Awkward question, what does someone do when they never went to school but have mediocre skill levels and are looking for a job. For people applying to jobs in Europe, it is important and good practice here to include a photo on your CV, there’s even countries that disregard your CV if it doesn’t include a photo (such as Germany and Spain)!!!!
In Germany I think it's slowly changing, so it's more acceptable to leave out a picture. But standard procedure is still to have a professional picture:|

I'm so glad that my current resume follows almost all your points! It's a killer resume and has received many compliments by job advisors and recruiters. It's bright and eye catching but very clear to read (I'm an illustrator so I believe it should have some creative flare) One thing I dropped from the working experience section is the exact dates/months of each experience. As a creative alot of jobs were contract based or just wouldn't work out very well, so I had to quit. Resulting in having months-long gaps in my resume where I was unemployed. It attracted attention in many interviews, were I had to explain myself and say that I worked as freelancer in between, so the recruiter wouldn't think that I drop jobs all the time, when in reality I wasn't. So now I only have the year and all the experience, projects etc I've done within the year as independent sections. Seems to work quite well as no one has questioned me since and it looks very nicely organised and full.

I get really frustrated because most of my experience for the jobs I am looking for comes from 4 plus years ago. I have had "filler" jobs since then to pay the bills. But if I leave out my recent jobs it looks like I haven't worked in years! So I have no idea how to include all of this without having a 2 page resume. Ugh.
Great advice! I'm currently doing my work term at the end of my education to graduate and I'll be job hunting for my permanent position in June. I'll have to come back to this later and prepare my stuff! I definitely committed the sin of sending out the same resume to everyone when searching for the work term 😅 So far I've interviewed with 3 places and they all wanted me, but none were the generic resume put out on Indeed, so point definitely taken. My interviews all came from finding out about an opportunity some other way and contacting them directly.

Great video! I purchased that complete guide! One question is around the 1 page. I’ve had over 12 years of experience and 6 roles, near impossible to fit on one page. Is a second page okay in this situation?
If you've only been working for a couple of years to maybe 20 years with only a couple of job changes, then sure, one page. I've been working for 30 years in a profession where it is 100% normal to be a contract employee for a few months to a few years. Even cutting it down to just the past 20 years is two pages. If I only show the past 10 years, I still have to leave things off and I get people asking why I only started working 10 years ago.
Hwy Erin , I love your videos and it really helps me a lot . And I've been dealing with a toxic workplace and toxic coworkers . I am about to compose my resume and this is very helpful. I would love it also if you could talk about writing a resume for smn without relevant experience or a resume for academic/research jobs, like for a phd or postdoc.
One thing that conflicts. You said make your resume ATS friendly, but in your thumbnail the resume has multiple columns. I've been told that's a NO NO from multiple recruiters.

When transitioning from academia to industry for data analyst roles, which is more important for a one-page resume: including a summary highlighting my analytical skills or focusing on projects and work experience directly related to data analysis?
I tried the functional resume some years ago, but with 30 years of experience and a lot of different skills (my industry is tech), it became very unwieldy, difficult to specialise for particular role-types and it requires a recruiter that is themselves ahead of the game, with a brain between their ears, and that is a small minority - let alone the hiring team in the end-client - it's a good mental exercise to do and worth it, and for some it will work in getting a job. Also, if you listen to lots of other CV advice out there, where they say don't list what you did, but what you achieved, the functional model doesn't work very well...
This was very helpful on to ur other video … I’m changing careers been at my current for 20 years and my resume is super long so hopefully this will help me out thanks Erin

Do you update financial reports for each of the staff or customers? How many?
Do you manage the schedules of Staff members? How many?
Do you plan and manage any events? How many per month?

What are the duties and what is the volume (calls/emails per day, number of people you support, etc.)?

If you've only been working for a couple of years to maybe 20 years with only a couple of job changes, then sure, one page. I've been working for 30 years in a profession where it is 100% normal to be a contract employee for a few months to a few years. Even cutting it down to just the past 20 years is two pages. If I only show the past 10 years, I still have to leave things off and I get people asking why I only started working 10 years ago.
Hwy Erin , I love your videos and it really helps me a lot . And I've been dealing with a toxic workplace and toxic coworkers . I would really appreciate if you would make some videos on how to deal with toxic co workers and build more boundaries with your boss who tries to overstep and texts you at night . Thankyou
I love these idea’s definitely the brain dump, but the issue I’m having is pivoting to health another industry as a digital marketer who worked in the entertainment, business and fashion industries.
PS: the soda player examples where you want a coke vs the player with the sprite is a prefect examples of how my resume looks like 😂😂 thank you
Excellent video!! Just wondering about adding a hobbies section... I heard once it's a good practice to show them that they are dealing with real people and not robots.
Small thing: light years are a measure of distance, not time. It's how far light can travel in a year.
You told me everything I didn't wanna hear, but I needed to hear. Thanks sweetheart.
Where are the resume templates in the description?
behind paywalls. the direct link to the free template just goes to the google docs homepage.
Erin thanks for this video. I am going to try everything you mentioned right now! I will let you know how it goes. Wish me luck!
I wish I had heard about this sooner; it's fantastic!

I am proud of you for making this video!!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
This is a game changer, thank you for sharing!
You can share tips on how to find keywords from a job description? Like how do we know which keywords are the best ones to hone in on?
