- The classic cabin in the woods has been wonderfully reimagined into an architectural masterpiece. In this weeks episode we visit an architecturally designed cabin nestled into the forest of the wild West Coast of New Zealand’s South Island.
Owned and designed remotely by Mark Panckhurst, a Hong Kong based architect who grew up in New Zealand, this beautiful modern cabin is designed to connect him to his homeland and create a wonderful space for him, his family, and guests to make new memories. The cabin was created with the help of his brother Andrew who gives us the tour of this spectacular place.
Drawing design inspiration from the old gold miners huts of the West Coast, this is a cabin like no other. From the materials used, to the clever design features, every aspect of this place has been painstakingly thought through. And the result? A wonderfully practical cabin which radiates quality while simultaneously encouraging you so sit back, light the fire, enjoy the panoramic forest views, pick up a book and slow down. Just like a good cabin should.
We hope you enjoy the tour of this amazing remote cabin. This cabin is available to book as a BnB through Canopy Camping: www.canopycamping.co.nz/biv-p...

We hope you enjoy the tour of this amazing cabin! Rasa and I were lucky to spend a good few days here, filming and enjoying the surrounding area. The cabin was so beautiful that I don't think the camera left Rasa's hand the whole time though! 😍
😊 and Bryce, you loved all the black, dark and cozy in there. The way your face lights every time you enter a moody space 😂 Both are satisfied.
It’s so wonderful you both had the opportunity to stay in such a one of a kind tiny cabin 🤍 great tour!
Stunning house those view's are just picture perfect...love the ending Bryce in the bath lol...thankyou guy's for sharing this gorgeous house...what a great place to de-stress xo 💜🇦🇺
Thanks for showing us this wee gem snug in the beautiful Punikaiki. I can picture myself here on a stormy day and how snug and cosy it would feel here with the fire going 🔥 🍃 oh and the rain on those wonderful big windows, love the triangles and think the flat aluminum?? Cladding? Not sure what you said it was called.i think it's genius for the no rust an the debre falls straight off. Would love to be able to contact Andrew an ask about the steel engineering side of the build?? As a west coaster myself I have seen many "batches"on the Coast Road over the year's and this by far is my favorite. 😍
As a builder that cabin is the exact opposite of simple. The more simple something looks the harder it is to construct. Impressive level of detail and finishing.
100% every part of this build had to be spot on.
Yep. "simple" exterior shape and maybe unadorned. That's where "simple" stops.
And an incredible waste of vertical space.
@@ClayMationNation but the shape of the roof is designed to let rain fall straight down the troughs of the roof so they dont use guttering, and don’t have to clear out all leaves etc from all the trees also. Plus it’s stunning and holds in the two huge triangle windows as well as providing relaxing space to sleep extras, read etc
Our carpentry class just did a job site tour of a cross laminated timber build apartment building here in Seattle. They said they only had a handful of guys assembling the CLT panels and beams and they'd do a level a day! Their project was also pre-cut and drilled with a CNC machine. Just unbelievably efficient building assembly.
That is not merely a house - that is both sculpture and a feat of engineering. It is both poetry in wood and stone, and a monument. As you can see, I'm struggling to express how awesome this is!
So SURREAL ! 🤗
Monument is a perfect descriptor for this place! It has a heavy sculptural quality to it, while still having a enveloping warmth to it.
This is the most unique tiny house I've ever seen! Thank you LBTH for this unique episode! Love the exterioral cladding.
Unique but an incredible waste of vertical square footage.
Unique means one of a kind.
@@susanfudge1737 really?
😭
Is this beautiful oasis just a family retreat or do they rent it out, just alittle confused with it so seldomly used...
I’m gobsmacked! 😮 Been following you for years and this is definitely in my top 5! I love the symmetry, simplicity, color choices, the gorgeous light fixture, and THOSE VIEWS!! Wow. I can’t even imagine how wonderful it would be to stay there! How fortunate you were to showcase this one! ❤
I know right! We were really fortunate to get to stay there for a few days. I also got to explore some of the surrounding area. The west coast is paradise!
Me, too. Maybe top 3.
one of the most beautiful small homes I have ever seen.
Bryce, you're a hoot to give your final words from a bathtub! I can't stop laughing! I have to admit this is one unique cabin with exquisite views from all around! I've really enjoyed seeing this little cabin.
I was thinking the same thing. Got quite the giggle out of me. 😂
😂😂😂
I though t he would have a rum and coke in the bath too!
CRYING! 😂😂😂 Next time I expect water and bubbles 🫧🧼
So funny Bryce!
Wow,wow, wow! I love the location of this beautiful and unique Tiny home. This is what I want sorrounded by Beauty of Nature. It's so Stunning! Thanks Bryce for sharing this inspiring Content. Keep safe 🙏❤️
The architect's vision of a timeless woodland cabin is perfectly realized. 👏👏
After all the years of watching your videos I never once thought about saying...this beautiful home was my favorite!!! Today I am saying this amazing home is my favorite!! Stunning 💞😘
Wow, just wow!!! What a talented architect Mark is, his design is prizeworthy for sure!
So Cool Bryce, the end of the episode, your final thoughts about this home, "In The Tub" So peaceful, relaxing, Love it! 😍This home is so Magical!! 💖
I'm not big on modern industrial, but this one might be one of my favorites! Wow! Someone move me to Western NZ! ❤
You can clearly say that a professional architect was involved in the construction. Just mind blowing design with stunning environment. This a perfect home, could make for an amazing Airbnb family getaway ❤
Gorgeous cabin. I love the cozy, in the woods vibe and simplicity, yet with a flush toilet. And it’s been so solidly built. I’d need a bit more kitchen but otherwise it’s perfection.
It's a holiday let, so would you?
Cassandra Scott, I would, you are out in the woods far away from any town, if you are planning more than a couple of days you need a refrigerator, I didn't see a vent, but I wasn't sure what was the stove. But all in all, certainly is lovely.
@@bkm2797 I was thinking along the lines of staples we have such as pasta, flour, pulses, tinned goods, etc, that fill our food cupboards that wouldn't be needed on holiday but yes, agree, it's lovely. Wowsome in fact.
Casandra Scott, that ran through my mind as well, but dry goods can be placed anywhere, altogether I agree it would be best to be located where you are cooking. Wish they would come back in a couple of years to see if they made any changes to the kitchen. Cheers
@@bkm2797 There are many I'd like them to revisit a few years down the line... There's certainly no shortage of video material for Bryce & Rasa...
❤ love the site and how the house blends into the surroundings. looks like a very comfortable place to be 😊
Wow that's a stunning house.😮 Wow. This is worth a double espresso! 😂 Cheers Bryce and Rasa, look forward to this one. 👍
Love it! Definitely worth a double. 😂 We had such an amazing time filming this place. The nearby hike that he mentions in this video is seriously one of the most beautiful walks I've ever been on. Stunning!
This was absolutely stunning. Took my breath away. This is the one I want - except with more storage.
possibly one of my favorite videos on this channel ever. What a gorgeous place.
What an Incredibly beautiful cabin with stunning views. They designed and built a labor of love that the family can enjoy for many years to come.
Thank you Bryce and Rasa
For the visit !! Thank you to the Family that conceived such a cozy and relaxing Holiday home and gave us a peak inside !
I had a 🫤 day but the enthusiasm of this nice guy makes it better! Thanks for your consistency ❤
Sorry to hear you didn’t have a great day, but I’m so glad we could brighten it up a bit for you!
Let's just say it all in synchronicity....WOOOOOWWWW!!! Such an excellent job and result, my highlight was hearing the family history and hearing from the brother architect Mark...Bryce, without you and Rasa we would not know of these architectural gems that exist in our own country...bless you both for bringing these amazing homes to show us and the world! And thank you Andrew for hosting us in your magnificent haven on the West Coast near those cool pancake rocks! Arohanui 💖
These guys are living my dream, to retire on the West Coast of NZ settled into deep native bush miles from other neighbours. Architect is on game here, using cross laminated framing is not common in NZ but I can see the benefits, well done!
That rug really ties the room together.
I rarely comment on TH-cam, and have never commented on this channel, even though I've seen some really cool wee homes. But man. This place is GORGEOUS.
This is such a beautiful "cabin in the woods"! What a lucky family to have such a wonderful retreat to escape to!
Beautiful...
What an absolutely stunning place!
Even though I’m not a typical fan of black industrial type of designs, this is gorgeous. The basics in decor/color keeps you in awe of the jungle you’re surrounded by. Those views are breath taking.
Wow, those luscious surroundings!
Like this cabin! The construction, building, layout, and space on the outside and the colors, decor, appliances (kitchen and bath) on the inside. Great! 😊💯💯👌👆👍👏
Love the intricacies of this tribute to "involved simplicity" - what a loving legacy to the family. And Bryce - it's ALWAYS a delight to see you settled into the newest (seductive) bathtub.
Forget the (albeit amazing) house. I'd live in a tent in that location. Just stunning!
His love, respect and appreciation for his brother shines through.
You are so funny in the bathtub at the end😅
😂😂right? So cute
This is soooooo cute, love it and surround with nature beautifully designed. And the large window looking out come on who doesn’t love that. The view the views that Rasa has captured is breathtaking ❤️❤️This is on the list. Thanks Bryce and Rasa for sharing from the tub 😂
What a dream it would be to have a place like this, very inspirational!
Wow, when money is plentiful, and you’re a super creative architect with a passion for detail and simplicity of design (even though we all know this was a major design challenge) you can create something truly extra-ordinary ! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
A "thinking-outside-of-the-box architectural design." Truly impressive!!! 💖
The house is sooo beautiful and organized. I would give anything to live in here.Much love from kenya.❤❤❤
That is one of the most beautifully designed "tiny" places I've ever seen. What a great holiday break that would make amongst nature like that and with those views...
Gorgeous cabin in the middle of the primordial jungle. What a magical place to stay.
I love the bathtub summary at the end.
The architect's devotion to vocation and nostalgic vacations
loved your bathical summary
This is such an incredible build and location! Absolutely stunning and you can feel it through the screen! What a way to unplug, reconnect and get grounded!
As an architecture student, stuff like this is what I dream of designing as a passion project, to get back to the initial joy of design and detail from the very beginning, but actually build it for real.
This is one of the few small-house videos from any source I repeat-watch whenever it hits my feed. I had planned on becoming an architect (wound up with a landscape architecture/fine arts degree) and every aspect of this build appeals to me. Total genius and fl balance!
The place of dreams, the house of dreams 👍👏👏👏
Love it! All the fun windows, glass doors. The magnificent views which open up to the wonderful outdoor rainforest. A definite treasure.
That location is so stunning and mindblowing it doesn't even look real, like something out of a CG film; and he lives in the center of it. Wow. The structure itself is incredibly well engineered, very impressive both aesthetically and pragmatically.
It’s real...and it’s really that green and lush. You need to visit!
That environment is exactly what I need in my life
From its location and the way they build their house is simply amazing 😍
Bryce just chillin in the tub for the recap… 😂😂 beautiful all around
Every Saturday Morning (IST), I wake up expecting a new video on this Channel, and watch it on TV while having my breakfast.
It is so inspiring to listen to stories, and to see the love people put into such cute, gorgeous, yet minimalistic homes.
Hopefully, one day I'll get to live in one ❤️
Bryce is right, this is breathtaking !
I'm speechless.
The design and layout of everything is perfect. among the trees For me, it's a real dream home.
This deceptively "simple" design captures the essence of blending the inner space with the spectacular outdoors. The focus is on nature, and the design beautifully complements the the surroundings. Window coverings, and excessive furnishings would add clutter. I love the "just bring what you need" elegance.
❤ SIMPLY STUNNING.
Stunning!!
How tasteful and serene-amazing!!
You are so cute Bryce choosing the tub to talk about your final thoughts 😂🥰 Loved this episode! The cabin is so WOOWW!!!
Tub talk. Love it! ❤️
I love it. It’s so beautiful.
This is the one i liked most, thank you for shearing!
It’s gorgeous!
Those fern trees surrounding it are spectacular
Wow! So very beautiful! ❤
So, we all try to "bring nature indoors", have a hundred plants, or funky plant wallpaper in a bathroom etc. This place just has... Windows 🤯. That rainforest is INSANE!! 😍🌿
Every time I watch an episode of Living Big in a Tiny House, I am amazed at the creativity of people to build a unique place. Also, while watching each episode I always imagine where Bryce will make his final comment, and this time as soon as I saw the bathtub, I knew it!
This has got be among the most beautiful cabin and location.
Pure exquisite heaven
I love how they worked around the trees and the fact that they are building on top of limestone. It shows how careful they were to protect as much as possible the forest/vegetation instead of destroying everything just to accommodate a structure. Great architecture all in all. The skylights are amazing and the window in the bedroom is truly breathtaking. 👏👏👏
I was thinking while I think it's a cool little cabin it was too simple for my liking. But by the end of the video I relized it's simplicity was perfect. You'd only use the cabin for a bit of a getaway and it would force you to do exactly that because it lacks distractions and and you're forced to just relax and take it easy. I feel after a few days spent here you'd find yourself refreshed for sure.
I love this cabin! This is the very best small space I have ever seen!
Absolutely 💖
I love this, the design and location superb!
The design of the rooftop reminds me of our traditional Joglo house in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Beautiful cabin, so cozy and calm. Perfect for a retreat. Thanks for another awesome video, Bryce & Rasa.
That’s a beautiful cabin!
Can't believe I'm here in the first minute. 🤩🤩🫨
congrats
What a beautifully design and gorgeous property without anything fussy or unneeded . Spectacular achievement in every way. To use the views provided by nature as your artwork is exceptional. What a wonderful place to spend time .
By far my favorite of all your tinies..Stunningly beautiful. The flora outside is primordial...without the bush features outside, it wouldn't be the same. Very insprining.
Wow! This is perfection….
A pure vision, indeed. Absolutely stunning.
I am in awe! My mind is so flooded with beautiful imagery, I'm at a complete loss of words to describe how it affects me! I want to live there with my cats! Thanks Bryce and Rasa! Great job Andrew and Mark!
Pure beauty! A dream.
beautiful!
What a magical oasis this gentleman created while paying homage to his family roots. He blended those ideas very well and it shows throughout the build. Love the atrium area at the center. So much natural lighting and views.
wow... and a breath of fresh air to hear Bryce 'excited' to see what's on the inside!
What a dream!
It's a great small cabin , enjoy your private time.
I do like this and the history.
FINALLY!!! A dwelling that looks so different than the usual box!! xoxo
One of my favorites
Wow! What a beautiful modern home!!
my fav!
Perfect . The place the cabin everything
Wow. What a truly magical "cabin." Everything about this spectacular property & dwelling emits pleasure & joy. ❤
Totally awesome🤩❤️👏
Absolutely gorgeous! And the Beautiful scenery out of EVERY single window is just nature's art.
Simply stunning!
Beautiful, beautiful space. Heaven!!
This guy is really living life. This is a total dream tiny house for me.
I love the view outside of the bedroom. Simply beautiful.❤
What a beautiful space.
