Nice!! They just sent me the V2 motor made by Arrma and said they might not be able to get that spektrum one anymore (probably because the bearings keep failing would be my guess).

I am waiting on my replacement bearings. I had to make a Hook from a Small blade Screw Driver as a tool to remove the Rear Bearing.. Used a propane torch to heat the rear cap held by the Pliers.. Then I slowly pride the bearing out.. It was not easy.. I would love to see Bread Crumbs remove Yours...😂 I personally don't believe that at All..
Very helpful post. My typhon motor froze up and horizon is shipping a replacement but I took my old motor apart And the same bearing was obliterated. Just balls and shards of metal...and grease of course 🙄. Can't get the race of the dead bearing to budge though.
It is very difficult. I believe the housing and cap are aluminum, so maybe try to heat it up and the steel bearing shouldn't expand as much as the aluminum, and you might be able to get the rest out. Good luck and thanks for watching!
@RC Lee hey thanx for the link to bearings. My bearings were so bad well just the one in the nose that i couldn't get any numbers off of it , i got the number from the rear bearing and it ended up being to small when i took the race out and matched it up im in the process of repairing my motor only after about 9 or 10 runs and the bearing is blown out
I see you did a wonderful work for changing the motor bearings especially the big one 5x16x5. For me I am still suffering from that. And I couldn’t fit it , so if you don’t mind to show me an easier way
Try heat and cold (freezer or sunshine) to expand the aluminum housing and try putting the bearing in a sealed zip lock bag into the fridge or freezer for an hour.
Thanks for the vid on the exact same bearing problem in my wife's Typhon. The main problem I still have is that the motor bearing is completely exploded with only the outer bearing race still stuck in the end of the motor. There seems to be no way to get the race out now. Any tricks to accomplish that ?
Sorry to hear that! I would say hot and cold...possibly put the cap in the freezer for a while and then try to heat just the motor end cap with something (blow dryer, lighter, etc). The temperature differences may allow for easier removal. Let me know how it goes!
I literally just had the same thing...motor seems to have went bad after 3rd week of driving it. How'd you get them to replace it? I did the email-ticket thing...
Very helpful video really helps but i have a 4000kv and when i pulled the rotor out 2 of those curved washers fell out do u know where the other curved washer goes by chance tia
You're welcome! Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find those replacement screws, but I have heard that some people have found them on Ebay from time to time.
My response isn't showing up. Unless it keeps showing up but I don't see it. But those screws are on Amazon if u even need the cap screws for the motor. www.amazon.ca/XunLiu-Grade-Button-Socket-Screws/dp/B0756WS15T/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=m2x3+screw+button&qid=1570419268&s=hi&sr=1-1
Great video, I have noticed clicking in my granite on the first run but It wasn't that. Then after a bit it went away pretty much. I dont know why it was doing that becuase i checked almost everything. Thanks.
Sometimes a small stone or stick can get in there and then disintegrate. Sometimes things get stuck in the wheels and can make a clicking sound too, and then fall out.
You can try putting the bearing in a zip lock and throw it in the freezer for a few hours to get it to contract a tint bit. You can also try to warm up the housing with a blow dryer to help expand it a bit...just don't get it too hot.
Thanks man!! Awesomeness.. I really do appreciate this video and your time that it took to figure all this out And to make the video!! Thanks for the link for the bearings!! Your a lifesaver my man!! Just ordered me a set ✅
Hey thank you for the video! Where did you find the bearing sizes for Spektrum motors. I have the spmxsm1600 1900kv that needs new bearings. It’s a 4274 motor. Thanks!
Sometimes you can hear the bearing failure, but otherwise, trying to wiggle the shaft back and forth...if you notice any clicking or movement, it likely will need new bearings.
Thank you! Try putting it in the fridge for about 20 minutes, then put it in the sun for 10 to 15 minutes. Since the can is aluminum and the bearing is steel, the can (bearing mount) should warm up and expand quicker than the steel bearing, allowing it to be removed with less difficulty. Good luck and let me know how it goes! Also, a very strong magnet may help remove the bearing as well, since it won't be attracted to the aluminum and only the steel bearing.
@@rcleesd tried the fridge 🙈. Then the heat gun... No joy... I ended up at last resort. I drilled 2 x 2mm holes on the perimeter of the bearing from the top of the can... it tapped out with a small hex. Bearings installed and running again. Thanks for the clear instructions in your vid . I also have a motor on way from horizon under warranty that will be a spare, also a lot of spare bearings. Win win. 😉 Also subbed!!
So I am new to this and thanks a lot for the detailed information. Can you explain though how do I get the pinion out? After I got the screw out it is still stuck on the shaft. How do I pull it out? And later how do I install it in? Same about the motor cap and the cooling Metal thing. How do I pull those out and get them back in? Is there. Video on this?
It is possible that some of the locktite from the tiny grub screw (that holds the pinion to the shaft). If you have the newest version, there is a small "C-clip" (shaped like a "c") on the end of the motor shaft, right next to the pinion gear. Just push a pair of pliers (or anything, really) against the "open" part of the clip, and it should pop off the shaft. Hope this helps, the motor cap is difficult, sometimes you can put it in the sun or the refrigerator to get the metal to expand or contract, might help loosening those end caps.
Thank you for the information!!! Bought a 3300kv spektrum for my senton and it got her Wed. I'm assuming the bearing is out 3 5 minute runs later. And advise to help seal off the power module so it doesnt collect so much sand? If horizon doesnt warranty it I'm gunna have to rebuild. I dont wanna have to do this after ever other 2 runs.
My local shop didn't have the bearings in stock so I called arrma direct. I explained my motor was messing up and the internal bearings were shot. He said they know that motor has had known issues and did not have part numbers for the bearings. So instead they are sending me a new motor (and new steering servo cause I had to replace that 2 weeks ago) for no charge, even free shipping. I figured I'd post that information incase anyone else had the same issue. I'll get the bearings ordered on line and have a backup motor now.
@@rcleesd My bearing had a complete failure and came completely apart inside the engine. Getting all the broken pieces was easy, but getting the race out was a pain! The only way I was able to get the rest of the bearing out was to drill 2 1/16 holes on either side of where the shafts comes threw and use a small punch to tap it out. Once the new bearings come in and I get everything back together I plan on putting silicone over the holes to keep moisture and dust/ dirt out of it and this will be a backup motor. Think the silicone will work or is there something else I should use to seal it?
Looking at the TRB bearings and wondering how they have held up compared to stock? I also have the BLX 2400KV 4s motor does that motor have the same size bearings.?
Well thanks for letting me know. I could have swore that the new motors had the same size bearings and the old one has two different sizes. I think the one I ordered from tbr had all 3 bearings just in case. Well I hope lol.
Interesting, that may be the case, production has been crazy lately and companies are using what they can get these days. Let me know when you get it taken apart, if they are the same size or not. Thanks for watching!
thanks for this information you just saved me the searching of what bearings to deal with! Btw, when you seated the inner bearing did it seal completely from the pinion side? It looks like mine is in after a few taps, but there’s still a small gap between the bearing and hole where the pinion shaft goes out
Awesome, I'm glad it helped! Unfortunately, those are very hard to find. You might be able to get them as a kit or in a big set of hex screws, but I haven't seen them available in that size, other than in sets. If you do find them, please let me know as I have been asked this question a few times. Best of luck!
Great video thanks for making it .I know for sure it will help many people. I've been stripping my pinoin gear from my v5 typhon since the vary first run .my mesh is correct with my new pinion gear but I'm already noticing wear on it again I will take a look at my bearings because the car is brand new and I'm not sure what els could be causing this
This video really helped, but man that was a pain to do. The bearing really didn’t want to go in at all and it wouldn’t fully seat no matter what i did
Yeah, it is very difficult. I think heating up the aluminum slightly (to like 90 degrees) helps expand it a tad and can also help with removal...a blow dryer seems to be the most efficient and safe way to warm the metal. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Lately both my son and my Big Rock started making a louder sound coming from the motor. Both while rolling it turned off and also after truck is coasting. Since I verified it was coming from the motor I don't know what else to think it is. My granite blx which has the same motor is a lot quieter. Would bad bearings make sense on the motor sound?
Yes. It is very likely that it is the bearings. It could also be a small rock or twig stuck somewhere but if the sound is coming from the motor, then more than likely the motor bearings have failed. You might also get additional vibration from the motor if you hold the car in the air and pull the throttle, thus further verifying it is the motor. Try to take the motor out and wiggle the shaft (or pinion gear) and if there is play, the bearings are shot and need to be replaced.
My thought is the ceramic bearings would handle heat better and ceramic wears slow in my experience but not sure if it would make a big difference in this application
You are absolutely correct! They just cost a lot more, so depends on if you like having spares or just buy the good ceramic ones and hope they hold up. Either way works, thanks for watching!
I need some help. I had issues with the same motor and same bearing. I pulled apart the motor, and the bearing had shredded apart. Part of the bearing is still stuck at the end of the motor. What should I do?
Same thing happened to me on a second motor like this. If you can't seem to pry it out, then I would give Horizon a call, as it's a known issue with this motor. They will replace it, free of charge. I have a video about it if you look back over my library of videos. Hope this helps, let me know if you get it out, and or if you get a replacement from Horizon.
But what about the bearing in the other end of the motor? That's the one that just shredded on mine and I can't seem to get the outer ring to come out.
@@rcleesd Its only the outer ring that is stuck (all the ball bearings rolled out when the center of the motor was removed), there is nothing for anything to get behind it. It's not the bearing in the front cap, its the bearing at the bottom of the motor that you have to remove the motor from the housing to even see. At this point I've busted several dremel bits trying to cut through it at the terrible limited angles of approach as well as ruined several flathead screwdrivers trying to chisel it out.
how difficult was it to get the new bearing to seat in the motor? i'm trying right now and cannot get it to seat all the way in, it stops about halfway
Make sure that there isn't anything leftover...such as a bearing ring, if yours exploded? It's common for everything to come out except that outer ring. Other than that, you can try putting the motor cap (ends where the bearing go) in the sun or blow them with a blow dryer to heat the aluminum up (just a bit) so that it expands. You could also put the bearings inside a zip lock and toss them in the freezer for a few minutes...just don't leave them in there too long so they don't get moisture buildup. Let me know if you have any luck!
That's interesting...... I got a bunch of Arrma Granites well I got alot of Arrma and traxxas trucks and a few other brands. But anyway my Granites all had Arrma branded motors.... I got the BLX v3s and they have the BLX 3660 3200kv motors.. I haven't gotten one with a stock spektrum 3660 3200 motor.. that's pretty cool bro and those are my V3 trucks.. my v2 and OG V1 granites also had the BLX motors same size same kv.. and I even ordered two new Granites from horizon hobby I picked up a new mega v3 and a blx v3 and they legitimately just showed up a hour ago.. and my blx has a blx motor as well.. that's cool you got the better motor lol.. I normally swap my blx motors and ESC's for real spektrums and remove Arrmas blx / spektrum hybrids. I mean nothing wrong with the BLX systems but I found out that true spektrum esc and motors work better and seem to have more "ass" behind em.. excuse the language 😂. But it's true.. now one of my Granites I built up is my project joker truck.. it's got the outcast 4s body which is black I put the arrma Skinz joker skin on the chassis which I paid alot to get it here to north Carolina lol. It's normal 15 dollars but shipping across the atlantic ocean is like 35 dollars lol.. so I ended up spending 50 dollars for it.... But I got two I got the joker and the lollipop girl for my Granites and ordered more yesterday for my outcast 6s ect. But anyway my project Granite mega v3 has all metal arms shocks rods it came stock with metal gearing but I went ahead and swapped em out for hot racing bullet proof diffs so it's all metal now I made a custom aluminum center drive shaft at my dad's machine shop it's hella nice and it's anodized to a candy apple green color. My motor and spur module is aluminum also green my arms are green my rods are purple shocks are purple but I also got green ones as well. It's 99% integy hop ups. Now the motor is a 4076 surpass 2200kv it's black with the fins on it and the esc is a hobbywing Quicrun BL 120 and I run it on my Ovonic 5200 50c 3s lipos. Which I love those batteries very durable and trustworthy batteries. I had one of em charged fully for 3 weeks I totally forgotten bout it and I went to check it n discharge it and balance back out.. and when I checked it it was still at 12.6 V all cells where equal still..... 99% capacity which 3 of my chargers said the same thing.. so yeah those Ovonics are amazing. So I run them 110% on everything.. but yeah man you can put a 4076 size motor in your Granites it leaves a 1/4" space between the back plate and the reciver box you would have to press a little harder to get the motor out but it's worth it 😂.. it's so much faster then it was with my blx 3200 and my outcast 4s motor which is a 3668 size which is also a really good upgrade to a bigger motor. But that 4076 is a straight up monster in the granite. Way more torque and top end I got a 17t pinion on a 57 spur all mod 1 all steel atm. My other granites except my new mega v3 I just got which is my 4th mega truck all has hot racing and other steel spurs in them.
Thank you for the thoughtful response, I really enjoyed reading it! That's so cool that you made a custom center driveshaft! I bet that purple and green looks amazing! I'll have to take a look at those Ovonic batteries...Ive been using spektrum batteries, but keep losing cell balance, even after balancing, so I'm getting some dead cells, but might be from the hard bashing, not sure. Thanks for all the info and tips, I really appreciate it!

Nice!! They just sent me the V2 motor made by Arrma and said they might not be able to get that spektrum one anymore (probably because the bearings keep failing would be my guess).
@@rcleesd yeah they might send me one as well because it’s been a month since it’s happened
Sound research and how to, clearly explained. Thanks!
🙏 Thank you!
Huge help in replacing my motor bearings! Thank you!
You're welcome!!
Thanks for your video. I no longer have a headache about my busted RC Big Rock lol. Subscribed!!
I'm glad that it helped!!
This is such a valuable video. Tnx so much I just bought my bearings.
Awesome! I'm glad it helped!!
Thanks man. Even though it's pretty simple it's still nice to have a vid to watch.
You are very welcome, thanks for watching!
Thank you. I have my senton blx v3 apart cleaning, relube and inspection. I was wondering about this.
You're welcome, thanks for watching!
Love the details. Thanks for taking the time ✌
You are absolutely welcome!!
Great vid... after reading some comments on FB groups saying that this bearing change was difficult and then seeing this vid has me feeling great on how easy it is..
Great job man
Thank you!
You can use a thick grease also instead of bread crumbs. It's an old trick for removing pilot bearings from a crank shaft. Thanks for the good vid!
Good idea! Thanks for watching!
Thank you my man! Video helped out alot. Ended up pulling my motor back out.
Glad it helped!!
Great stuff new to your channel.I found answers thank so much.I was having a hard time myself, then i found this channel. Thanks for taking time to do the research and sharing it with us.See you on the next on.Stay Safe Stay Healthy
Thank you so much, that's why I make these videos and I appreciate the feedback!
Thank you man I just bought arrma v3 when I do need to replace those now I know how so I appreaciate your knowledge.👍
Thanks for watching!
Awesome video, just what I was looking for!
You're welcome!
Thank you for the bearing dimensions.. greatly appreciated
You are welcome, glad it helped!
I am waiting on my replacement bearings. I had to make a Hook from a Small blade Screw Driver as a tool to remove the Rear Bearing.. Used a propane torch to heat the rear cap held by the Pliers.. Then I slowly pride the bearing out.. It was not easy..
I would love to see Bread Crumbs remove Yours...😂
I personally don't believe that at All..
I definitely didn't do the bread crumb method, haha.
My bearings were so bad well just the one in the nose that i couldn't get any numbers off of it , i got the number from the rear bearing and it ended up being to small when i took the race out and matched it up im in the process of repairing my motor only after about 9 or 10 runs and the bearing is blown out
No problem! Bummer it went out after only 10 runs. Thanks for watching!
Awesome video bud. This is great info to have when the time comes. Definitely saving this one.
For sure!
Thanks for the info mine just went out and I also couldn't find anything on the motor .
No problem, hope this helped!
Very intresting!!thanks a lot .davvero interessante ed istruttivo un corso breve di meccanica
Grazie mille!
You did great explaining everything, my new bearings from trb rc just came in, so I'm about to tackle the rebuild
Awesome! Good luck!!
@@rcleesd turned out flawless, much quieter and probably 10% faster
@@phillipgardner5836 Glad to hear it!
Absolutely extremely helpful thank you for taking your time to find the information and share it with us just ordered my bearings thank you👍👍👍
I'm glad it helped, thanks for watching Luni!
Thanks for this video. My brand new Vorteks burned out the bearing after 4full 3s packs.
That's a bummer, glad the video helped. Thanks for watching!
Great info... subscribed now
Awesome!
RC LEE, THANK YOU....👍
You are welcome!
Same boat for me I have 2 both same issue great video thank you for sharing
I'm glad it helped, thanks for watching!
My Vorteks bearing went out only after 3 weeks from purchase date. Luckily Horizon is sending me a replacement for free.
Bummer, glad to hear Horizon is replacing it!
Hmmm, I don't want to give you the wrong information for that motor. Is it a Spektrum motor?
Same thing happened to me did you find out where the other one goes?
Very clear video. Much appreciated, thanks
You are very welcome!
Thank you! Do you know any replacements for the screws that hold on the back cover? I may have stripped them..
You're welcome! Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find those replacement screws, but I have heard that some people have found them on Ebay from time to time.
@@rcleesdI’ll search. Thanks!
Ya thats true but I didn't even take it out yet and it was doing that, oh well whatever it is is gone now so its fine.
Having trouble getting the new bearing in, any ideas? Already destroyed two new ones …
Awesome! I'm so glad it helped, thanks for watching and letting me know that you liked it! 👍
Hey thank you for the video! Where did you find the bearing sizes for Spektrum motors. I have the spmxsm1600 1900kv that needs new bearings. It’s a 4274 motor. Thanks!
I had to look them up on Google and some other videos to verify.
How would one know when to replace bearings in the motor? Anything to listen or look for?
Sometimes you can hear the bearing failure, but otherwise, trying to wiggle the shaft back and forth...if you notice any clicking or movement, it likely will need new bearings.
Excellent video my friend!! My senton is locked up and I didn't know why. This video was incredibly helpful. You got my sub and the like man ❤️🤘
Thank you so much!!
Great Vid!!!!Really struggling to remove the front bearing any more tips? Im scared to wreck the can and the hole for the stator too bad. 🙈
Awesome! I'm glad you got it out!!
Thanks for the info. Like u said there’s no info out there about Spektrum.
My pleasure! Thanks for watching.
I think it gets in from the bottom, but no idea how to seal that off...
Thanks dude I appreciate the attention to detail
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Excellent information here . Thanks
My pleasure. Thank you for watching!
That is great news! Thank you so much for sharing that information, I appreciate it!
@@corymra hmmmm, that's a good question...I guess silicone would be best.
Great video sir. Appreciate the time and effort that went into making this video. Saved me 100 pounds so will defo subscribe.
I'm glad it helped, thanks for watching and subscribing!
Looking at the TRB bearings and wondering how they have held up compared to stock?
I also have the BLX 2400KV 4s motor does that motor have the same size bearings.?
Hey Trey! The bearings have held up well, no issues. I'm not sure about the 4s motor, but I would assume it would be a bit bigger than the 3s version.
It looks like mine is in after a few taps, but there’s still a small gap between the bearing and hole where the pinion shaft goes out
As long as everything runs smoothly you should be ok.
Thanks for the video, very helpful. Ordered them right away! Do you also know where to get those 3 1.5mm hex screws?
Awesome, I'm glad it helped! Unfortunately, those are very hard to find. You might be able to get them as a kit or in a big set of hex screws, but I haven't seen them available in that size, other than in sets. If you do find them, please let me know as I have been asked this question a few times. Best of luck!
Great video thanks for making it .I know for sure it will help many people. I've been stripping my pinoin gear from my v5 typhon since the vary first run .my mesh is correct with my new pinion gear but I'm already noticing wear on it again I will take a look at my bearings because the car is brand new and I'm not sure what els could be causing this
I think it is movement in the adjustable motor mount, but not sure that's what it is...definitely annoying!
@@rcleesd I'll keep a close eye on that thanks for the info
Hi,would you tell me what size it is 3 small screws from back motor which one you left at the end video on the table, thanks
I'm sorry it was so long ago I can't remember the exact size of those screws.
They are incredibly tiny.
Very informative thanks bro
You're very welcome!
Will this work also on the Arrma senton too? Sorry I’m kinda getting back on the RC again..lol
Yes. I believe so!
@@rcleesd oh okay cuz I was checking on the one u show and compare the one on the Arrma website and it the same motor..lol thanx
My thought is the ceramic bearings would handle heat better and ceramic wears slow in my experience but not sure if it would make a big difference in this application
But heat and wear is what kills all bearings so idk
You are absolutely correct! They just cost a lot more, so depends on if you like having spares or just buy the good ceramic ones and hope they hold up. Either way works, thanks for watching!
Pretty cool thanks for the info 🤘😬🍻
You're welcome, thanks for watching!
Told the wife I'd stop at 7 RC's. Just the body alone! The smaller tires probably help with handling!
For sure! Seven RCs is a good number. 👍
Thanks man.my bearing on my old 4s motor blx just bust.was puzzled until I saw this.hard to find these bearings in England. peace
You're welcome! Best of luck finding the bearings, hopefully soon!
Amazing video! This info is gold !!
Thank you!!
But what about the bearing in the other end of the motor? That's the one that just shredded on mine and I can't seem to get the outer ring to come out.
There is a bread crumb method...check it out on TH-cam and let me know if you have any luck popping it out with the bread trick!!
Good knowledge, that’s for sharing
You're welcome, thanks for watching!
Does anyone know if this size bearings will work on the spektrum 3900 KV motor and the BLX 2400 KV motor
Did you ever figure this one out?
Great video! My motor is squealing badly. Do you think its the bearing inside?
More than likely!
how difficult was it to get the new bearing to seat in the motor? i'm trying right now and cannot get it to seat all the way in, it stops about halfway
@@rcleesd Same problem, I’ll try helping with heat/freeze
Good job. Really nice video. Two thumbs up Thank you
Thank you!
