So two weeks ago, I was about to have my 18th birthday at home, but unfortunately, my horrible younger brother decided that he wanted a weekend away without me and the party ended up getting canceled. My brother (15m) is my dad’s favorite, if that was not clear enough. And whatever he says in this household, that’s what goes. At least there was some balance as long as my mother was alive, but she passed away from lung cancer a couple of years back. Since then, life has been terrible for me because my dad only seems to care about my brother, and he thinks that since I’m older, I can deal with everything on my own.

Not to the updates yet, but I'm sure daddy "came to his senses" because grandpa cut off the money daddy was using to live and spoil the golden one. Or at the very least, grandpa told him that you were going to inherit everything after grandpa's passing, and daddy and bro are getting nothing. So, he now wants to be your daddy again to keep his grubby hands on grandpa's money. Don't respond to his message. Yep, saw that one coming a mile away. Father of the Year candidate here, neglecting his own son to punish him because his mother had an affair, even though he wasn't an affair child. Go no contact with both daddy dearest and the golden one, enjoy the time you have left with the one family member that actually cares about you, and get your revenge by living a great life.

There is a problem with your logic.
OP is the eldest son. If daddy-dearest left his wife after the affair, then the golden child would never have been born. 🤷‍♀️OP would have been hus only child unless the dad remarried.
He is an A-hole either way. OP is his son despite the circumstances behind his birth. OP was innocent in all of this. If dad could never get over the affair, it would have been best for OP that the parents divorced.
Take it from me. I lived a very similar life to OP except I (and my father) believe that my younger sister is a love child. Dad never got a paternity test. He didn't want to know so he wouldn't treat either of us differently growing up.
My parents ended up divorcing. Dad did not want the divorce.
As an adult, I can look back and see this in a different light.
I believe that my mother asked for a divorce to marry her AP but he rejected her after the divorce was final.
I believe my mother was so angry after that. She took her anger out on me because I reminded her of my father. I grew up feeling that she resented me. I was always the object of her anger & frustration. My sister was the golden child - never got in trouble for anything and was definitely her favorite. Everyone in the family could see it but she denied it.
Ironically, I was the daughter that was by her side when she passed not her favorite.
Now I am caring for my elderly father. He lives with me and my husband. My sister rarely ever visits.
My sister & I rarely speak as well. I resent her for basically abandoning Dad.
      Ain't life grand 🙄

    * Blatantly favoring the younger brother
    * Treating OP badly for dad's unresolved anger toward his wife
    * Only attempting to reconcile to get back in the will
Yes, all bad enough things to raise one's ire against dad. But the ultimate kicker to me: doesn't sound like dad even tried to get to know older son in any way once his wife died. He basically just did bare minimum of legally required duties but otherwise abandoned his son. "But family" ceases to apply when you have willingly not treated your child like family.

When mom was alive it was balanced one kid to each parent . But when she died. You just went on being my brother’s dad and close friend. And I only have a ghost for a parent. You never seem to know or care about anything I do. Unless it’s to admonish me for what might happen. I have never had your love. So am I your child or not? With your brother sitting there see what he says. The OP needs counseling to get over how he feels about his brother and father. I would have continued writing my little brother. After all it was not his fault your dad lavished him with attention to the point of severally spoiling him. The letters could have been filled with what is like to grow up. The trials of school . Girls ect. And see if the brother wrote or called back. That the dad reached out to congratulate you on your college graduation . Might have been good. I would have talked to the granddad to find out if he was talking to your dad. But your dad should have made the attempt. But as he abandoned your mom during the first part of their marriage so has he done with you during this time . Poor old dad needed therapy all those years ago. And 18 years down the line it blew up another relationship. How sad.

I wouldn't be surprised that when the day came this poor pathetic excuse of a father with an unforgivable excuse as to why he treated this man like shit will definitely be calling again hoping he could aid his little brother. O.P when that day comes keep going no contact, don't even entertain this man who hurt. he isn't a real father figure. he proved that by robbing you of what a real father and son relationship is. And that brother of yours daddy can help his ass and if daddy doesn't have the money, neither should be asking you because both have shown their true feelings towards you. and I think both of them should let you live your life, and they can live there's and figure out things for theirselves. Its 100 percent the money, maybe some mild regret, but not enough to be 100 percent genuine.

1:06, if brother behaved anything like he does at home while on the Football Field, I would Reject him as well. They want Grown Men playing on the Filed, not Children who need their Pacifier.
13:42, Honestly seems like the House is in Grand Dads Name, and That is why he is Afraid of him. Because Grand Dad can move him out when he feels like it. You were the Prisioner in Grand Dads home because Dad had to be nice to you in front of him.
16:02, I CALL B*LLSH*T, "I didnt realize how bad you had felt, even when you were SCREAMING your head off at me for my abuse of you", He knew, he just didnt care until Grand Dad punished him... What kind of Leverage does Grand dad have?
17:00, "HE really wanted me to come back home, so we could talk it out and work it out", reason this is a red Flag is because he could easily do that over the phone. the ONLY reason to need you Back Home first is because he Needed you somewhere he had LEVERAGE over you firs... at His Home he was in POWER and you were required to do as you were TOLD.
25:30, Red Flag answered. He wanted you back home so when his father Died, he could either through Lies or FORCE make you give your brother and him a portion of what he lost through Abuse.
29:29, Considering how he has not spoken to you in 4 Years It is nice that he is reach out, but I agree it seems like he has some other Motive for saying Hi to you. I would ask family how he and brother have been getting on though, because if Nothing changed in brothers behavior, then I would assume nothing changed in dads either and he has another reason for inquiring how your doing.

I Sorry DAD feeling was somewhat reasonable!! You mama didn't tell you and your dad was hurt bad from your mama, he shouldn't have left you not n your be but damn!! If he wanted your money he would have called more then once and hound you but he just apologized, explain and left it up to you, so the money is not what he wanted he just realized his mistakes and he was cut not your brother, so if brother is into dad then dad ain't worried about your money

Well you can cut your father of remember he going to have to rely on your brother in his old age, you owe him nothing he can accept he betrayed your late mother he is a total failure as a father
Remember revenge comes the day you refuse to allow him to walk down the aisle because he not a father he forgot he had a daughter not just a son ,I believe your father going to get karma I believe you should tell your grandfather the truth
Tell your father to come see you I would not trust him totally he could try have you a inheritance survival benefit tell him he had eighteen years to try he never made the effort he didn't care about your grief I actually thought you where his daughter but you are his son I really cannot believe your father failure to be your father so it does come down to money he doesn't want to lose money and he knows his golden child will get less as well
He is a greedy avaricious man I thought you had been female not your fathers whipping boy hardly likely to have anything in common with him if he loathed you since birth through no fault of your own you are his biological son I don't think he will ever have treated you as a equal in inheritance

    a) Grandpa is still the person he was, even with the restrictions. b) When you don't make the effort yourself to understand and embrace your father, what makes you think he will understand and embrace you? OP knows his dad loves the outdoors, and he sound like he gave his dad the cold shoulder. As for the cheating, well -- that's the ungift that keeps on giving. OP assumes the worst, and that's where the relationship will stay.

This guy was turning 18 and didnt have an after school job yet? He should have by 16. His dad couldnt stop him from leaving the house. Unsafe for a guy who is an adult? Ridiculous. 10 year olds go out to play with friends. He should have already had a job and moved out on his 18th birthday. Then like most teens get a student loan for college. You only need grade 10 for trade school to get the best paying jobs.

You obviously don't live in an urban area with even a moderate cost of living, not to mention the high cost of living areas. There is no legal part time job that will support you, even with roommates, at eighteen without any other help.

Horrible as it sounds, and I'm not saying it's right, but I find it very understandable why op dad is the way he is, with op. The mother did a real number on him. Having to wait through months of, what must have been torture, to find out if her baby was even his, giving him cause to try to forgive the unforgivable, all the while, telling him she would favour the AP if the baby wasn't his. Thinking she could still be married to OP dad, whilst raising AP child as a trio instead of cutting him off so he can heal and dare to leave his woofer alone for a moment with AP hanging around.
If OP can't understand how psychologically damaging that would be and the resentment his mother caused his dad to have for him, then he hasn't truly considered his dad's position. OP mother is 100% to blame for this negativity in OP family. Dad needs therapy, not threats and not blame.
The mother is cruel beyond beliefs and quite evil.

It's been 18 years... If you think it is justifiable to resent a child for the mistake of his wife, then why don't divorce the mother?? Why treat a child this unfairly?? He deserves the blame, because it is HIS blame... The child shouldn't be the "bigger person"... The father has to go to therapy, not resent the kid that doesn't get the blame. If him as the ADULT doesn't realize that he is treating his OWN child unfairly for something that he didn't do? Then the ADULT is the problem, not the child for not putting himself in his father's shoes. Actions have consequences and treating your child unfairly for something out of his control is stupid, the father needed a wake up call and I guess this is the one.
