This video is in no way hating on the original 80’s show, I simply intended to make light fun of the goofiness of it compared to today’s modern animation (I personally find it rather charming in its own way). You SHOULD be hating on it. We all should be becuase ALL audiences deserved better than this. Many people refuse to admit it but seriously... 80's cartoons friggin' sucked. They were all just test-market focus group toy selling, bottom feeding, lowest common denominator, pieces of uncreative dreck shoveled out through an assembly line process, making a mockery of the talents of the people that worked on it. And this isn't just me. Ask any of the people that made this shit, and they'll all tell you themselves. They have been saying this for years. That's why they couldn't WAIT to get away from places like Ruby-Spears, Filmation, 80's Hanna-Barbera and wait for executives to stop being afraid to let the industry evolve into a creative medium again, which it eventually did. The artists and animators rebelled, remember? They rebelled exactly against shit like this. That's not opinion, that's just animation history. It was the 90's Animation Renaissance and the same people that had to work on garbage shit like this, finally started working on creative things they wanted to do like Ren and Stimpy, Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, Batman The Animated Series, Rocko's Moden Life... all of the critically appluded shows that made animation an art form for creative expression again... and paved the way for the second era of progressive animation that now gives us Avatar, Gravity Falls, Adventure Time, Steven Universe, and yes... even the new She-Ra which is OBJECTIVELY better. I say this because if you asked the people if they enjoyed working at Filmation in the 80's and the majority of them will say NO. But if you asked the people working on NEW She-Ra if they enjoy working on it, they'd say a resounding YES. Because there's ACTUAL writing, ACTUAL characters, ACTUAL themes, ACTUAL story to be told and ACTUAL potential. 80's She-Ra had one potential.... get girls to buy toy spin-offs of He-Man toys from it's shitty cartoon by putting in as little work as possible. The 80's are regarded as the Dark Ages of Animation for a reason. And shit like this was why. It DESERVES to be hated.
It's amazing how much technology and animation has evolved over the years. I can only imagine how it would look in the future, and our kids will think our "modern" stuff is tacky.
I mean it's that in part, but shows these days just have significantly more budget to work with and the people on them are much more likely to actually take it seriously. Disneys adaptation of Snow White came out almost 50 years before this and had better animation regardless. Of course cultural references aren't going to age any better; that said, we also make fewer in many shows (or at least fewer that are meant to be the punch line of a joke; the reboot has a full on D&D episode but I'd wager that will still be comprehensible even if nobody plays tabletop rpgs in 40 years)
It is mostly a budget issue, studios didn't want to spend too much money on television stuff for kids. You look at stuff disney was able to make in the 1930s, they had technology than enabled them to make very fluid animation even back then.

There's no way to know that the sexual orientation is of most of these characters because it's not explicitly stated. You can say 80s She-Ra is straight but that's your assumption not something made clear by the text of the show. The default assumption that characters are straight into proven otherwise is just that, an assumption even if you are super invested in that assumption.

I personally like the originals art style better but I'll say it right here right now, that is completely biased. I like it because it reminds me of the animated Justice League TV shows artstyles. And that's just very nostalgic for me personally. It's a comfort you can say. However I completely understand why and how others like the new one better, and that's perfectly alright.

A lot of the villains from the OG show became so different in the reboot. Scorpia went from a basic brute to an apologetic tough girl. Catra went from angry villainess to a complex yet hilarious romantic lead. Entrapa went from a generic smart villain to a quirky goofball scientist. Hordak went from your average conniving villain to a villian that transitioned to a hero. Shadow Weaver.... honestly didn't change much, other than their change to Adoras side that lead to her sacrifice.
I love both animations: Today's reboot was goofy in some part, And usually very epic and awesome The 80's version was adorable and had the old cartooney style of goofiness, And I find it amazing in it's own way Both of these are works of art I find great, Each in their own way of presenting it :D
