Australia 7 Day: Sydney’s rain risks, TAS gales, brief showers for VIC

  • A burst of wet weather is moving across NSW and will brush parts of VIC, QLD and ACT but don’t expect a lot outside of NSW. Heaviest rain looks to be around Sydney and southwards where it’s possible (not yet locked in) that 100 to 200mm may fall for some. Elsewhere the numbers are lower in the 20 to 60mm range mostly.
    But a huge part of Aussie is quite dry in the coming week, despite a few showers bringing some brief relief to southern WA and some parts of VIC.
    Meanwhile easterlies at the moment around TAS and VIC will swing round to westerlies next week, with gales likely in exposed parts of TAS, especially the further south you are on the island.
    We have your 7 day forecast plus a 7 Day Australia only Rainfall Map.
    Our place of the day today is a remarkable old volcano smack bang in the middle of the Tasman Sea called Ball's Pyramid, near Lord Howe Island.

    That is incredible!! looks like a nice little space to hide in!! The things are poking up in the sea around us that most of us don't even know exist!! It is Mother's day weekend for us & I had a text on Tuesday to say to be ready to be picked up at 9 am Saturday morning. I think I am being invited to a high tea but I am sure I will find out Saturday, so I need a brolly by the look of it!! Plus a jacket I suspect!! I hate getting wet & like to be indoors on rainy days!! Now it looks like I will be out on both days!! So I hope it is only showers I can expect but as I don't know where I am being taken, I had better be ready for the worst!! 🤣🤣🤣 p.s. I am glad you enjoyed the flowers on the tree dahlia. Next doors has fallen over. oops!! I have 'wooden' stakes holding mine up but boy are they bending!! Someone pinched my steel star poles

      Interesting story about mooring at Lord Howe. May I ask you about the attitude of the island managers to bluewater sailors such as yourselves dropping their hook in the lagoon or harbour whatever they call it? I ask because I have heard that they run a very tight ship re visitors and numbers of same.
      I thank you for your valuable post, which prompted my response!

      @@Davidcallard We actually picked up one of the NSW government moorings. We had to book it in advance and pay a small fee. The manager (also the island police officer) was very helpful and used his car headlights to guide us through the narrow pass in the fringing reef. We were the only yacht there. Showers and laundry ashore just for visiting yachts.

    Lower Barrington is still in drought. We got 40mm 5-6 wks ago (first rain in months), and I got a flush of grass seedlings coming up in my half dead paddocks, but the last 6wks of dry have killed them all off. If and when we do get rain I'll have a paddock full of weeds.

    Phil im wondering if we may be starting to see the Antarctica area starting to produce more intense lows not sure what you call the index as im aware of its roll in shaping weather not the abbreviations as to what it is called.
    The reasons for asking is with the Pacific's ocean temps producing easterly driven rain fronts to the tropics im wondering weather in the Upper Murray River region we are looking at a dryish winter with frosts like the last month or are we pushing to a ongoing wet period requiring gum boots. Keep up the great work. Snowy Mountains. Upper Murray Jeff Moore

    G'day Phillip! I echo those comments by others of the personal style of your presentations! So much easier to relate to than the g'ment run services.
    I have a small question for you. I noticed a large band of rather angry looking convection to our north where the monsoon trough usually lies in the summer but surely that should be well banished to the other side of the Equator by now, although I have seen reflections of the other ITCZ suddenly appear on our side of the Equator. Could that band of storms be such now?

    • @WeatherWatchTV
      @WeatherWatchTV  22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes there is a line of convergence on the southern side of the equator north of Australia and pushing out east. Everything seems a little further south at the moment, including the big block of high pressure.

    • @WeatherWatchTV
      @WeatherWatchTV  22 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      They are just so large they can sometimes have ideal conditions to form...with no movement to track in any particular direction. No different than traffic on roads, sometimes a series of highs can get stuck and cause congestion. Lows can too, but usually low pressure gets stuck because of high pressure. Think of highs as like trucks and lows as cars... the trucks sometimes go very slowly and hold everyone else up.
