@@andrewbradley3305 First of all, Mahomes is definitely not the best ever, just look at some simple stats. @@NJ-wb1cz I'll keep it short. Way i see it is every player who went there knew how it would work and understood that things could very well end up in a tiebreak especially at this high a level. If both of them decide they don't want to follow the rules anymore then either carry on tomorrow, find a way to discriminate or remove them both
While I feel rather uneasy about this turn of events, joint first place is something that has been implemented in many other sports, just not in chess. Either FIDE comes up with better tie breaks (ie. Throw down with Armageddon), or have a better pairing system.
According to the FIDE Laws of Chess, rule 11.5, it is forbidden to distract or annoy the opponent in any manner whatsoever. This includes unreasonable claims, unreasonable offers of a draw, or the introduction of a source of noise into the playing area.

Well, split titles have always existed occasionally in many sports, the only new thing is that the possibility for this has been created during the ongoing competition. On the one hand, this is somewhat surprising for a war game, but on the other hand it is a sign that even great egos can put their ego aside. And it's in the style of the “new age”, in which viewers' attention spans can be accommodated in TikTok format anyway. In this respect, it's neither good nor bad - we'll see what's made of it. This unfinished tournament failed to produce a champion because the finalists agreed to DRAW the tournament. Actually, we don't have two champions, we only have two finalists. @@yellowphoenix9803 So now there are two best players who are tied. The concept of a tie is not new or complicated.

My husband races at Laguna Seca and thinks this is hilarious. He wants to know how long before Baseball, Football, Soccer and other sports requiring both physical and mental stamina, start to implement what will certainly be crowned as the "Magnus-FIDE Rule of Competition," (A.K.A. "I'm a star, so pay attention to me").
As far as I'm concerned, the real reason FIDE wanted to maintain the dress code was to maintain the appearance of being a class act.
Embarrassing for chess lol. How are people supposed to take it seriously when the two guys in a final can just say, "Let's give up and call it a day because we are both afraid of losing. Instead, we are both winners!"

Not a big fan of the "there can be only one" talk. You can draw a single game, so why not a tournament?
if the tie breaker is playing till one of us won and i know the opponent can hold me draw for like a long time
yeah i think i consider sharing title
But you don't know that and you can't know that. Especially in fast time controls. Plenty of errors creeping in.
@@chulavista5239 maybe they were just tired and didn't want to do it. It's a holiday after all. Or maybe they'd feel cheesy winning that way and felt they both deserved it. Or didn't want to risk loosing.
@@chulavista5239 so what value is that to chess if it's just playing repeatedly until something random happens? What skill are they using to compete here?
Shared title accurately represents reality, and trying to squeeze a single result out of it is just our need to have closure which has nothing to do with chess
@@NJ-wb1cz I'll keep it short. Apparently you believe that in the the first 4 games, those results were meaningful, but after seeing 3 consecutive draws, that convinces you that any future wins would be random. Makes no sense and I wonder how you concluded that you know at what point random kicks in, and meaningful fades away.
@@chulavista5239 maybe bring back armageddon time control, better than today tie break.
Totally agree with Garry
Way i see it is every player who went there knew how it would work and understood that things could very well end up in a tiebreak especially at this high a level. If both of them decide they don't want to follow the rules anymore then either carry on tomorrow, find a way to discriminate or remove them both
Love how Kasparov calls the first tiebreak 'pants' lol
hans being hans
While I feel rather uneasy about this turn of events, joint first place is something that has been implemented in many other sports, just not in chess.
Either FIDE comes up with better tie breaks (ie. Throw down with Armageddon), or have a better pairing system.
Happy for both Ian and Magnus. Both deserved to win and this was the best option.
L Take. True warriors fight till the end.
Except for the fact that it is a world CHAMPIONSHIP match. quitting at the finals is the most anticlimatic lame dull move possible

no they don't deserve it. there should only be 1 winner.
@ErykKrzeminski so this isn't about chess, then? You're angry because you feel they did not entertain you enough?

As far as Carlsen is concerned, however, I hope he comes to his senses as soon as possible: you always meet several times in life, even Carlsen and FIDE. And it remains to be seen whether the balance of power will remain the same forever, even if he no longer plays at his level.

"Women has more energy"
Ju and Lei played 1 less games than Magnus and Nepo 😂
It's laughable eveytime they want to "improve" women's game with downplaying the men (open)'s one.
The only reason women tournament even exist is because they have 0.0001 chance to win in the open.
Lei played 6 games in her semifinal as well. I think she is the one who played the most games.
because it's nothing FIDE can do if Magnus and Ian decided they want to draw every game.
Imagine if that happen, let's say they play until 100 games, eventually FIDE itself will be the one who suggesting to sharing the 1st place.
And I think that's okay, even in the Olympics Tamberi and Barshim shared 1st place in high jump competition.
If you have to blame someone, it's FIDE, because they want that system instead of Armageddon and there's nothing they can do if Magnus and Ian agreed to draw every game.
They could easily prohibit draws in order to prevent this.
@@alekhidell7068 draws are the optimal outcome of chess games. How do you prohibit playing the best moves?

I'm waiting for the next World Cup so that Dubov doesn't oversleep it and shows his level.
Everyone: Wow

This unfinished tournament failed to produce a champion because the finalists agreed to DRAW the tournament. Actually, we don't have two champions, we only have two finalists. FIDE got scared and got lazy when all that was needed was to stick to its rules or maybe an Armageddon game. FIDE's goal is to produce a champion but it succumbed and, thus, failed in its main mission.

it pretty much looks to me that Hans N is upset...well he could have upset Magnus in the last game of quarter where he was in position to do so but did not capitalize of his pawns controlling the board so ....
It is very dangerous for any game when the player becomes bigger than the game
Why are players who didn't make it to the finals complaining? These two GMs made it to the final so they decided to share because of draws. If they want to share let them share. It's not like they did it on purpose or it was their premeditated idea.
