When Preston dropped that theory on me, I swear my mind was blown. He likened him to Varys, and it kinda makes sense, if you're a conspiracy theorist like me.
Why would anybody care enough to chop it off and hide it after he’s dead though. He himself wouldn’t care to make sure it’s hidden, because, yknow, he’s about to die
Elisabeth Báthory is nowadays also thought to have been victim of a plot against her, by some scholars at the least. The accusations against her came out of the blue the moment her husband died and she inherited all his lands. Her liege lords the Habsburgs borrowed heavily from her family to pay for their war efforts and her lands were strategically important. Lastly, all the witness accounts against her were given under torture, while she herself was not permitted to defend herself at her own trial.
Also like De Rais no mass graves have ever been found. I believe the guy who "investigated" her, Juraj Thurzó, received her lands after her death and her nephew Prince Gábor Báthory (next of kin but enemy of the ruling Hapsburgs) was in Transylvania. He was accused along side his Aunt as some kind of conspirator but nothing ever came of it and he was basically disinherited (but he was a prince so he didn't really need her lands).
@@secretpoo Not at all. In Hungarian her name is spelled Báthory Erzsébet, and pronounced [ˈbaːtori ˈɛrʒeːbɛt]. I just used the German spelling of her first name because I am from Vienna :)
Honestly though, I do love there's some ambiguity as to whether Harenhall is "cursed" or if it's other circumstances that just happen to surround it. Harenhall is typically a prize given to those who've earned the favor of the current reigning king. And people that close to the throne tend to be embroiled in the heart of politics, which in Westeros tends to be very bad for one's long-term health whether it be from stress or coming down with an unfortunate case of knife to the heart. It can be argued that the holders of Harenhall aren't "cursed," but they do tend to be short lived because of political shenanigans. Plus Harenhall is huge and in enormous disrepair. Even the largest houses would be hard pressed to fill the entirety of Harenhall with their family and servants. Rain constantly drip from holes in the ceilings and winds how through the abandoned towers and hallways. That is enough to drive anyone mad given enough time. But at the same time this is also a world where dragons exist, undead hordes haunt the farthest reaches of the North, and red priests can bring people back from the dead. So who's to say that ghosts and curses also don't exist? And that Harenhall is indeed legitimately cursed? It's a fun bit of ambiguity that I hope never gets answered
What do you think are the words of some of these houses? My take are as following: Strong: "On the back of dragons" or "we are strong boys". Lothston: "Thermal services to die for." That theory about De Rais being innocent and just accused because of his loyalty to Joan and his lands makes sense. I especially find it curious that they had absolutely no evidence other than the confession they got from torture.
De Rais story is rather intriguing, I only did the barebones wiki reading to make the script but theres a few people out there doin real historical research about it. The theory that it was to seize lands makes a lot of sense to me and the methods are in line with a few other dubious land grabs of the era 😳
I was suprised that nobody fixed up Harrenhal after the Dragons died out. The Castle could have served it's original purpose well. That said, none of the Houses that controlled Harrenhal appeared to have the means or the longevity to do this.
I think the only house suitable to rule harrenhal are the Blackwood's imagine if they end up as lords of the riverlands in the end of the book's (I have a feeling they are the inky ones who can survive it's curse)

NOT steel. Iron-and it was made for her. Why is her armor Iron, not steel? IN Blood raven's cave, Bran notes the skeletons of HUGE bats. Didn't Mad Dany have a 'thing' for HUGE bats? Hmmmm...Mad Dany and BR had a long-term relationship of some kind. When BR tells Bran 'a brother I hated, a brother I loved, a woman I desired' the woman isn't Shiera. It was Mad Dany or Rohanne Webber. BR HAD Shiera-he didn't 'desire' her-he loved her. The woman he desired? He either NEVER actually 'had' her, or she never 'gave' herself to him is the strong implication there. I do not think ANY woman BR had a thing for came to 'happy' end, is how it all reads to me.
The fact that Larys' foot went missing has had some believe that his disability was completely made up as to make his enemies underestimate him.

Baelish: "Fishing since the turn of century."
Lothston: On Black Wings
Whent: I’m Batman
For House Strong, to recall the Trident and their importance to the Dance, I’d say their words are - “Strong Does it Run”
Baelish: "Chaos is a ladder."
Aegon 4th and viserys 2nd are perfectly drawn. Totally recognisable

There's something so morbidly funny about Aegon's face suddenly being burned at 2:53 without any mention as to why
While I look forward to seeing the Clubfoot die, I can still respect that he asked to be rid of the clubfoot first.

Thanks for paying respect to the sigil of House Randym of Longwind.
Its amazing how even in its ruined state Harrenhal is still the only castle large enough to host all the lords of the land for the great council.
