I just shortened my driver to 43 3\4 changed the head weights, to make my driver head to weight 218 grams to make it D-0 swing weight, it's is a absolute bomber , it's like a over size 3 wood, its more forgiven than a 3 wood, I can find the short grass more often. It has changed my golf game , more confident and better scores.
Love it! Another cracking video Coach! Not everyone gets as deep or exploratory with this club. The situational examples are clearly helpful for us. Thanks bruh!
My swing speed has slowed down due to age so I replaced my 3 w with a 4 w and immediately got better results. I hit it off the tee and occasionally off the grass. My next fairway club is the venerable 7 w which is such an easy club to get the ball airborne and down the fairway.
Evening Coach, I have been relying on my 3 wood for a while now, carry about 225 but hitting 19 out of 20 fairways so is a no brainer compared to my 50/50 fairway 235-245 driver. My problem is the two swings are so different that whenever I work on distance and accuracy on my driver I lose the control with my 3 wood so I put the driver away and then after a range session the 3 wood is back to be my safe club. ‘Golf’ lol 😂
How many lost balls with driver? 20 yards longer in the rough might not work out much difference in GIR % so on your good days with driver you start winning. But I don’t know all your stats 🤔 worth thinking about though 👍
@@CoachLockey thanks Matt, truthfully too many lost balls lol I know I need to get longer with driver to continue reducing my handicap but down 8 to 16.1 this year just through finishing with the same ball more rounds (I’m a reasonably new high handicap hacker) I’ve been sticking to 3 wood on more penalising courses and committing to driver when I think I’ll get away with it more
Thanks Coach, Brilliant video great timing as im 64yrs 16hcap an been hitting my 3 wood off tee driver in my garage. 99% on fairway an maybe 10m less than driver but sometimes 20m more as i smash it IN THE CENTRE ...cheers from Sydney Australia 🇦🇺
I recently swapped my 3 wood, from an original TM V-steel to an AI Smoke, and now consistently top it off the tee. Didn't have that problem with the old one... During my testing with the AI Smoke I didn't top a single shot....Heavier shaft now, could that be playing a part?
Even though I sold my 3-wood and replaced it with a new 5-wood, I watched this video anyway. And lo and behold, you gave me advice on how to tee off with my 5-wood. I already know a hole that I can use this on. Except there is a bunch of snow on it right now! Is spring coming?
I use both a 3 wood (set to 17 deg) and 7 wood. The 3 wood is almost entirely off the tee, and the 7 both off the ground and from the tee. I think I have a tendency to having the ball too far forward in an attempt to mitigate my natural draw (and often top the ball), so the info about ball position was useful.
At my home course I normally do use a 3-wood off the first tee. This hole is a fairly sharp dog leg right. The driver can go through the end of the fairway and cause issues, but I do think I'm more likely to hit the fairway with 3-wood than driver too. I have lots of stats from the past 10 years using the Golf Shot app that indicates I really do hit more fairways.
When I hit driver good its 280+, but often loos balls when it goes south on me lol. I've gone from a 9 degree Sim Max2 driver to a 13.5 degree Exotics 3W. No more lost balls and more Fairway hits at bout 250 yds avg. I now break 90 easily. I'll bring my Driver back into play once I'm hitting the fairway 7 out of 10 times. Thanks for the video :-)
Love my 3W (TM M1)! Nice tips for it, cheers. But as much as I try, I really want to use more driver, but I know with my 3W, it's money. With driver, it's a totally different story.
My first 2 holes at my home course punish you on screw ups. 380ish yard dog leg lefts. Driver gets you in trouble 8 out of 10 times. 225 tee shot is better than in the toolies for three.
For me, it's not a matter of accuracy, but slice. For whatever reason, I slice driver but don't my fairways, maybe because driver is the only club I have a different swing for. So, I usually leave driver in the bag, but if I can fix my driver swing to get rid of slice, I'd take the distance with a bit less accuracy, if the myths were true. I am pretty steep with irons and my attack levels out with hybrid and fairways, though I'm still slightly down into the ball.
I have found that my driver is most comfortable and accurate by teeing the ball only one inch high, and use a high lofted driver. Don't try this unless you want to drive down the middle.

Great video Coach, off to the range.
Janner , i hit my 3wood further a nd straighter than my driver !!! Hence bin the driver !! Love the fairway ! Cracking vid mate ! Green army 😂❤

Thanks for watching and glad there was something in there for you. Do one snow!!

Outstanding presentation of the 3-wood Coach, thanks!
Very welcome!
A well struck driver for me goes 280, just got a used Original One mini-driver for par 4’s 375 yards and under. Been hitting it great, so forgiving!

A great demonstration coach 👍👍👍🏌️♂️
Glad you think so!
What's the minimum club head speed to be effective off the tee with a 3 wood?
As a Callaway golfer Matt, show the peoples the 17 degree UW club as a 3-wood alternative
Love my 3W (TM M1)! Nice tips for it, cheers. But as much as I try, I really want to use more driver, but I know with my 3W, it's money. With driver, it's a totally different story.
Same for lots of golfers

I play my fairway off the tee when I'll run out of room with a driver. I generally play it off the deck, sometimes off a tee if I want more height
Will teeing the ball off the ground produce a lower shot? Good into the wind.
Hello thanks for the free lesson, will subscribe and like.Would u get about the same results with a 3 hybrid?
Very similar

And not optimise distance 😂 nice it keeps you in play though 👍
I use 3 wood off the tee for position or if the big dog isn't being kind that day!
Holes where I hit driver too long is when I use 3 wood doglegs or staying short of trouble
I hit my 3 wood as far as I hit my driver, but a lot straighter. No slice with my 3 wood.
The only time I dont use driver is if theres a forced carry that the driver cant. 3 wood is a layup
Coach! Hair looking a little sketchy?.? Could be just hat hair?
Sketchy? I think I had only just had it cut! Long bits on the top popping down, that’s all.
We all need more weapons!
Wish I could see your swing in slow motion. You don't look like you have much of a takeaway.
Far too much instruction
