Great review, really appreciate the honesty about nerves before the ride. I’d have been concerned about the power of the bike but also about going on a ride with some of the other journalists. All good guys but pretty hard core, experienced riders. Some of my least enjoyable days on a bike have been group rides with more experienced, faster (and let’s face it, much better) riders, feeling pressure to keep up before working out it’s better to be 5-10 minutes late to the cafe and face gentle ribbing than push too hard and never get there!
For comparison, I have a bmw c 400 x i use for commuting, it was ex demo with 200 miles but with the led lights, nav and heated grips etc they are £8300 new, I actually really love it but this new Honda could really help save the motorcycle industry, this price with a Honda badge on and a detuned fireblade engine could be a game changer 😮
@alexm6340 I agree that it isn't on the same level as the honda but while it doesn't have as much newer/capable components..... It's an ultra reliable bike with bags of characters for an affordable price.
Good review! Glad this popped up in the algorithm, smashed that subscribe button. As an owner of a cb 650r, and previously a ‘99 600f hornet, this bike really is tempting, even if I prefer the outgoing cb1000r looks, the price on this one makes it that more justifiable to upgrade
I don't think there's ever too much power, or that it's intimidating. If the brakes are good and the chassis is precise, the rider uses what's needed for the situation. Too little power or bad brakes or a poor chassis can be intimidating! Looks like a good package for the money, not sure you can get the best from it in with today's roads unless you live and commute in such perfect conditions.
For the benefit of anyone not familiar with the Honda Engine Braking feature via the TFT screen , it’s pretty amazing , you can dial the EB to maximum and it’s like having an automatic third brake .👍
First English review - thanks Dan! I think Honda has nailed this bike. I’m a retro fan usually (Thruxton owner) but there’s something really appealing about the look of the Hornet compared to other insect-like “super nakeds.” Keen to try one! Would you rather a free Hornet or Speed Twin RS? :)
These bikes look great. So many options for awesome affordable nakeds right now. CB1000R Hornet, GSX-S 1000, MT-09, XSR900, Street Triple, Z900, etc. I'm looking at buying a new bike here in early - mid 2025, evaluating options. All so great. I'd probably want the Hornet the most, but will likely end up with the black / gold 2025 XSR900, incredibly fantastic overall bike and insurance will be under $50/mo vs all the rest being around $150/mo for not all that much more real-world usable performance.
That would be a lovely bike and the Yamaha is a good chunk lighter so, as you say, on-road performance will be comparable. Certainly wasn't lacking when I rode it!
Flew from Ireland for a few hours over to Motorcycle live to see this bike. This must be the 1st review online. Amazing value, looks great, a few exposed cables (it's not pricey). Looking forward to this. Could be my first litre bike. 🤔
Although the SP version is under £10k, I suspect dealers will see this as an opportunity, to offer you a low price for your part ex. Good review, BTW 👍🏻
Kawasaki is holding back on pricing for the new Z900 because of this bike…they are in a serious bind. They do have cruise control and a 6 axis IMU which the Hornet lacks. They have to be at least 1,000 E/£ below if they want to take sales from this bike 😮 Thanks
I have the original mk1 CB1000R which I have had for some years.fantastic bike. saw thes at Motorcycle live.Great quality machine. tempted to trade up.
Great review will definitely be viewing this when it arrives in the shops. Just one dislike the exhaust looks like something from a bus hopefully there will be a slip on end can on the market to replace it
Great review. This is an interesting proposition because it's USP is obviously the price. However, in reality it's seemingly a good, but broadly unremarkabley typical Japanese 1000cc naked. Nonetheless, it's quite the achievement & Honda have put the competition to shame by offerring it at this price. Personally I don't think any of them can even get remotely close to competing at this price & Honda will sell truck loads of them.
Quite a shift from Honda I've the last couple of years, moving from premium-priced bikes selling on refinement and (allegedly) superior build quality to fantastic value machines that will stop the Chinese manufacturers in their tracks, let alone Honda's traditional Japanese rivals.
For such a tiny channel you are pulling in some surprising reviews on the newest of the new bikes. Last month the Classic 650 now the Hornet. Must be doing something ‘they’ like. Think this bike is the modern day version of the super successful Suzuki Bandit 1200 of the mid 90’s (yes I had one!).
@@tommytraddles I don't agree. I am 62yo and 6ft 4in. I can ride pretty much anything and long days in the saddle on sports bikes hold no fear. Not being a fat bastard helps and staying fit and flexible.
@jeremyr62 I'm your age and same height. Also not a fat bastard! I remember when the R1 and new, smaller, Fireblade came out. @@jeremyr62 I’m your age and same height. 150+hp bikes are not intimidating especially with the current level of electric helpers. I remember my days on fz1, sv1000 and z1000 without ABS, TC and wheelie control. These were the times when you have to know how to ride a bike, especially when doing 200+kmh on side roads. You should still know the power is there tho
My first bike was a Suzuki RGV250 and my second was a Yamaha R1. The more powerful the engine, the shorter the corners. So the R1 was by far the safer bike, in my experience.

Good to see how the other manufacturers respond to this with there silly price hikes and ridiculous interest rate charges just like back in the 90s high interest rates and ridiculous new bike prices only an idiot would buy a new bike anytime soon with a huge correction on its way like the car market.😎👍
Hi, congratulations on a great review , you did get one thing wrong though, the new 1000 hornet weighs 211 kg , while the 750 weighs 190 , not 10 different like you inferred but 21 kg , that's 46 lb in old money. I like the 1000 but I'll be staying with my much lighter 750 , only being a quite light rider at 66 kg.
Fair one - there are only so many stats I can bank in my head on a ride while trying to keep up with the other journos and I'd had in my head the 750 was over 200kg but you're right of course. So I stand corrected!
I really like the look of this bike and I was thinking I might get one, but those pegs look a bit high. I'm almost 70 and I can't have my legs tucked up underneath me any more. I want a powerful naked bike with a more relaxed riding position. Any suggestions? Maybe Kawasaki Ninja 1100sx?
There has to be a catch for such a low pice ??, have you checked the VIN # on the bike you rode, and check if it was assembled in either Thailand or Singapore ??, cause a fully made "Japanese" made Bike , will be pricier ??
You can be sure that it is not produced in Japan as already the 750 Hornet or Transalp. In another Video you can see that on the wheel rims there is a large embossing "Made in China".
One of the other journalists on the event was 6’ 4” and didn’t have any complaints about feeling cramped or the bike feeling small so you can take some hope from that. I’m 6’ give or take and while short in the wheelbase reach on the bike felt neither cramped nor stretched just … nice! Worth a try for you, if you have that option. Certainly don’t rule it out!
@@midlifecrisismotorcyclist i'm interested in buying but can't make my mind up between the two... for purely road riding, i would imagine the Triumph's low down torque would be better... but did it 'feel' quicker than the Hornet say from a standstill..or 60-70mph top gear roll on ? I would think the Hornet would be the better bike for 'more energetic' riding ?
@@h2allan Oh the Hornet is MUCH faster across the board, and a much more 'urgent' bike to ride as you say. The Triumph is perhaps more soulful so it's just what you prefer - both great bikes! Happy shopping!

Haha, not really! Speed limits, maybe? Styling wise I guess I'm not totally hooked on this look of bike and prefer the vibes of the CB1000R but that's a personal choice, isn't it. At the price hard to find much fault, really.
I'm surprised you say that you are able to use all the revs without being too powerful. Just because you are getting up high in the rev range, doesnt mean you're going to get the full 157hp. You will only get that with WOT obviously. Your throttle control dictates the power regardless. I just thought it was a strange thing to say.
@@amococ2487 You’re right - I probably didn’t get near full power but I think the short gearing helped the feeling you were getting more from the engine than you perhaps actually were.
@@midlifecrisismotorcyclist To be fair, I highly disagree with what amo is saying here. The statement 'you will only get full power at WOT' is factually incorrect considering I do not need a WOT to be able to reach 11.000RPM which is where this engines peak power lies.
@@motorcycle-man no, you just got your motor to rev to 11k without having to use full throttle........ think about it, for max bhp and torque, you're gonna need as much fuel(and air) as possible to generate the maximum power! Full throttle(at certain revs) is the only way to get the full power, half throttle(ie half the fuel) would give u half the power......
This absolutely breaks my heart. This amazing bike, along with several other Honda motorcycles will not be coming to American shores. It just makes me sad. I don't get it. Every bike Triumph makes is available in the USA. They deny us nothing. Come on Honda. DO BETTER.
I'm torn between the Hornet SP and the new MT-09 SP. I like the black/gold of the Hornet quite a lot more than the colourful Yamaha. But I feel like the Yamaha is the more nimble, more refined bike due to the lower mass.
I really enjoy your channel - always good reviews. I own a 2020 CB1000R which I love and was excited at the thought of this update. Unfortunately, looks-wise it’s now a carbon-copy of many of its competitors. I’m sure it’s a fabulous bike to ride as you’ve shown but even with its black and gold colour scheme, it looks a bit ordinary.
Love your bike - I've not tried one yet but it's very much on the list and, like you say, I think the looks are a lot nicer than this, no matter the Hornet has more power and all the rest.
If you get to do a comparison, that would be great - I’m sure many riders, including myself, would be interested to see how the new and older versions stack up against each other.
One of my first thoughts when I knew the prices of this new Hornet 1000 was that it is a two wheeled version of the Ford Mustang. The Hornet 1000 is the 2025 equivalent of the 1970s UJMs, japanese motorcycles that were simple, cheap and dominated by a big inline four engine. Despite the impressive price of the Honda I think that, overall, the Yamaha MT09 continues to be the best motorcycle deal in the current market. I really think Honda should offer cruise control (even as only an option). I don't think I could buy a motorcycle in 2025 without it. And because we are talking about Honda I have to say that I haven't yet recovered of the disappointment of not being able to buy the Hawk 11 in Europe. That, for me, is the most exciting motorcycle Honda makes, too bad it is reserved to the Japanese market.
No cruise control. a Beautiful bike but not for me, was very interested. I need cruise control. Honda slipped up big time. This is the year 2025. Not 2015. Instead of dominating the market in this class, you chose to just participate/ try and compete. Kawi and Suzuki is still ahead. I do not want a cheap bike, I need a bike that suites my needs. Kawi and Suzi does. Yamaha is loosing the plot in this segment. Honda is trying to catch up.
Niech lepiej osoba prywatna zróbi review, nie wszyscy kolko to samo.... Honda, everybody knows that you make cool motorbikes but its boring that everybody do it from the same place.... like in the farm
Just my opinion butmay be great bike but design is way to ugly. Little low wedge over headlight, huge muffler, high pointed tail. Engine area just to cluttered. Who is designing the looks? Prefer 90s to early 2000s naked look and same for faired bikes. Every new bike has no rounded flow Orr texture, just jagged slapped together shit look. I will never buy a bike thatbis that ugly no matter performance. I cannot walk into garage and look at it with out cringing😢

I love the pure obscenity of the exhaust, it's a feature, not a fault 😂😂
Did they talk about an e-clutch version?
@@BluesTheCool I did ask, actually. A very polite Japanese engineer said no plans for now. 👍
Now I’ve seen the forks I’ll give it a miss. Had the same told in a Street Triple r and they were horrible with nothing you can do to the internals.
would love to have that pricing in the Philippines when CB1000 hornet will be available. 🤞
an adventure touring version please honda :)
SO... you've ridden both- which do you prefer? the Hornet SP or the Triumph speed Twin 1200RS ?
@@h2allan Phew, very different bikes and riding experiences, both of which I enjoyed. Can I think about it and get back to you?! 😄
It got a Yamaha MT9 front, Kawazaki zxr tail and seat, and a Suzuki tank shape.. Clever move Honda.
The tail is from 2005
@@Bow-to-the-absurd Suzuki made tails like that too sir.. it's not bad, and the price is awesome. Still I keep my gsx 1250 fa, that's not a bad bike. What you riding sir ? I'm a old fart, had over 40 bikes :) mostly beemers. And honda's, some Beta :)
Where are you riding?
It was outside Benidorm in Spain - great roads!
Thanks for this; good review. Was there anything about the bike you didn't like?
Haha, not really! Speed limits, maybe? Styling wise I guess I'm not totally hooked on this look of bike and prefer the vibes of the CB1000R but that's a personal choice, isn't it. At the price hard to find much fault, really.
How is it overall compare to 2024 xsr900?
@@gregdominiclibunao2245 Similar in character and the Yamaha is much lighter but the Honda wins on sheer grunt, I think.
i hope we can fit luggage
Bet someone will do after market 😊
DO BETTER.
If it's priced like the CB650R which is priced at Street Triple R prices you won't be getting it so cheaply - if they even import it!
Wonder how neutered the power is on this.
I'm torn between the Hornet SP and the new MT-09 SP.
I like the black/gold of the Hornet quite a lot more than the colourful Yamaha.
But I feel like the Yamaha is the more nimble, more refined bike due to the lower mass.
Me too! I cannot decide
I will go for the MT09
CC and a IMU
@martinandersson5278 What is CC?
@ cruise control
@martinandersson5278 Wait, the Hornet SP doesn't have it?
SOLD- Take my money 💴
Not sure why I'm watching this since it's not going to be available in the US 😒
Honda will never sell it in America. Why? Who knows. We don’t get the Hornet 750.
That, for me, is the most exciting motorcycle Honda makes, too bad it is reserved to the Japanese market.
cruse control option or standard? also the navigation any good ? i think its default
@@PlayerSalt I’ll have to check on cruise + I’m afraid we didn’t get to try the app or nav. Something for when we have more time!
Shame all these new bikes have ‘snatchy’ throttles , can be dangerous, as you ride a bike ‘on the throttle’ EU emissions? Didn’t we leave the EU ? 😂
Looks like Honda has lots of left over engines on the shelves and now they want to get rid of them!
Better bike functionally, great price, but pig ugly compared to last gen. Kinda how i felt about the new CB650R.
Honda is trying to catch up.
widowmaker
Looks a bit cheaply made, which of course it is.
Still an awful lot of bike for the money. I'm looking forward to seeing it in the flesh.
seen one at motorcycle live. very well made
It's a great piece of kit. Top quality.
Spoilt by hesitant talking while on the bike, shame 😢 Obviously scared by the 1000cc engine, shouldn’t talk while trying to concentrate.
Muffler is ugly af...meh
I hope the looks grow on me - ugly as sin for now.
I was really hoping it wasn't going to look like the 750.
