  • As a job seeker, it is important for you to master the use of resume keywords. Doing so can mean the difference between having a strong resume that gets noticed and one that ends up being ignored. Learn how to weave important skill statements naturally throughout your resume and strategically position them for maximum impact.
In this episode of the informative video series, Job Search Strategies, veteran career coach and TrainingPros Talent Ambassador Nicole Darby discusses the do's and don'ts of incorporating hard and soft skill keywords on your resume, providing job seekers a clear roadmap to crafting a compelling, job-winning summary of their expertise and experience.

    TRANSCRIPT
The next time you have the urge to start each bullet on your resume with the same industry keyword, or worse, you're about to add some random keyword section to the resume and include every industry-related word since the beginning of time, please don't.
Resist that urge, and instead, why not try a more strategic approach? It's important to show potential employers that you understand best practices for knowing both what to do, your hard skills, and how to get it done, those soft skills.
So, how do you determine which ones to incorporate? Well, start by evaluating current job postings and industry requirements. Next, you'll want to compile a list of the most important or frequently used hard and soft skills.
Weave those hard and soft skills statements throughout the entire resume, remembering to include relevant tools and technologies used. Last but not least, incorporate those keywords not into some randomly added section on the resume but into an "Areas of Expertise" or "Core Competency" section that you strategically placed at the top portion of the resume.
