Yup that's me! I haven't even really considered a new bike for years. Every time I go look, I realize that I can find something just as good (with very low miles) for less than half the price. I REALLY want a MT-10, but $15-ish thousand out the door is a tough pill to swallow, especially when I could go get 3 or 4 used R-1s (or a Gixxer, a CBR, and a ZX-10) for the same price. This bike is the best value 1000cc naked of 2024 period. If you are thinking about the mt10 or even s1000r because a bit more horsepower peak think again as with a 'simple' £500 custom ecu flash it'll go from 157 to round about 170 at the crank provided you add a full system and a performance air filter so this bike in the SP version is a no brainer - shame it lost my beautiful single sided swing arm but I'd swap that for those ohlins any day of the year. By the way who wants a naked that can go faster than this one's 170mph on track? Well it would be cool but just not necessary. Ride safe.
The 2024 MT10 only has 1 hp more than this SP Hornet and it costs considerably more. If you absolutely need the crossplane i4 soundtrack then the MT10 is the buy… but performance value the Honda now leads the pack…

Just stumbled across your channel. Great video! I liked your little bit of history at the start. I have a hornet 900 and love it. Back along I spoke to an old school Honda dealer and he said something about why the 900 never took off. According to him it was because Honda took too long to release it, and when it was released it had stiff competition. The FZ1 had more power and the bandit 1200 had more torque and a cheaper price. However, i love mine. Its light, handles really nicely and 1-4 have some serious zing. Of its competition, i think its the thinking mans choice/happy compromise. If you can, go ride one! Youll be suprised.
In today’s world this looks to be a great bike with real world usability at a price that is affordable. I’m considering chopping in my Ducati 939 Supersport and buying it. Great video!!
A fantastic bike by the sound of it, but a missed opportunity in my opinion to have decent passenger accommodation and that daft exhaust gets in the way of any luggage.
100% agree. I need to be able to take my GF otherwise I won't buy it. Sure it has a seat, but it's a pathetic looking seat and my GF is not gonna be happy. She will think it is a selfish purchase because it's great fun for me and horribly uncomfortable for her. That one thing alone makes it a very difficult purchase for me. I already have a CB650R anyway so I don't really need a new bike but maybe in a few years I might be ready.
Not everyone can afford post 10k, so this makes a quality machine accessible, still with all the mod cons and performance with alot less to fork out monthly. You may not even need a pcp, even better!
How is the fueling around town at slow speeds my cb750 hornet had snachy fueling at low speeds had to select rain mode I Do love the look of this new 1000 Hornet
Are you sure turning down the engine braking in user mode wouldn’t fix the snatch feel ? Agree on Transalp rain mode is my preferred city mode , but also squeezing throttle between thumb and forefinger makes much smoother throttle response , whilst covering front brake with other two fingers .
What you were saying about that TC system cutting in aggressively when you wheelie sounds kinda dangerous. Like imagine you were in a group ride, you start powering out of a corner with a friend following close behind and then suddenly the bike stops accelerating and just slows aggresively from engine braking and suddenly your friend plows into the back of you. That is a real downer. It's all well and good making a cheap bike but if the bike is cheap because it's bad then that's unacceptable. How much extra would it cost to switch out that TC unit for something better? $100? Worth it.
Amazing value and this new Hornet could reset the minds of motorcyclists to look for value over expense. A great bike for the money; I can’t see why anyone would want to shell out £18K+ for a super naked unless of course they have to have a European or simply like flashing the folding.
Well done Honda. In Aussie we will be getting the SP version only. This will out sell the MT09 here I'm sure. Best of all the other manufacturers will be forced to address affordability.
Kawasaki have already responded by pricing the new updated Z 900 [which has more tech but less power] close to the new Hornet 1000. Both of these are now cheaper than the competition like the MT 09, Triumph 765, Suzi GSX-S 1000 etc.
Think of somebody considering something like a gsx8r for nearly 9 grand. Now you can have a full on litre bike with nearly DOUBLE the power for 200 quid more!
Looks good to me. Not everyone wants £4k+ of electronic rider aides. In my opinion traction control, wheelie control etc that some have takes the fun out a little bit. Maybe for people who cant control a 200hp engine?
Highests of fives, Honda. My economy super naked solution was a leftover MT-10 for thousands off retail, but considering Honda did that off the jump shows me they understand not every rider is monied up. A bitchin' bike shouldn't be a class issue.
I find it interesting how just a year ago all you guys went on and on about how inline 4 cylinder engines "lacked character" yet now you wax lyrical about how they are the all-around package.
Framing this as the return of a bike after a long absence is wrong. The Hornet 919 went away in '07 but the CB1000R came out in '08 and never went away except for one year in 2017. This is the new CB1000R with a new name, which is great! I do prefer the styling of the outgoing model though, the second best looking supernaked behind the Katana.
Here's hoping that this bike will start to drive down the out of control pricing that some manufacturers think is justifiable. This is bang on the price point for this type of bike and the sector its aiming for. It looks good, goes well according to reviews and more importantly, it allows new riders and affordable bike from new. This is the 2nd Honda to be released recently that seems great value..this and the CBR600RR.
These bikes are notorious for their heavily restricted motors. Honda's 1000cc motors are among the worse when it comes to restrictions. Just one ecu flash and it completely changes the bike. I mean these bikes can go from 130 hp to around 142 hp with flash. Nonetheless Honda have hit the mark with this bike in my opinion especially with the pricing.
Mine was done at jb motorcycles Dorset got 144.5 at the wheel or 162 at the crank - r&n performance filter, black widow full system headers are required as well as a scorpion red power end can. It's the Best bike I've owned to go fast. 2018 CB 1000 RA neo retro Café Racer.
@@marcoaguiar3226 what bike is that? I've done ecu, exhaust and filter to my 2013 CB1000r and i thinks its 129 at the rear wheel. I wonder what this new bike with mods will achieve at the rear wheel?
To give my age away, this reminds me of the 79/80 cb900f - just a very good bike, good price, not wasting money on exotica when you'd be just as happy with a wall poster for that. Just 50% more powerful. Have a s1000r, happy with it, but tbh I would like another honda.
Wow......was thinkingI';d be getting a new MT09 but maybe wait to see this new Honda liter bike. Forget what I typed - not avaiulable in the US, we don't get the 750 Hornet or the 1000 Hornet apparently. Honda too busy selling the CB1000R and CB650R
Nice review. This is a weird one for me as the bike, while clearly decent, is equally a seemingly fairly average & unremarkable mid-pack Japanese 1000cc naked. However, it's USP is obviously the price which is incredible & suddenly makes it a fantastic standout option. Although, the price alone doesn't actually make the bike functionally better, it does make it a very appealing ownership proposition & Honda will sell them faster than they can make them imagine.
If you like going fast and pulling wheelies, then you'll need the tc off, but then you got 150 horsepower, no traction control going through a 180 rear tyre. This bike is not made for pure performance, but still a good bike for a good price
@djmorgan823 I get where you're coming from but I'm not really bothered about wheelies or going that fast on the road anymore. I just like riding a bike around. I've had a couple of 150bhp bikes before without TC & I couldn't use anywhere near all the power so I'm pretty indifferent to this class of bike now. I essentially watched the review to see if it was too good to be true or actually that rarest of rare things in this day & age, a true bargain! Thankfully it seems to be the latter & this can only be a good thing for riders in general & more broadly the industry as a whole. It's also really going to shake things up in Japan too with a price war but no one can really compete without Honda but it'll be great to see them try.
It’s a race to the bottom of the price market , the 20k plus prices , all of a sudden just to much , rider are getting older , their smart enough to realise you don’t need the latest , greatest bikes , Honda have nailed it , you just can’t relay on selling premium priced bikes anymore , that bubble has burst ! 🏍🏍👍👍
No I had the hornet 750 for about a year and a half and I tried it in user mode like you say turning down the engine breaking didn’t make much difference. I have bought a Suzuki GSX8R now silky smooth the 8S was silky smooth as well but I prefer the styling on the 8R
Big question for me would be is it better than an MT10. I get it’s a fair bit cheaper but it would need to go some to be better, in other words is an MT10 worth the extra?
I've had the mt10 it is ballistic, very close to my tuono factory. The honda won't perform like these two bikes. If your a rider that likes to go pretty quick and want a cool naked, Take the honda and keep some 💰 . If you like 3rd and 4th gear wheelies, and riding like you shouldn't, and maybe the odd trackday, I think the Honda will leave you disappointed. You'll need that extra cash. I just bought a brand new tuono factory for 14 grand. I got electronic ohlins, full 6 axis imu, 6 riding modes, 8 levels of tc, adjustable engine brake, wheelie control, cruise control, a phenomenal 1100 v4 engine all for just 4 grand more than the honda.
The CB1000R was a uniquely styled bike in need of an updated motor. Now we get another nondescript streeetfighter lookalike. Such a lost opportunity to simply drop the new motor in the former design.
Im very impressed with this bike a Honda CB1000 for under 10k, but lets talk about the Elephant in the room! That exhaust its hideous and i know you can fit a aftermarket one but then it starts to ramp up the price and may also invalidate your warranty, i think its the only thing on what looks a brilliant bike lets it down.
A lot of BS is being said around 1:50. The CB750 WASN'T the first production 4-cylinder. It wasn't the first motorbike with an electric starter. It wasn't the most powerful thing on two wheels... But it was reliable.
Loos like a good workhorse. 140 bhp should be plenty for the street. I can see new velocity stacks, a full akrapovic and a set of 2017 cams making 160bhp. Might surprise a few at the track then. Sorry but it still looks a bit like a tractor to me. JDM aftermarket parts will probably change that though.
People are so focused on the low price but not on the fact that like most hondas it boring as fuck. Sure it will be reliable but it just looks like the laziest design ever copying ducati's streetfighter
Mines on order. Interestingly, Honda Australia are only bringing in the SP model as they know it will outsell the standard one by a very long way. The red IMO, just looks too close to a cheaper Ducati.
I’ve got a 21 Honda CB 1000 black edition PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT THIER DIFFERENCE is.. with this hornet.. not because I’m might get one. I just curious. I feel like where I’m from. It’s my own little secret weapon for fun. Nobody has them around here in city of Louisville, Kentucky I would love for you to let me know is the hornet in the CB 1000 similar because they seem similar to me. They seem very similar not quite twin brothers but?
Honda have worked a blinder, let’s be honest, who needs speed sensitive multi axis IMU stuff, who needs multiple traction control systems or slide control….. nobody…… track gods yes, they might want to lube their self worth, but not most riders, Honda 1000cc 150 bhp, great brakes, and suspension, nuff said,
Saw this bike at NEC have to say I was disappointed it's cheap for a reason I think build quality looks cheap! It's a lot of bike for the money but not for me , & why doesn't Honda fit cruise control even as an option on it 😢
What does Honda have against swingarm spools? Why do they refuse to provide some threaded inserts for them on so many models? In my mind this is a basic maintenance necessity. 😵

Interesting, information hasn’t come out about which models we will get in New Zealand but it wouldn’t surprise me if we followed suit!
Great review, i also have been considering a triumph 765, this throws a wrinkle at that
Think of somebody considering something like a gsx8r for nearly 9 grand.
Good job, Honda - looks like an excellent bike and a great price !
How do you think it would perform on track? Debating 765rs, R9 or this for next year and the extra horsepower is very appealing on the Honda
Very tempted
Keeping my eyes on this one. I have 2 years left on my Z900 and I am hoping for something a little more lively.
What are your major complaints of the z900? I have a z650 and looking to upgrade next season. Do in town and some highway.
Fantastic price! A real machine!
I think it'll sell like.hotxakes! Well done Honda.
Great video
I love my 2006 Honda 919 (sometimes called the hornet). Have fun.
Smart to let the other manufacturers go for power and unaffordability both bike cost and insurance
Yes.
It should sell like hot-cakes.
@@dondiabolo5308 2018 cb1000r neo retro Café Racer
Ordered my SP, it'll be a long wait until April when it arrives
Cheers mate, good review. One question though, if you want to fit an after market exhaust, are you going to lose the additional power gain?
I'm pretty sure the original hornet was a CBR 600 engine squeezed into a 400 chassis, great review though
To give my age away, this reminds me of the 79/80 cb900f - just a very good bike, good price, not wasting money on exotica when you'd be just as happy with a wall poster for that. Just 50% more powerful. Have a s1000r, happy with it, but tbh I would like another honda.
Thinking a small HH monogram in gold on tank ..would be stylish ?
Representing Honda Hornet 😊
an adventure touring version please honda :)
It's not coming to US is it
We've been getting CB1000s in the US for over 30 years. Not sure why this bike wouldn't come here.
@bk83082 I had a 2014 cb1000r. Really loved it
@cuzimaluzer777 I had a 919 Hornet, it was great. I did a 4000 mile tour on it.
@bk83082 yeah I've done some pretty big tours on roadsters.
Hope we get it here in the United States soon..hopefully.
Too bad this isn’t coming to the US 😢
Awesome!
You could buy three of these hornet 1000 SP bikes for less than the price of a Goldwing tour duct.
What power do you think could be made with a propper exhaust and ecu flash.?
Homerun by Honda 👍
If the flap is in the exhaust does that mean you cant put in an aftermarket one as that wont have flap that that talk to the ecu?
Very similar visually to the Z1000 Sugomi.
Honda quality in the last 10 years has gone far down. Kawasaki , Yamaha has stayed the same for the most part. I hope Honda has really returned!
Everybody's talking about the SP version but what about the normal one ?
1:05 it's just such a shame that they couldn't find a better end can than that big matt black thing
I like the idea of this bike but why do I never trust a review that includes a free holiday?
Big question for me would be comparison to MT10, I get it’s a fair bit cheaper but is it more fun? It would need to go some to be better.
MT10 might be a little better in some ways, but £5K better? I fugging doubt it.
No I had the hornet 750 for about a year and a half and I tried it in user mode like you say turning down the engine breaking didn’t make much difference. I have bought a Suzuki GSX8R now silky smooth the 8S was silky smooth as well but I prefer the styling on the 8R
In the market for a new bike in Q1 so really want to test this
Big question for me would be is it better than an MT10.
Thats my next bike after zx10r in uk
The CB1000R was a uniquely styled bike in need of an updated motor. Now we get another nondescript streeetfighter lookalike. Such a lost opportunity to simply drop the new motor in the former design.
Im very impressed with this bike a Honda CB1000 for under 10k, but lets talk about the Elephant in the room!
That exhaust its hideous and i know you can fit a aftermarket one but then it starts to ramp up the price and may also invalidate your warranty, i think its the only thing on what looks a brilliant bike lets it down.
SC Project, no worries with warranty.
A lot of BS is being said around 1:50. The CB750 WASN'T the first production 4-cylinder. It wasn't the first motorbike with an electric starter. It wasn't the most powerful thing on two wheels... But it was reliable.
The CB750 was the first mass produced 4 cylinder and certainly most influential.
2:48 I still have my 2002 Hornet.
HORNET ❤❤❤
Think i am going to chop by CB750 Hornet in for the CB1000 SP! 🎉
People are so focused on the low price but not on the fact that like most hondas it boring as fuck. Sure it will be reliable but it just looks like the laziest design ever copying ducati's streetfighter
it's Honda's way of saying "calm the f**k down"
Mines on order. Interestingly, Honda Australia are only bringing in the SP model as they know it will outsell the standard one by a very long way. The red IMO, just looks too close to a cheaper Ducati.
What was the price in AU$?
I’ve got a 21 Honda CB 1000 black edition PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT THIER DIFFERENCE is.. with this hornet.. not because I’m might get one. I just curious.
I think my 21 black E is so underrated we live in a world where everybody want the biggest and Best syndrome sothey spend more money for more horsepowers With big curvy tanks and headlights they pass up the elegant Honda CB 1000, and to my delight. I feel like where I’m from. It’s my own little secret weapon for fun. Nobody has them around here in city of Louisville, Kentucky I would love for you to let me know is the hornet in the CB 1000 similar because they seem similar to me. They seem very similar not quite twin brothers but?
Honda have worked a blinder, let’s be honest, who needs speed sensitive multi axis IMU stuff, who needs multiple traction control systems or slide control….. nobody…… track gods yes, they might want to lube their self worth, but not most riders,
Honda 1000cc 150 bhp, great brakes, and suspension, nuff said,
Hope the build quality is good ....not like my cb650r
Not sure why I'm watching this since I won't be able to buy one here in the states 😒
Winner winner, chicken dinner! (But can you still easily swap out the muffler for a third party)?
Was very interested but no cruise control, now my options are with Kawi and Suzuki. Honda slipped up.
Just a challenge to the mt
