APOLOGIES to Jimmy for saying his TH-cam channel wrong in the intro. That was take #7 of doing the intro & neither of us noticed. It's supposed to be: LotsOFGames ;)
I had so much fun doing this video. Growing up I loved going to the arcades with my friends. My love for arcade games is still strong. Thanks to everyone for watching and thanks to Metal Jesus for the opportunity to talk about some of my favorite arcade titles!
I've played a few of these at the Galloping Ghost Arcade in Brookfield, IL, like Ninja Baseball Batman, Mystic Warriors, which really grew on me during my last visit, and Wild West Cowboys of Moo Mesa. I love that you guys like that game so much!
Hands down my favorite game was Black Tiger. My friends and I got so good at it, we could finish the game with one quarter without dying. My dad had an arcade while I was growing up and one of the first games I remember was Exerion. Also one of the last cabs he had was St. Dragon. But I could go on and on.
Here is a idea. How about getting the whole Metal Jesus crew together (Specially Reggie) and have a jeopardy like show but about everything retro games. You can have John Hancock be the host and the winner can win like a gold plated console. You can have this game every year. What you guys think.
Thank you Metal Jesus and Jimmy! You guys are stellar guys; your support and shout outs are invaluable, so THANK YOU. If anyone has any questions or needs any help with LaunchBox, hit us up here and we'll answer them for you! :)
I don't think I've ever come across a more Indiana Jones-like game than The Cliffhanger that's actually not branded as such. Great episode. More arcade games, please.
I still cannot get over the fact that, As a Hardcore Collector/Player, you have a TFT and A generic off the shelf joystick in your Cab. There are so many Cabs out there, with just the minimum of work, can be bought back to life and Mamed, and the games will look so much better on a 15hz CRT. My Current cab is an absolutely beautiful old Virtua Fighter 3 Cab with a 28inch CRT.
I played Mystic Warriors as a kid once at some arcade, fell in love and never found it again, so glad you guys included it in this video, awesome awesome game. Also Cow Boys was one of my favorite games at the arcades, but at least that was always there to play :)
@MetalJesusRocks and Game Sack are the only channels I see that cover a lot of these great arcade games that I might have seen a couple of times as a child but could never find again. Best Channels on TH-cam!
Thanks for the video The Cliffhanger Edward Randy, Elevator Action Returns and Zero Team will be added to my Mame arcade machine. Some suggestions for less well known games are: Night Slashers, Martial Masters, Deathsmiles and Daraku Tenshi: The Fallen Angels.
If anyone's in the Chicago area, stop by the Galloping Ghost Arcade. It has five of the ten games: Ninja Baseball Bat Man, The Cliffhanger Edward Randy, Elevator Action Returns, Mars Matrix and Wild West Cow Boys of Moo Mesa. Edward Randy is as amazing as it looks.
I built an arcade machine with my Dad and I must say, there are 2 games you use the trackball with that are a LOT OF FUN! They are the most fun to play when you are drinking with friends. One is a bowling game called "World Class Bowling" and a horse shoe game called "Shuuz". They are just hilarious to play with friends and everyone gets so competitive about it!
Man, I played the shit out of Cowboys of Moo Mesa as a kid. It was my favorite arcade game back then. When you mentioned Sunset Riders, I was like "Are they gonna do Cowboys of Moo Mesa?" and I was a little disappointed, but then you redeemed yourself by picking it at the end :)
FINALLY someone mentioning Dungeon Magic/Light Bringer. This was my favorite game in the Arcade days (Well, my second favorite. My absolute love will always be War: Final Assault)
My local CiCi's Pizza had a Wild West C.O.W. Boys of Moo Mesa cabinet that I played every time my parents took us there. I almost cried when I went in one day and it was gone, but they replaced it with a Neo-Geo multi-cab with Metal Slug X and Baseball Stars 2, so that helped.
HOLY FUCK!!! Zero team... I have been trying to find the name of this game for over two decades... We played this game all days, months. I have to reinstal MAME now, I can't belive it. One of the very best!!! Thank you sooo MUCH! (^__^)
Had an opportunity to try the games you suggested and I’m happy to say that they are all on my arcade retro system. I’m glad I discovered your video. It’s so hard to filter through the thousands of games on my system and I have to say my favorite is that ninja batman game lol. It’s a beautiful game and the gameplay is solid.
I would honestly play every one of those games! They all look like so much fun!!! Thanks for the video guys! Also Jimmy has a great channel, I'm glad I'm subscribed to him!
I played Wild West Cow Boys of Moo Mesa as a kid but never knew the name. Watching this I had that game in mind, great to see it on the list and to putting a name to the game to my memories
All bangers! Didn't knew about Ninja Baseball Bat Man having so few cabinets in the US, I'm from the north of Mexico and used to play one at my local arcade, but I think it was a bootleg cabinet. It was one of the small white ones, not the huge 4 player cabinet I've seen online.
Ninja Baseball Bat Man was a hit arcade game in my part of Canada because whenever i went to the arcade people were always on it making it hard to play at times.
Realize this video is a little old, but I'm super stoked I found your channel. In the process of building my AIO cabinent and looking for some additions to it. Everyone else recommends the obvious games like Street Fighter, Metal Slug, etc. I love coming to your channel and ALWAYS finding new shit that either myself, my friends, or my family including my four year old daughter will enjoy. Keep up the content mates.
1. Demon Front would make a good movie. 2. The Cliffhanger Edward Randy looks like he is fighting the poor relative of Cobra. 3. OMG, Mystic Warriors! I completely forgot about this game. I remember it was one of the last arcade cabinets arrived at the place I mostly went to play them. (soon after, they moved) I wasn't ANY good at it but....or liked it that much....but it has a special place for the reason I mentioned. 4. I don't remember the game Wild West Cow Boys of Moo Mesa, but, I think I have seen the cartoon once. Or was that BraveStarr? Hmm Another great video, thank you for sharing.
This really is a great slept-on arcade game list, tons here even I never heard of! I'm obsessed with the arcade game 'Toki', wished it was mentioned in the videos.
Yeah, you're gonna need a part 3 here. Just discovered Biomechanical Toy; it's trippy. And Arabian Fight. Some parallax scrolling or something gives it more dimensions and bags guys jump in from front of screen and Egyptian heiroglyphs peel off the wall and attack. Really cool graphics engine.
There are a lot of new games that I have to try; thanks for this! I'm a big fan of Mystic Warriors, but for me, no Arcade game is better than Trog. Trog plays a little bit like Pac-Man, but you can punch any of the enemies to send them flying off the islands. What really makes it shine are the power-ups; you can get fire breath, freeze everyone on the screen, or transform into a T-Rex and devour them all. Beautiful scenery, simple gameplay, great bonus stages, and the final level is an absolute blast!
Hidden gem suggestion,I played this really old school game called Galaga. It was pretty fun, more people definitely need to play it. Awesome retro sounds
I'd really love to see more of these MAME/Arcade "hidden gems" videos. Given that there's literally thousands of arcade games, many of which never received home console ports, I feel there is an untapped goldmine of hidden gems to be found.
Thank you so much for putting the names in the description! Now I can just watch your video without taking notes! I would love to see the number of players each game supports thrown in somewhere.
Man I love Wild West Cow Boys of Moo Mesa...I remember playing it many years ago at a random family fun center and loving it because I was a huge fan of Konami beat em ups like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Simpsons Arcade game as a kid...one of the first games I played on Mame
my favorite hidden gem game (at least here in the U.S.) would definitly be Namco's Legend of Valkyrie. Imagine The Legend of Zelda the arcade game, brought to you by Namco, and it's a 2-player adventure. It's every bit as amazing as it sounds
Oh, man. I've actually played Ninja Baseball Bat Man in Laughlin,NV at Harrah's way back in 1994 or '95. I loved that game. I need to get a new working MAME to play it again. My last one is way out of date
Favorite Arcade game was C.O.W.-boys of Moo Mesa, followed by Simpsons and then X-Men. Lots of quarters.... Lots of time spent playing.. lol Glad you mentioned that game at the end. :)
Metal Jesus you should totally have Jimmy on the channel again, he brought some absolutely fantastic recommendations! Every single one of them look awesome. Thanks for the video! :P
You have to check out "Night Slashers" guys, this is a fantastic beat em up set in a horror / zombie setting, there were 2 versions, one "with blood" amazing level design, and a whole lot of fun!
Cool vid. Love arcade stuff. Yeah - Capcom only published Mars Matrix - Takumi were the developers (the same guys behind Giga Wing which has very similar mechanics). These games aren't what I'd describe as 'hidden gems' many were pretty major releases (barring Ninja Baseball Bat Man). I'd suggest taking a look at some of the hacks / improvements i.e Metal Slug 2 Turbo (bugfixed MS2) or unreleased stuff that got dumped - like Wing Force. Did you cover Namco's Outfoxies yet? Awesome game, predated smash by quite a bit. Also - maybe stuff like Taito's 'Recalhorn' or 'Liquid Kids' (Mizubaku Daibouken) which you might have some fun with :-)... or Osman, which kicks an amazing amount of ass... or 'crackdown' (crazy bomb planting fun).
I actually covered Cowboys of Moo Mesa for the first time on my Twitch Channel a couple of months ago and I absolutely loved it. I popped so hard right now when I seen it was included on your guys list. Awesome!
I don't know if it's much of a hidden gem, but that Punisher beat'em up is really good. Not quite as obscure as that Moo Mesa game, but not quite as popular as stuff like the Simpsons beat'em up or the Turtles beat'em up
Great video! I recently bought a MAME machine and I am curious to know how people challenge themselves with arcade games since you can just keep continuing. Do you just play through the game for fun? Limit youself to a certain number of continues (in total or per level)?
when i was a kid my best friend's dad had a sinistar cabinet in his house and we would stay up all night completely frustrated. DAMN YOU SINISTAR! memories......
And there I was writing the titles down before you mentioned that you put them in the description :) Also: I saw Sub Culture for PC in the background and just bought it again on ebay. Great game!
Zero Team looks hauntingly similar to Streets Of Rage series, or "Bare Knuckle" in Japan. In particular, Streets Of Rage 2, which had very similar looking characters, artwork, and level design. I think maybe you can interact with things more in this game, but SOR2 was one of the first 16 Meg games on the Sega Genesis 16 Bit platform back in the early 90's, and was very interactive for a side-scrolling beat-em-up title.
Not sure how I made it this far in life without knowing about a game where you ski & shoot bad guys at the same time - thanks for righting this wrong. :)
APOLOGIES to Jimmy for saying his TH-cam channel wrong in the intro. That was take #7 of doing the intro & neither of us noticed. It's supposed to be: LotsOFGames ;)
hey man! luv your channel! can you do a video on a raspberry pi arcade build ?id like to hear your take on that! cheers from Brasil!!!!!!!!!!
Willian monteiro pires i would like a vid about this 2 as im debating wether to build a basic set up then upgrade as i go x
Hey no worries! I am just glad we were finally able to get that intro finished. :D
I recommend the RetroPi 100%, the magic is in the micro-SD card, get a good one with lots of space (64 GB+) and you'll be set :)
Very nice recommendations
I had so much fun doing this video. Growing up I loved going to the arcades with my friends. My love for arcade games is still strong. Thanks to everyone for watching and thanks to Metal Jesus for the opportunity to talk about some of my favorite arcade titles!
JIMMY!!
jimmy
lotsofgames zero team rocks!!!
Rad video! Made me want to look in to MAME again.
i played the game you call Light Bringer and love it....but here it was called Dungeon Magic
I've played a few of these at the Galloping Ghost Arcade in Brookfield, IL, like Ninja Baseball Batman, Mystic Warriors, which really grew on me during my last visit, and Wild West Cowboys of Moo Mesa. I love that you guys like that game so much!
i really like this dude. he talks about games like hes genuinely a fan who wants to spread his passion for the medium. hope he becomes a regular guest
Hands down my favorite game was Black Tiger. My friends and I got so good at it, we could finish the game with one quarter without dying. My dad had an arcade while I was growing up and one of the first games I remember was Exerion. Also one of the last cabs he had was St. Dragon. But I could go on and on.
No please, Go on!
Yes! Black Tiger is amazing. Loooove the gfx.
Here is a idea. How about getting the whole Metal Jesus crew together (Specially Reggie) and have a jeopardy like show but about everything retro games. You can have John Hancock be the host and the winner can win like a gold plated console. You can have this game every year. What you guys think.
Hektor Abercrombie awesome ideal
Drunken Master Paul should be the host, but other than that, good idea!
I don't know about that. John Hancock will win every time. We need to keep this fair. Plus imaging seeing him in a suit.
Then don't invite him as a guest every time. DMP would clearly be the more entertaining host!
Reggie is AWESOME!
Thank you Metal Jesus and Jimmy! You guys are stellar guys; your support and shout outs are invaluable, so THANK YOU. If anyone has any questions or needs any help with LaunchBox, hit us up here and we'll answer them for you! :)
So glad I got the chance to share my love for the LaunchBox app. I appreciate all of the hard work that the LaunchBox team does!
Thank you Jimmy! We're just ecstatic to be able to keep doing what we love doing, and we owe that to the entire community. :)
LaunchBox I just bought it and I'm loving it!
That is awesome to hear Anthony!!! Thank you sir. :)
Do more mame hidden gems. Arcade is the best source to discover them, since its ingent catalog.
I don't think I've ever come across a more Indiana Jones-like game than The Cliffhanger that's actually not branded as such.
Great episode. More arcade games, please.
This is an incredible list of games. I want to play every single one right now! I have a booked weekend for sure
So glad you enjoyed the video!
Have a great weekend! :D
I still cannot get over the fact that, As a Hardcore Collector/Player, you have a TFT and A generic off the shelf joystick in your Cab. The Punisher arcade game (1993) is absolutely not to be missed by fans of beat-em-ups.
Quite mainstream really, like Cadillacs and Dinosaurs.
OjoRojo40 yeah it's well know. Great game though
Thanks guys! We were playing Light Bringer and it was a ton of fun. More in depth than your average beat-em up.
Jamie Tibbetts That arcade sounds super rad. If I am ever in that area I am going to spend some serious time there with a huge stack of quarters! 😁
No need for quarters. $20 gets you unlimited play all day. It rocks. \m/ I'm there every Monday. :)
Awesome games on this list I never knew about. Thanks!
More MAME gems videos, please.
Thanks for the video!
Ok, this was a good idea for a video! There are so many Arcade games out there that most people, including myself, never got a chance to play. Kudos!
I remember Elevator Action Returns appeared at my local Bowling alley in Burien around '95-'96. Holy cow, it was awesome to see then!
No Super Battletoads Jason? Unforgivable!
Hi
Radical Reggie that game is awsome
Reggie, sounds like you are offering to help with the NEXT Arcade Hidden Gems video!?
MetalJesusRocks that vid would be godly
Reggie's going rogue hehehe
I built an arcade machine with my Dad and I must say, there are 2 games you use the trackball with that are a LOT OF FUN! They are the most fun to play when you are drinking with friends. One is a bowling game called "World Class Bowling" and a horse shoe game called "Shuuz". They are just hilarious to play with friends and everyone gets so competitive about it!
I just played ninja baseball batman in the arcade last weak, didn't realize it was a rare cabinet, awesome!
Man, I played the shit out of Cowboys of Moo Mesa as a kid. It was my favorite arcade game back then. When you mentioned Sunset Riders, I was like "Are they gonna do Cowboys of Moo Mesa?" and I was a little disappointed, but then you redeemed yourself by picking it at the end :)
great list of games! I really liked the metal slug lookalike game 😊
FINALLY someone mentioning Dungeon Magic/Light Bringer. This was my favorite game in the Arcade days (Well, my second favorite. My absolute love will always be War: Final Assault)

Glad to see Edward Randy getting some recognition.
I love how Jimmy describes game mechanics and why we should check them out - very great descriptions!
Nice subject. Arcades have a rich history with massive amounts of games that most of us haven't even heard of. I've got to try these!
S.T.U.N. Runner was so awesome in the arcades. Took me years to remember the title.
man, you're my favourite youtuber, Metal Jesus. if I ever move to Seattle, I seriously wanna game with you.
My Xbox one has been collecting dust ever since I found MAME. It's awesome.
I would honestly play every one of those games! They all look like so much fun!!! Thanks for the video guys! Also Jimmy has a great channel, I'm glad I'm subscribed to him!
"mystic warrios" is a great game .
"Wild West Cow Boys of Moo Mesa" is just a "sunset raiders" with cartoon charchters .
Wild west cowboys of Moo Mesa is one of my all time favorites.
I played Wild West Cow Boys of Moo Mesa as a kid but never knew the name. Watching this I had that game in mind, great to see it on the list and to putting a name to the game to my memories

that car in the cliff hanger makes me think it's a sequel to cliff hanger the lupin the 3rd lazerdisk game weather or not officially or not
Ninja Baseball Bat Man was a hit arcade game in my part of Canada because whenever i went to the arcade people were always on it making it hard to play at times.

I used to play Elevator Action Returns all the time at the local CC's Pizza. It's one of my favorites.
@metalJesusRocks Wow guys huge props for adding (wild west cowboy of moo mesa)
There are a lot of new games that I have to try; thanks for this! I'm a big fan of Mystic Warriors, but for me, no Arcade game is better than Trog. If you want to play Demon Front i recommend Final Burn Alpha, is the best emulator to play IGS and NEO-GEO games.
Hidden gem suggestion,I played this really old school game called Galaga. It was pretty fun, more people definitely need to play it. Awesome retro sounds
Whats that? my favorite hidden gem is called "pac-man" most people haven't heard about it but it's a pretty unique game.
Love Ninja Baseball Batman and Cowboys from Moo Mesa! Those are some really great arcade games nobody knows about.
I'd really love to see more of these MAME/Arcade "hidden gems" videos. Given that there's literally thousands of arcade games, many of which never received home console ports, I feel there is an untapped goldmine of hidden gems to be found.
I agree, you can spend countless hours searching through the MAME and finding amazing unknown games.
Ninja Baseball Batman can be found in Portland, OR at QuarterWorld on SE Hawthorne BTW.
I played an actual Ninja Baseball Batman cabinet at Izzy's Pizza in Kent WA. When I learned how rare it was, I felt like an arcade ninja.
Thank you so much for putting the names in the description! Now I can just watch your video without taking notes! I would love to see the number of players each game supports thrown in somewhere.
Thanks for these recommendations! Can’t believe I never stumbled on to Mystic Warrior - awesome soundtrack and game!
I'm proud to say that I played 7 out of those 10 games in my childhood
Oh shit, Mystic Warriors and Elevator Action Returns. Played those on my channel not too long ago. Fantastic titles.
Data Easts "Gate of Doom" is another good one
my favorite hidden gem game (at least here in the U.S.) would definitly be Namco's Legend of Valkyrie. Imagine The Legend of Zelda the arcade game, brought to you by Namco, and it's a 2-player adventure. It's every bit as amazing as it sounds
TheMindMaster6 yes, excellent. Not sure if released in US.
Only released in Japan.. English versions were only ported to consoles -> en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valkyrie_no_Densetsu
Light Bringer reminds me a lot of Knight's of the Round. Loved that beat 'em up.
Ninja baseball is a must for any collector, that was kens sharempa uppercut move in zero 2
Lightbringer was known as Dungeon Magic in the US, and Elevator Action returns was simply called Elevator Action II
Wow, I remember Cliffhanger! It was the only game I completed on a coin-op. I played it in co-op with my cousin. Good old times
Man, this just really makes me miss the old days of going to arcades.
I'm working on my arcade cabinet and I see this pop up in my notifications! What an awesome day!!
- - Outfoxies is 2 player manic bizarre mayhem. Some parallels with Cliffhanger : Edward Randy shown in this vid...
Elevator Action Returns is probably one of the BEST Arcade games ever imo
I actually covered Cowboys of Moo Mesa for the first time on my Twitch Channel a couple of months ago and I absolutely loved it. I popped so hard right now when I seen it was included on your guys list. Awesome!
I don't know if it's much of a hidden gem, but that Punisher beat'em up is really good. Not quite as obscure as that Moo Mesa game, but not quite as popular as stuff like the Simpsons beat'em up or the Turtles beat'em up
Dungeons and Dragons Chronicles of Mystara is one I used to play a lot back in the day... lots of fun!
Great video! I recently bought a MAME machine and I am curious to know how people challenge themselves with arcade games since you can just keep continuing. Do you just play through the game for fun? Limit youself to a certain number of continues (in total or per level)?
Awesome video! I still have a bunch of Moo Mesa action figures back at my parents house from when I was a kid, lol!
A game similar to "Magical Crystals" also worth checking out is Namco's "Marchen Maze".
Anyone else feel the way Lotsofgames talks feel so soothing?
Dungeons & Dragons shadows over mystera
Dungeons & Dragons Tower of Doom
these 2 are awesome beat em ups
Ninja Baseball Batman is the greatest game I would have never known about thank you.
This is the best video yet. Oh yeah the golden era of gaming 16 bit rules!
Very awesome selection of arcade games. Elevator Action Returns is awesome!
Nice one MJ, never heard of Light Bringer & Demon Front before, gonna have some fun with those.
when i was a kid my best friend's dad had a sinistar cabinet in his house and we would stay up all night completely frustrated. DAMN YOU SINISTAR! memories......
"Light Bringer" is the Japanese version name, it's "Dungeon Magic" for the US version.
Ninja baseball bat man had less then 50 cabs in the US and about 1200 cabs in Asia. I have one of the original US PCBs.
How can you not like this ... So much talent and glad to hear from the past ! Great content as usual . cheers !
And there I was writing the titles down before you mentioned that you put them in the description :) Also: I saw Sub Culture for PC in the background and just bought it again on ebay. Great game!
Elevator Action Returns is rad as shit! I've got it on Saturn
Jack Bessant ... love that game, it's pricey on Saturn, congrats
I remember seeing Elevator Action Returns in a movie theater lobby once and was also like, "Oh... they made another Elevator Action?" heh
I had it on the ps2,in a collection of Arcade games,it was my favourite of all of them
Zero Team looks hauntingly similar to Streets Of Rage series, or "Bare Knuckle" in Japan.
First video in 1080p60 - cooool!
Awesome. I need a newer version of MAME - I don't have any of these games!
Not sure how I made it this far in life without knowing about a game where you ski & shoot bad guys at the same time - thanks for righting this wrong. :)
Great list, I love my mame system
Love Elevator Action Returns. Glad seeing it being mentioned.
Also, I LOVE Elevator Action Returns, it's an amazing game that almost nobody played, I discovered on MAME a few years ago
I know there were billions of arcade games, but it hurts my heart to hear Outfoxies overlooked again on youtube.
