  • The purpose of the video is to pay homage to arcades. The history of video games began there, so this video has a very high educational and video game preservation value.
In this TOP are the best ARCADE of all time? It is not my intention, because that goes for tastes or experiences, but they are the most successful ARCADE, collecting lots of coins. The most common ARCADE in an arcade and that you have surely played lots of times. A very difficult TOP to do for mixing "Golden age of arcade video games" with the 90's.

Shit, 5 bucks would make me happy right now as a grown man if I’m at the right pub where they post arcade games on the wall for nostalgia’s sake! That’s something I don’t take for granted or overlook because in today’s climate, we can use a boost or something that makes us feel good. Give me a dollar and point me to the wwf wrestlefest machine and life doesn’t get much better than that I tell you!

@@SiliconBong true bro, we were pretty poor back then, and a 20 was all we could afford. Some of us used to just stand around watching others play. Remember all those dudes crowding around Street Fighter 2? Going back to the 80s though, it was all over when they put the price up to 40 cents -- and now a game costs $2!

Nothing tops that 80's era ! I know technology has evolved light years since then, but walking into an arcade back then was like going to a concert, with all the bells and whistles , different pinball machines ,the food, neon lights in the dark! It was a great place to hang and meet people too! We would always hope and anticipate our favorite games coming out on whatever console we had! Going to the Mall or Bowling alley, and amusement park back then was absolutely some of the best times ! 😌

It was really expensive! I used to spend $10 on a Saturday morning in no time at all, that was in 1981. That $10 is worth today $36, about 7% the price of a gaming system. I can't imagine spending $36 in an arcade today, but spend $500 on a PS5 today and you can play 24/7 for years if you want. The arcades made lots of money back in the day.

Used to love sitting down at the old Pac Man cocktail tables where you'd be looking down at the screen from a seat, so much fun. Remember when Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter II hit the scene, it took over the arcade almost overnight. Everybody wanted to be the best fighter in the mall!

The 80s will always be my go-to era for arcade video games, even though I was 20 in 1982 :) In addition to these classics, I can remember Moon Patrol, Sinistar (RUN, COWARD!), Gyruss, Jungle Hunt/Jungle King, Satan's Hollow, Virtua Fighter (1993) and so many others....I can still remember the crowded arcades, with the loud music, greasy smell of the food, cigarette smoke (many older arcade games will still have burn marks where people parked their cigarette to play), things sorely missed when playing these classics at home.

From 1972’s PONG , up to 1983’s STAR WARS , I can say that I played most of all arcade games that came to Sweden. From there on , it was ”now & then”. I clearly remember Street fighter , Ridge racer , Mortal combat , Out run & Tekken.
There was 3 arcades in my town. The smaller one was my favourite. The owner was huge , kept order and always had the 5-10 newest games , 10-15 of the most moneymaking ones , BUT , in the back corner he kept 10 of the classics : Pong , Tank 2 , Night driver , Sprint 2 , Asteroids , Galaxian , Defender , Missile command & Pac-man all the years of that arcades existens (-75 to 93/94). They had a perfect fit between his counter and the door to the restroom and he were never seen playing anything else but them. Also ; there were always 5-10 of the latest pinball machines , exchange machine , cigarette machine and a soda vending machine. He used to manage a bingo-hall but opened this in his mid 40’s and sold it when he retired. Today it’s a fancy café , but I could replicate it to perfection , given the correct interior and machines.

I can definitely see a reverence for the classics in this list. I think I've grown more critical with age for arcade games. If they became grindy or frustrating, I'm less likely to hold on, but ones with good stories that have a beginning, cut-scenes, and and end I favour more. The look and feel of walking into a dark arcade with electrifying lights and sounds all around is an indescribable, breathtaking experience.

I'm less fussy when it comes to story and cut scenes, my main thing is playability. I still prefer games that with skill you can play for ages, rather than ones designed to kill you no matter how good you are, and you need to feed quarter after quarter into it to continue.

Same age, and I can say I played all these games. I eventually worked at an arcade for 5 years in the early 90s during the Street Fighter 2 revolution (this cabinet was really the renaissance of the video game arcade that placed arcades as the central hangout at any mall). Games in the early 80s cost a quarter per credit (25 cents USD) and have been all throughout until the late 80s and early 90s when cabinets became more complex and sophisticated (Outrun, Afterburner, any gun game).

    Good times right there! 😎
    Dear 80's ~
Wow.. this arcade list has some serious nostalgia sensory overload! Remember being an 80's kid going to the arcade with family and friends. First games played were Pac-Man and Galaga. Followed by Bad Dudes at the local pizza joint. Than when Double Dragon I and II came along.. that solidified the Beat-Em Ups! The Simpsons, TMNT, The Avengers and X-Men where the 4 player kid party games of the late 80's.
    Hello 90's ~
When Street Fighter II came out it was bye-bye Beat-Em-Ups. Capcom and Snk (Neo-Geo) seemed to take over with many games. Then Mortal Kombat comes out, everyone was in shock and awe when they caught glimpse at the blood and fatalities. Killer Instinct probably had one of the most impressive arcade attracts of the time. Time Killers, though not a great game was always remembered by my cousin and I for the creepy voice announcer and intense sound effects. Than the birth of polygonal 3d fighters comes about, Virtua Fighter I and II, Tekken, as well as Soul Edge. Virtua Fighter II became the main attraction at the mall arcade with a huge screen and a sit down arcade station. Motocross and Cruis'n USA were pretty damn fun and who didn't love the bikini chick in Cruis'n 👀.
    The Memories ~
Arcades from back in the days were a special time that you could never really replicate nowadays. Remember watching older guys tear it up in competitive games and placing their quarters on the arcade dash to signify "I'm up next!". My buddies older brothers showing us how to cheat on Skee-Ball to get maximum tickets at Bonkers to get mini squishy troll toys 😂. Luckily having that cool aunt that was heavily into video games bringing you out on weekend arcade excursions and having all the good nes games at Grandma's house. An lastly, the fond memory of how mum would ask if you want to go to the arcade at the mall so she can abandon you for 2-3 hours with a giant cup of quarters.. while she goes shopping 🤣. "Ah the good ol' days!"

The game might have been pretty basic in that the moves were all fixed, but that game absolutely mind fried arcaders when it came out in 1983. No game had more "quarters up" than that game. People would stand around and watch the game play for hours. You can't have a greatest hits list without that game. But, this was a great video. Thanks.
