate" relationship with my 3 wood. I feel that a 3 wood requires a cushiony fairway as opposed to a thin fairway. Like you, I am a sweeper when it comes to fairway woods, and as such, one needs a perfect lie to hit it. On a tee shot with the 3 wood,, I use the same technique as you are recommending. I'm a senior golfer, so I think I am better off without the 3 wood and rely on the 5 wood and hybrids. Keep up the good work Andy! Always finding informative things in your videos!
Thank you for this useful video. I’ve been topping my 3 wood and wasting shots from the fairway. Will do this setup now. - Subscribed. - Woody in Massachusetts
Great video Andy, I’ll be sure to try this out. I’m 50/50 with my fairway woods atm. I either spank it perfectly or do the dreaded ‘top shot’ which often lends me to just hit a 3 iron which is a reliable club for me anyway. I’m thinking I might just have my ball placement to far forward off the deck, I’ll try bringing it back a bit at the range next time. I hope your TH-cam channel hits some new heights mate, good luck!
Hi Andy, was wondering if you could answer me a question? I’m a 66 year young woman woman with arthritis in both shoulders. However my left shoulder is the problem as I dislocated it years ago, but if stressed in the wrong way, it will dislocate again. I’ve not got a fast swing speed,ie 65-70mph with a 7iron, but I cannot finish the swing across the back of my shoulders as the position of the left elbow to do that would stress the shoulder so much it would cause me a real problem. I therefore finish my swing with the butt of the club facing the target with the club over the top of my left shoulder. It continually crashes into the top of my shoulder causing a lot of pain. Is there anything else I could do? Sorry for the rambling. Melissa
every golf instructor on this planet is teaching a body posture not you impact the ball ... hit that ball square on the golf center face and you have a game ... now it's up to you how to accomplish your needs.

Honestly mate, probably the best wood lesson/video I’ve watched on the tube! Makes total sense
Thanks bud, much appreciated and I’m glad you enjoyed it 🙌🏽

Good video Andy. Thank You for showing the difference between hitting it off the fairway and the tee. Cheers mate.
Happy to help

My pleasure, hope it helps
Thank you for this, been having some difference in opinion with my 3-wood lately, hopefully this clears it 😅🏌🏼♂️⛳️
Happy to help!
@@andycartergolf oh, and thanks to that ben hogan hands with the iron video, i broke 90 for the first time 😘
Legend. Love that. Keep it going 👊🏽
Great video, I will surely remember this lesson and incorporate it into my next range session. TY.
Great vlog Andy - I can play my 3-wood fairly consistently but prefer my 5-wood off the fairway. Your previous vlogs have helped!
Cheers

Thank you. Glad the tip helps and resonates

Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for this one Andy, I've been swinging my 3 wood like an epileptic orangutan of late, so I'll take these reminders to the range!

I agree, I hate my 3 wood shot, thank you for my next range day 👍
Great instructions and no adverts woo hoo

Baller
😂😂😂😂😂😂iv got 4 of those scuffs on top on my 3 wood and I didn't know thats why 😂😢 I thought I was putting it in the truck wrong
I'm beginning to surrender my 3 wood for a 5 wood. The difference in distance is marginal but get better height. Thank you for confirming my idea 2:31
Yes i agree that most golfers should consider this change goo
every golf instructor on this
planet is teaching a body posture
not you impact the ball ... hit that ball
square on the golf center face and
you have a game ... now it's up to
you how to accomplish your needs.
why do they talk so much and don't show squat
I’ve no idea!
10 minute video for 30 seconds of important tips. Sucks.
golden 30 seconds
For me , you talk to much what NOT to do. I am NOT learning from that. You would be the first teacher to change that. Otherwise MOS
Critique taken in board thank you
too long. get to the point sooner. we want tips, not speeches.
Will do 😘
Sweeping is for the Tee, not on the ground.
Swing down when on the ground.
