      To be fair, the interviewer felt that she's getting nervous and uncomfortable with more questions. While answering the last question she looked down, did not keep eye contact, and closed her lips tightly. Those are clear signals to stop asking questions and the interviewer correctly assessed the situation.

      Sudden death blitz is better tie breaks imo.
      Perhaps they should keep reducing the time controls with each successive sudden death blitz.
      Eventual sudden deaths in penalty shoot outs makes football tie breaks really hype

      @i_guess_i_need_anaccount8708You see at that point none of them were willing to take out of the box risk as one blunder means losing the championship. But both of them are super gm, the top of the chain. If they both continued to play solidly without taking that over the top risk they could draw 100 games if they wanted. So armageddon was super necessary.

      @@MatsMatsuo it's written in the rules, they should play until there is a win.
      So if they keep drawing, it continues. Their interest is in ending it because they will get more and more tired. If cannot last indefinitely.
      Because the format is blitz, not classical, and decisive games will come very quickly.
      It's the football equivalent of penalty shootout for tie breaks.
      So it's a good rule, FIDE could just not refuse the change with Carlsen because of what already happened.

      It is an acknowledgement by someone who has frankly been GIFTED an ability by God, drawing the line of fairness to a player playing as great as Nepo without this seemingly critical unfair advantage of simply being GIFTED. Acknowledgement of Nepo's genius as a player, drawing the line between that acknowledgement and visceral ego/selfish winning intent when he recognizes he has practically just been gifted a supernatural ability in chess, and there's a line where it just isn't fair to his fellow humans, who strive like absolute beasts to reach that level, so when someone plays as brilliantly as Nepo - it's right and just to acknowledge that brilliance and balance the scales of fairness. But then why would he chicken out after couple of loses and few draws? If you are really the best and significanly stronger than Ian then why not just beat him? it felt like he chickened out against Nepo and asked for the shared first (being too tired and too nervous cant be an excuse). I'm very happy about the shared 1st place. Only other solution would have been to pause the competition and try again later on when the competitors manged to rest up.

    To say let's share it because we are tired, cmon, that's absolutely ridiculous.
    Magnus for 15 years speezes games until the opponent gets tired and makes a mistake.
    That's absolutely what the Game is about and what gave him so many wins.
    No, this is a bs decision and he knows it.
    He ran away from the fear of losing and it's understandable.
    He ran away from possibly being no world champion any more after he had it already in the pocket.
    He clamped on his Last title and used his powers to make an absolute nonsense decision.
    This time, he hadn't the power anymore to tell the truth in the press conference but was trying to sell this ridiculous argument of being tired.
    Marathon runners are tired when they come in. Sometimes they can't even finish for exhaustion.
    These guys are nowhere near being so tired to not play another 10 games.

    • @mychannel11231
      @mychannel11231 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +9

      In Marathon, the finish line is clear. In this blitz tournament, since there is no Armageddon/sudden death, so basically there is no clear finish line. It is possible that both players can draw the games endlessly. Blame on the tournament format, not the players.

    • @fooooooooooooooo
      @fooooooooooooooo 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +10

      They were never going to play forever. It's a blitz game. There are 2-3 big swings per game. And Magnus almost flagged in the last 2 games. If they were tired they should have adjourned the competition and continued it tomorrow. But mental exhaustion is the reason they become champions. The very thing that decides 90% of chess games? What a joke.

    *2. They played 9 blitz games, and ended with the same points. Both are in perfect form. Continuing would just crown the winner purely by luck.*
    *3. The venue rent is PROBABLY coming to close (might be a reason why FIDE agreed)*
