I actually miss work market when it was ruled by employers ... at least you had chance to see thier true face ... now they are hiding everything and try to appear better than they are. Back then ... they said there are 100 more people outside waiting to take this job.
It is really not good and in fact nowadays people jump from job to job more than before not because they can't keep it but mostly because of lies from companies. Once people learn work is not what they were promised to move on ... onto next company that lies even more hahah.

It’s crazy how people can control your opportunity for a job regardless of credentials. I dated a chick that worked in HR and would go over resumes from home when I would be at her house and she would pass up more than qualified people for ridiculous and dumb personal reasons. People put years and finances into their careers just to be judged by someone who shouldn’t be in that position to do so.

I feel that. I used to work as an HR officer for a media agency and I am absolutely proud to have hired one of the best hard working and talented people. They seemingly didn't "fit the bill" for what was to look for but they knocked it out of the park when it came to delivery. There was always a chance and a risk when taking on people that didn't necessarily have the qualifications but had the "ability" to fulfill the job. Sadly, had to leave because I was moving to a different country.

Most HR is people who have a degree, and pleasant people and absolutely useless for anything else.
Someone there (HR) does most of the paperwork but they NEVER are involved in the hiring process.
The HR hiring people often have not a f*cking clue what the job is they're hiring for, and they look for "keywords".
Often they let software search for those keywords. No keyword, or the wrong one, your resume hits the electronic trashcan.
As for interviewing? How can you evaluate someone for a job, when you have no inkling what that job is or does?

A friend of mine told me that he lied on all of his resumes back in the day. When they asked if he was familiar with computers, coding, etc he said "Yes" when it came time to do the job he would say stuff like "Oh you know the OS I used is different, or the equipment I used was different at my last job. Could you show me how to work it?" It always worked and he learned how to manage data and do other things very well. One of the biggest factors is confidence. If you ask to be shown, and get scared when all the information is given, or think "I can't do this" you will probably fail. Also a lot of good jobs require common sense rather than education. (Just throwing that out there)

I wish your friend would make a video talking about his experience. That sounds awesome if you can actually pretend you know how to code and then get a job and learn from them!
It kinda reminds me of how some jobs will give you a 2 week bootcamp to understand their programs/how they run things. I would think that a 2 week bootcamp would be just enough to understand something like coding/management to be fair! It's not like you need to know math or actual scripts, just search it up for the most part lol!

Now I know it's more about who you chose to lie to and who you are completely honest to. If I told a thief I have $100 in my wallet, he will mug me. But if I lie to him and I'm confident enough to do it, I can walk away from the situation with my cash. True story. Already has happened to me 3 times. Something I've started noticing in the workforce and I'm just 3 years in. Honesty is viewed as weakness when you admit fault and they pounce on you. Yet when you're honest and politely state that someone else may have messed up, you're somehow dodging accountability and being immature or offensive. But people will be quick to blame you when it saves their own ass. Exactly why I don't consider friendships with people I work closely with. @Kry Kry - Some clarification. You can’t outright lie, that makes no sense. If you can’t back it up, don’t put it on your resume. The goal is to get past recruiters and filters. Once you have the interview, they will give an offer if you know what you’re talking about, and mesh with the team. You can make up the title on the resume, but always use your official title when filling out forms for the official background check.

    • @unknowninfinium4353
      @unknowninfinium4353 4 ปีที่แล้ว +18

@Kry Kry Firstly which agency are you talking about?
Recruitment agencies never fact check your experience they would simply accept what you give and forward it to companies, which I am hoping they do cause usually they are only in it for the money.
Secondly, let me ask you also this - which companies search and fact check or verify? If they look at your resume and see the experience they need they would hire you immediately. That is just leaving the countless biases that also goes with recruiting.

Every job requires learning the technical aspects, the specific methodology used by organization and navigating the social structure. Been a programmer for 20+ years. I don't disagree with anything you say here. You do anything you have to to get to the interview, resumes are just to get past the HR flunkies and to the tech people. If you really don't know your stuff the tech people will figure it out pretty quick in your interview.
I will tell you when I've been the most honest in interviews is when firms have wanted me the most. At one of my last ones, one of the first questions was "Why do you want to work here?" My answer, "I don't know that I do, that's why I'm at this interview to decide if I want to work here." I think the interviewer was so taken aback that I wasn't kissing his ass and doing corporate speak, that we actually had a really good discussion with him selling me on the company for the rest of the interview.

I want to point out two things:
      1. This is why the economy is crippled.
      2. CEO's are so greedy for the immediate money and blind to the lower-level operations, that they fail to take the necessary steps to make truely sustainable money.
      1. People love blaming the working class...we're lazy, we don't know what we're doing - we're gaming the 'system' when in fact, the people that are passionate, loyal, more than capable, talented, and can excel the company into profits 10x fold typically end up getting passed up by someone who matched the words on the job description to their resume. You wanna talk about the economy. I'll put it in basic terms. More people taken advantage of + less passionate enthusiastic workers getting hired = less pay for employees, and less money for employers.
      2. So much more often than not, we see people hiring for jobs that they don't understand the full day-to-day operations and average-talent requirement for, it's crazy. Seriously think about how much money in wasted talent companies spend every year because they not only failed to assess the job duties appropriately, but they also hired someone for work that's way above their ability anyway.

This is legit fabulous. I'm a recruitment manager at a recruitment firm, I see the bullshit that hiring managers do behind people's backs. The harsh truth is that you're a piece of paper (your resume, obviously) to hiring managers. The key is to fill your resume with "half-truths," over-exaggerate your skills a bit but be able to competently explain them during the interviews.
Job-hopping is generally a smart financial decision (realistically, hiring teams expect you to stay with employers for at least a year, unfortunately), always be searching for a higher-paying job while employed (obviously, don't quit a job until you have another one lined up).
Be a politician in the 9-5 world, deliver mouth service when necessary, and do just enough to get by.

A "spotty" work history isn't that big of a deal as long as it's from fully completed contract roles, but unfortunately hiring managers do prefer to see long tenures in permanent roles.

Those are not values created to make people happy, they're created by the masters to make their subjects good little servants that work hard for others benefit. Even in a perfect world, this doesn't exist, if we aren't nurturing upcoming potential talent, there isn't going to be anyone else to fill in for their impossible job requirements. This is will perpetually create a ripple effect where the industry is so tight on talent where corporations will either outsource or just stop dealing with this technical field altogether.
It's kinda like the Android app dev craze a few years back, whereas as of today, the Android app dev is a dying industry, often times devs aren't compensated very well and the only people who put up with it, do it because it's either a recreation or working in some code factory in India.

Also, as i am an idiot lol, i never found their office first time and got there late around 20-45 minutes on every job interview. I simply, as mentioned in my comment, go there, open my notebook and show what i did, only talk about what i really know - programming - and also start to test my interviewers knowledge. They notice that.
Edit: If the job says "Oh you need c++, c#, c, switft, js, html. css, java, brainfuck, office365, adobe and even SPL knowlege" always remember: They also cook with water. No one is an 100% expert in all of these. I know a lot but the most confident i am with the tools i use right now and i use daily. Also you have to realize that your lever is the longer one, they want your work and quality, so tell them a price in a manner of "take it or leave it". Ask me how I know. Because I was that person inside.

The reason why lying is so required in the job market of today is because the market is so oversaturated. Recruiters have 1000 resumes on their desk, but they can only hire one. They are forced to reject 999, and anything that can be construed as a negative will result in your resume being trashed. About ten years ago when I first started in this industry, interviews were completely different than how they are today, because the market wasn't so competitive.
Also, in regards to the job gap situation, in my experience, the taboo of having gaps is going away. I've always been honest about my gaps (and I have many of them), I have never felt like it worked against me. What I really hate is when they ask you questions like "Tell me why you're excited about joining our team". I want to give an honest answer like "Because I'm unemployed and would like to not starve to death", but if you give an answer like that they WILL trash your resume. You instead have to give them the corporate cringe about how you really like the culture, etc blah blah if you want to stand a chance of being hired.

My gap -- decades ago -- was military service. Returned from Vietnam after serving 3.5 years and worked my way through college. Then, applying for full-time jobs, recruiters were puzzled as to "why it took you so long" to apply for entry-level positions. They could not add 4 + 4. For them, I was "too old" for the position or I was the equivalent of a convicted felon for having served in (a) the military and (b) Vietnam. But recruiters could never do the math without my going over a blow-by-blow explanation of "why it took me so long" to complete college. Finally, a Korean-American gave me my first career job! 2. An "Education and Non-Employment" section near the bottom of my resume, putting down anything from community college classes to a home tech project.
    3. A "Summary of Accomplishments" near the top, sorting all the details to paint a much nicer picture.
My dad gave me the advice that "they want to think they're hiring someone with a plan. So come up with something." Also, it saves time on applications, my conscience stays clean, and I got more bites while I was still job hunting 😁
