I love how Ed looks like he’s out on a surveillance operation, Ava looks like she’s about to hit the disco and Oli has major 36 hour N64 session in the 90s vibes
I do love that when Ava asserts her self-confidence she tends to start sounding like a Boosh character: "You should see these eyes. They see everything"
long time listener first time caller but the conversation about the podcast being like chatting about politics with friends in the pub is exactly why i listen! it feels v different to other politics channels e.g. novara where the news is described to you as though you don't know about it, and what i appreciate about p*bcast is feeling like i'm in the loop and just hearing pals chat about it instead. love the show and all of you
A bottle of red to the wind but a brilliant demonstration of ambitious, respectful of each other journalists whom want to create original content while also educating us all on politics of the day. As a previously avid talk radio listener, thanks for providing a way for me to consume what is always quite a grim UK political review in a way that is contains honest humour and relatable commentary and mindless escapism which removes me from the stark reality that if some right wing political party becomes the governing power in the UK, we're all going to need a boat to get the hell out of here. I wish you all a great Christmas.
I'm an American and mostly listened to LBC when i first started paying attention to uk politics. Was such a relief to find Politics Joe! Still listen to James O'Brien and Sangita Myska but like you said, sometimes you need to have a layer of, idk the right term but i suppose humanness and of course humor. Plus Politics Joe tends to cover things in a way that others don't and they miss the bits of info that are helpful for when I'm trying to map out similarities and connections between the conservatives and far right in both our countries. Cheers and happy holidays from the States 🇺🇸💙🇬🇧
Hahaha, the cut at 2:25 to 'back to the ultimate format 2 boys and a girl' only to reveal Ollie and Ava subbed out cracked me up so much. Great podcast guys
I’m 73 I’m off to Portugal for 3 months next Wednesday, I really enjoy the podcast and your natural, take another three assembly like Emily Matlis who I adore and the younger guy who was also on News-night, brilliant and two different approaches
I've been heavily catching up on poljoe after being too busy last month and just watched this glorious mess of an episode over a 3 day stint. For sure my favourite podcast, some complain about the tangents you go down but that's why I love it. It really does capture that "mates at the pub" vibe that Ava talked about. Congrats on 100+ episodes gang Also Oli, nice Mitchell & Webb reference right at the end there, 10/10
This is by far the best politics discussion programme in the UK. Its refreshing to see proper conversations where opinions are intelligently discussed rather than all the adversarial bollocks.
Peak JOE content. Insightful, profound and, above all else, hilariously chaotic. Oli, Ed and Ava may be the three people who've made me laugh more than anybody else. Thank you all for for the gift of the Pubcast (fuck the trademarks, become ungovernable), and here's to another hundred!
Honestly, I love the podcast, but Laura is brilliant. The points she brings up are brilliant, and she also references "Who Cooked Adam Smith's Dinner?: A Story About Women and Economics", a fascinating and eye-opening text as part of my degree in econ. Keep doing a great job, and give Laura a pay rise!!
I really like the point made by Ollie around 1:51:00 - about being able to empathise with the two sides of not just political debate but any debate. Although it can be infuriating when someone has a completely different point of view to yours, you can understand they are presenting their side with as much conviction in their own minds as you are. If you can understand that, then you can listen to what theyre saying (to a point obviously) theres never going to be a utopian world where everyone agrees and its black and white, but it would be a lot better and more agreeable if people were just able to LISTEN. Also the end section of this was pure glorious chaos 😊
Really enjoyed the Sean and Laura segment with Ed chairing. Possible alternative line up going forward. Enjoyed the bulk of the podcasts since inception however as much as may disagree at times
I think that the Dugdaddy's take on reparations is quite one-dimensional. Both Slavery and colonisation were extractive by nature. Reparations is not a case of guilt, it's a case of the benefits that we in the UK especially enjoy because of the extractive nature of slavery. The UK economy was built from slavery/colonisation, the wealth created and resources extracted fueled the industrial revolution which has made us a prosperous nation today with high living standards. The now-liberated countries were in turn heavily exploited and underdeveloped, making them poor countries today with low living standards. We in the UK all benefit from this to some extent (even relatives of slaves who live in the UK today), regardless of whether our bloodlines played a hand in it or not. We are rich BECAUSE they are poor, they are poor BECAUSE we are rich.
As a viewer who was joining in on the drinking, I can confirm this was an extremely enjoyable, entertaining, funny and quick 3.5 hours, well done. Obviously a bit late for the questions now, but one thing I've always wondered is whether the 3 of you socialise together outside of work? I go down to London quite regularly, and reckon if I seen the 3 of you together in a pub/club, it would totally freak me the fuck out (in a good way)!!!
Interestingly, I think I sort of agree with both Ed and Ava on the Jeremy Corbyn question near the end. It's super interesting to see Ava place a decent chunk of the blame for certain parts of his public image on the way his advisors/team pushed his image, and agree that he was done a disservice in how the project failed to dispel those ideas. That said, I agree with Ed that the left here cannot move forward while we're still fixed on the past. Especially with the state of Labour right now under Starmer, if we're going to rebuild influence and be able to push our ideas again, we need to be looking at how to rebuild the movement in a way that learns from the past. In terms of who is at the front of that, I don't know if anyone is a perfect equivalent (although I'm a big fan of Clive Lewis), but I also think that one of the key failings we need to work on is not tying it so much to one person. Because to a lot of people it was always CORBYNism, which meant that Corbyn's downfall as leader meant the movement went with him. Next time we need to build a movement more focused on ideas and not built on the person at the top, so if we lose again we can regroup much more effectively.
@@NJking Fair enough, but what we did is plant a flag on an individual, which is probably the most volatile thing in politics. That's my point; we can't make the movement reliant on one person like it kind of was with Corbyn.
Ava, is fantastic. Takes on the establishment, gives them what for esp on Talk TV. Eats the best flavour of snacks. Drinks, smokes, swears. The perfect partner in my opinion.
Congrats on 100!!! 🥳 For those upset about the PubCast: The clue is in the title, duh! 🤦♀️ Your serious side is good, love the vox pops, the PubCasts show your humour and we get an idea of your differing personal opinions. Ava's brief has been fulfilled! Thanks Ed for recognising your duty of care to Purse and Glove under Habeas Fishius 💚 Ava for your intellectual heft with your literary and critical reading theory references ❤️ Oli for your tenacity despite your very compromised state in asking about the 49 in-joke! 🥴 First at 3:19:45, until the fourth and final at 3:26:41! 💜 Love the explanation, hate nounces and to echo others: More Laura!!! 😅🤠💜
lol. I’d like to see this unedited. I’d pay for a patreon subscription to get a bonus episode, where it’s unedited. There’s so many bits where it’s just getting juicy and it badly cuts to something completely different.
Ollie and Ava, that was fuc#ing great 😂 Funny, not much politics but we can always rely on you guys to come up with a great podcast. These are so random, honestly, it works great guys. Love the way you kind of ignore the script. I've watched all your stuff right from the start when you asked for our opinions on them and I commented that it was great, so well done for sticking with it. Most of the time I'm painting so these are great in the background entertaining me while I work. Thanks for all your hard work in bringing all these political scumbags to account. Love Politics Joe's podcasts, hate Torys 😂😂😂
Im very happy for people to change my mind. It ain't that what I do not like, its when politicians hold no opinion and prepare for both based on which one will benefit them.
bowls are a problem because of the refraction of light through the glass, it freaks the lil guys out. also that tank will need to be replaced once those fish get larger cus its gonna be too small for them
I knew Ed was my favorite. The Friday night lights book is awesome. As an american football nerd its one of the best reads about my chosen stupid sport
FISH. For the length of the show those fish will be okay. But that tank is too small for how big those fish can get. They can last 10 years, the "Fishsician" really shouldn't have sold you those fish in that size tank. They'll be dead in a month.
On the cod latin fish law: i don’t remember the phease, but Pratchett’s “the truth” ends with mr. Slant citing as a precedent a caee where a man who drowned after being pushed into a river had no tort as he had pockets full of fish when pulled out, and had thus profited from the ordeal.
I think the issue with young people in Scotland listening to what Laura said is that the SNP are an even broader group politically than any other political party. We only had to listen to the divergence of views in the leadership contest. It only holds together in the desperation of many for Indy. It could easily shift back from the progressive way it is viewed to the more socially conservative way it operated in the 1980s and 90s. Back then the Presbyterian wing of the Scottish nationalists held sway. Nay pubs open on Sunday, etc.
All politicians have to grasp that when something isn’t working, it needs to take the things that are you keep, you tweak the others, instead of this ridiculous approach of swipe it all aside and start again, inventions and progress has proved that this is folly, building on ideas and practices is the way we move forward!
Sorry Ava, but the car's horn thing is living in London. In other cities you can go weeks of driving between hearing a horn. In towns it can be months. In fact, you are most likely to hear a car's horn if a taxi has arrived outside if you live in a town.
Hello mate, Ed here. Think I mentioned If I Were You, Yeah But Still and The Worst Idea of All Time as my favourite comedy podcasts and then Pig Iron as my favourite recent journalistic one. Thanks for listening!
I love how Ed looks like he’s out on a surveillance operation, Ava looks like she’s about to hit the disco and Oli has major 36 hour N64 session in the 90s vibes
petition for the goldfish to be called “love podcasts” and “hate nonces”
This might be the best 3 and a half hours of fish etiquette and Sisyphus references I have come across, 10/10 would recommend
I do love that when Ava asserts her self-confidence she tends to start sounding like a Boosh character: "You should see these eyes. They see everything"
"Don't touch me. Don't ever touch me" :)
Her humour is quite Booshy now you mention it
4 hours! So going by previous episodes we can expect a good twenty minutes of politics chat! 😉
😭😭
Tad optimistic there
LOL
😂😂
If that
I love that there is a point in the edit where they go from mostly sober to absolutely smashed
'let's start with the politics'...
'how many fish fingers could you get inside a glove'
"Let's start with the politics"
"I like things inside me"
"Fisting"
The episode ended in the most chaotic way imaginable 😂 It was perfect
long time listener first time caller but the conversation about the podcast being like chatting about politics with friends in the pub is exactly why i listen! it feels v different to other politics channels e.g. novara where the news is described to you as though you don't know about it, and what i appreciate about p*bcast is feeling like i'm in the loop and just hearing pals chat about it instead. love the show and all of you
Laura was great here, we need more of her!
Yeah bring it on the regular Laura segment!
That thumbnail indicates an adequate level of chaos. I feel as though The Butcher is drunkenly staring directly into my soul.
I'm only two minutes in, but I can already tell this is going to be nothing but chaos gremlins. Love it

I think there is room for a politics joe spin off with Ed rolling up at dogging sites in his raincoat to do spot interviews.
There's one on the Deddington Gated Road by River Swere
@@pastyman001 I am honestly unsure if I should be traumatised or laughing that my comment may become a dogging directory.
Hahaha, the cut at 2:25 to 'back to the ultimate format 2 boys and a girl' only to reveal Ollie and Ava subbed out cracked me up so much. Great podcast guys
Producer Laura's cameo was excellent.
That took me three days to get through, but my God that ending was worth every second.
I’m 73 I’m off to Portugal for 3 months next Wednesday, I really enjoy the podcast and your natural, take another three assembly like Emily Matlis who I adore and the younger guy who was also on News-night, brilliant and two different approaches
100th episode, congratulations 👊👊
Honestly. One of the greatest podcasts of all time!!!! Lovely start to this Christmas!
The way she is talking about her back doors getting blown open then goes on to talk about refugees done me 😂
I've been heavily catching up on poljoe after being too busy last month and just watched this glorious mess of an episode over a 3 day stint.

Love this episode! Such randomness, laughs and interesting content. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year all!
My favourite Christmas Ghosts, lol.🎅🎅🎅
Ed was on top form. He's like a nuclear sub of tipsy chats!
Thank you for this, this was bloody brilliant, keep up the good work everyone
I look forward to your podcasts every week, hope you have a good christmas and new year 🎉

You should have Laura on more often! Great addition
Thanks for all the laughs and occasional politics chat, this episode is a scream from start to finish!
When a female journalist has Boris Johnson's mobile number and he picks it up in the night, the mind quickly puts 2+2 together...
Honestly, I love the podcast, but Laura is brilliant. He tries to play it off but every so often Ed gets indignant when Ollie says something to him. Ollie knows how to rattle him!
Thought at the end Oli was going to be sick on himself. Splendid episode. Brew!
Congratulations on 100 episodes. You have become unmissable viewing for me!
I waited all week for this and I loved it. Should have been asleep two hours ago.
I really like the point made by Ollie around 1:51:00 - about being able to empathise with the two sides of not just political debate but any debate. Magna Carpa deserved a better reception ed
I laughed my head of at this . Olly pissed towards the end. Absolute legend !
What a finish. The whole thing was worth it for the last 3 mins
This is amazing! Fave podcast by far!!!
Brill. In a miserable world kick back and laugh!! Great show😂
Really enjoyed the Sean and Laura segment with Ed chairing. Possible alternative line up going forward. Enjoyed the bulk of the podcasts since inception however as much as may disagree at times
Unhinged. I love it!
"Who cooked Adam Smith's Dinner" is a phenomenal name for a book!
Ha. Underrated comment.
A squashie walk-off was the only fitting way this could end 👏🏻

We are rich BECAUSE they are poor, they are poor BECAUSE we are rich.
As a staunch (male) enjoyer of both fantasy and Victorian literature, I cannot decide if Ava has just confirmed or shattered my impression of her 😂
That was absolute politics Joe lunacy 😂😂😂
Ollie got ratted and I have so much respect for that. Absolute legend

Ed Campbell hates families, why would you keep him on your podcast?
The XL bully lobby knows no bounds
Obviously because he’s Alister Campbells son 👍🏼😂
Revisiting this months later just for a laugh. Ollie is so hammered 🤣 also adding laura to the usual trio might be the play here
Great show! Wanted to give a special mention for Laura who hit it out the park with her contributions - it was a really cool surprise :)
Why does Ed look like he's just popped out of the local fireplace, after rushing to make it in time from the Ministry of Magic...
Ava, is fantastic. Takes on the establishment, gives them what for esp on Talk TV. Eats the best flavour of snacks. Drinks, smokes, swears. The perfect partner in my opinion.

i had to switch from Listening to the Podcast, to watching, just to see this unhinged mayhem play out!
Oli made it essential viewing for the mime show near the end
I agree, Laura was great!
2:43:47 Ed’s love of Invincible is class, he does remind me of Donald though 😅
Waiting for an "Up" series episode to see what the fish have done with their lives.
Yeah I made the mistake of wearing headphones to listen, eating and drinking on mic went right through me 😂😂
Does the day end in Y ?

This was hilarious. I’ve said it before though and I’ll say it again, you need a Welsh person on your team 🏴
Oli, very well done w/ Johnny Walker. You inspired me to join you. Ava, ditto.
1:35:54 I know nothing about fish but won’t studio lights heat up the tank a lot?
Get hbomberguy on the pod!
that would be amazing
Here's to hundreds more!

Im really sorry but can anyone remember what the podcasts ed was recommending on the pod. I have forgotten and cant rememember where he mentioned them
Hello mate, Ed here. Think I mentioned If I Were You, Yeah But Still and The Worst Idea of All Time as my favourite comedy podcasts and then Pig Iron as my favourite recent journalistic one. Thanks for listening!
are we getting a 2024 rerun of this or what
Thought we may have pivoted to ASMRCast in that first 4 minutes 😂
