One of the greatest weaknesses of the Harrenhal lordship in my opinion is the location of the whole thing. Being so close to kings landing, the at the gods eye and a central location in the 7 kingdoms. This means that whenever a big smackdown happens, then Harrenhal is too big of a location to be ignored, as it makes for a great foothold in the Riverlands and crownlands. This means all armies of the fighting factions will rush to Harrenhal to capture it and cause the lords of Harrenhal to pick a side quick. Most houses don’t have the wealth to maintain or rebuild Harrenhal, but the very location means that everyone will be knocking on their doors if any conflict breaks out
True, but that central location is very useful during peacetime as a conduit of trade. I don't understand why the Lords of Harrenhall aren't rolling in gold. A good idea might be to turn Harrenhall into a massive market with several smaller villages inside the protection of the walls and only leave Kingspyre tower as the habitation for the lord. Harrenhall could become a major trade hub.

@@gerardjagroo I’d probably say that one of the reasons for that is that the houses that took hold of Harrenhal were either small, or knightly houses (Qoherys/Towers) or if they were business minded they didn’t have the lands king enough before they were wiped out.
Pronouncing it "Hor-ra" kinda makes it sound like "horror", which I like better than "whore". The family died horribly and every other owner of the castle has ended in horror.
+ they were kings of the Iron Islands for millennia and participated in their fair share of horrific activities Harrenhal was basically built by enslaved- I mean, ENTHRALLED, riverlanders

So it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy where people say whoever holds the castle their house will die, however, the only people who get the castle are those who have some level of ambition and after getting Harrenhal that same ambition that got them the castle causes them to die.

The former Lady of Harrenhal, Shella Whent, may or may not be alive (it’s unclear) but her children, husband and brother-in-law are all deceased. He didn't love his first wife, he was loyal to his brother, his first wife was a hightower so maybe he opposed their influence and his brother opposed him disregarding his marriage. He was also a fantastic swordsman whom wielded dark sister.

Harren was a moron....if he had just bent the knee he would have had Aegon keeping him in as Rivers and Isles and a castle that really only Aegon could threaten...and then you sell Aegon on expansionism into Essos why stop at 7 kingdoms when you can get 3 for the price of 1 with the Triachy....Volantis has legit Valyrians which would mitigate the need for the Targaryen family stuff....as they could establish multiple bloodlines to create genetic diversity mayhaps dodging the coinflip....and of couse...Ghiscar and that massive slave trade to end :P possibly whilst rebuilding the Imperial Legions so House Targaryen has a standing army
