Apparently based on peak ratings, with @2:39 Li Chao ranked ahead of Gukesh D at the moment. OK. A problem with peak ratings such as done by Jeff Sonas on his site is that it's hard to compare players between eras since Elo is not an absolute scale like temperature but measures strength within a pool. So really hard to compare Elos across pools and different times unless you compare moves to 'perfect play' such as Stockfish on a very strong computer as has been done by some researchers (Capablanca, Carlsen and the usual suspects often are in the top 10).
This is based on fide rating, which is the current way used to measure a chess players strength. Philidor was around before there was an international rating system so he doesn’t feature here.

Even when Olympic champions change nationality their prior achieved are written under their previous country's name. 🇦🇲Aronian also won three Olympiads representing Armenia.
Levon Aronian is the 4th, it is very wonderful, even though he is currently playing under the US flag, nevertheless he is Armenian by nationality, as well as Garry Kasparov, who is half Armenian, half Jewish. I respect my nation and all nations, God bless everyone and will give us Peace 🕊️🕊️.
Actually the rating system in chess suffers of inflation over time, but there is another methods to mesuaring the players real power like engine acurracy over all the moves he has played
Guys, listen up. In Kasparov's time, there were no players with a 2800 rating. This means that when he beat someone with a much lower rating, he gained fewer points, so he had to win MANY MORE games to reach the level he did. He was like the Pelé of chess. For him to achieve the rating he did, he had to play MUCH MORE CHESS than others. Not to mention, during his era, there was no assistance from computers like we have today. His rating rose significantly because he was far better than everyone he faced. The rating has inflated since 2010 due to the emergence of several players with 2800 ratings. This doesn't mean that today's players are better than those from the past. It means there has been a rating inflation, which is why Carlsen reached such a high rating, and also because there are far more tournaments now than there were before. And let's not forget there are 3 games between Carlsen and Kasparov, with 2 wins for Kasparov and 1 draw. That said, I can say with certainty that at his peak, in his prime, Kasparov was the best player of all time.
@@NoorAzlan no he just went by elo without infaltion. If he considered inflation Karpov and Fisher would've both been way higher and multiple other players would've made the list
well not exactly true when kasparov started playing he didn't ahve elo inflation correction so when he beat a 2600 he actually gained a point or 2 if magnus does it at 2800 he is getting 0.2
Ridiculous. Anyone knows that there was an inflaction on ratings over XX century and, in special, in XXI century (due the popularization of chess). FIDE made, a few years ago, an study trying to estimate correctly the ratings, correcting by the inflaction. Fischer was the only player who beats 2900 and Kasparov was near 2900.

When you climb the Mortal Kombat tower...
The video title if fake. Philidor, the best chess master of all time, is not in the video. And many other players missing.
This is based on fide rating, which is the current way used to measure a chess players strength. Philidor was around before there was an international rating system so he doesn’t feature here.

It's just because Kasparov is Russian... Did you think that "county" want people from Russia on top of the list?

Carlsen was the third and Morphy the fourth.
that was pretty much bs.
